  1. At this point, I'd almost rather the Canucks fold and Vancouver be awarded a new NHL franchise than continue putting up with this.
  2. The WTA chairman is also threatening to pull the tour's Chinese events off their calendar. I hope they actually follow through with it. Even Novak Djokovic has expressed his support for the idea.
  3. This organization, from complaining about the media being too negative to muting out the crowd booing and whittling down the front office to a bunch of yes men, is a dictatorship.

Good thing the media is good at manufacturing controversies.

This behaviour by the Canucks organization isn't going down well.

  4. The remaining away matches for Canada are going to be a grind (Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador), but they've already drawn away against the US, Mexico, and Jamaica, so I have faith they can pull out a good result in at least a couple of those matches. Barring catastrophe, they should be able to at least finish fourth and qualify for the inter-confederation playoff, but I'd much rather they avoid that since they could end up facing the 5th place team from South American qualifying.
  5. I honestly don't really care anymore, and that's the most damning part. Even WD-coached teams couldn't make me stop caring outright.
  6. Harry Neale said it best: 'Our system of forechecking is to shoot the puck and leave it there.'
  7. I love hockey but hate hockey culture.

It's hockey culture that has perpetuated the existence of the old boys club that seems to control pretty much everything that happens in the NHL. It's why clearly incompetent people, from referees to management to coaches to NHL executives, continue to get jobs they aren't qualified to have. It's why people like Kyle Beach can be sexually abused without anyone doing anything about it for years, if ever. It's why players abuse drugs and suffer from the long-term effects of injuries in silence. Everything is about keeping the gang together, hiring your buddies, gatekeeping anyone who tries to bring 'outsider' ideas into the mix, and most importantly, not 'rocking the boat' by calling out the status quo.

Hockey the sport is great and deserves better people in charge. Enough of the nepotistic, toxic old boys club and old school mentality that's clearly putting a stain on the sport's reputation and holding it back.

are the nfl/nba/mlb any better though? but anyway, these are multi-million dollar businesses, they don't give a &^@# about these issues as long as they bring in big money. don't look to these guys if you want a role model for yourself or your kids. most of them work really hard to get here, but they also do drugs and let's be honest, not many of them have that true character. sure, they can put on the nice guy act for a 5 minute interview, but that's the least you can do if you're played millions.

there are some truly good exemplary guys in there as well, but you can't expect all of them to be that. that's never going to happen. nhl knows that, that's why they are so busy keeping up the image at least. sweeping things under a rug, not rocking the boat etc. think of kane's rape allegations, other kane's betting/gambling problem, the virtanen business. some of these allegations has been proven false in the end, but still, there's always a lot of drama around these players. and that's what has been revealed; god knows what else is under the surface.

perhaps i'm the one who's too cynical, but imo what you want is never going to happen. saying let's clean up the nhl is as ridiculous as saying let's clean up society. we can - and we should - do our best, but it's never going to be perfect. so while i get where you're coming from (very passionate and empathic place), we should demand a 100%, but we should never expect the perfect (100%) result. it just sucks for the nhl players that they are under this magnifying glass all the time.

just be sure that you are a true role model for kids around you, that's the only thing you can control anyway.

I don't think you're being unreasonable when you say it won't ever be 100% perfect, because nothing ever is. I still think it's worth making an effort to improve the culture of hockey because it frankly isn't good enough right now.

Kids growing up wanting to play hockey shouldn't have to worry about being hazed and abused, we can at least do better there.

  8. I'm honestly fine with this. The current managment and coaching staff aren't taking this team anywhere. Lose enough games so that all of them have to go.
  9. I don't wanna hear a goddamn word from any player, coach, or management about how unacceptable this was. You said the loss to Buffalo was unacceptable. Your actions speak much louder than your words at this point.
  10. In all fairness, socks are far less likely to cause you emotional angst than the Canucks.
  11. This organization is run by smooth brains with old school mindsets, it's no wonder this team is built so generically and plays such a generic style of hockey. I don't see that changing unless the entire leadership group from the management to coaching is seriously overhauled.
  12. If Toews is still wondering why his good buddy Stan Bowman is out of a job, he needs to listen to this and find out. Because of his good buddy's refusal to report Aldrich to the police (along with many others in the Blackhawks organization), another person was raped and had their life irreversably damaged. I hope reporters directly grill him about it until he's forced to respond.
  13. Damn good thing the Whitecaps held on at the end, because that RSL goal otherwise would have knocked them out of the playoffs. Incidentally, SKC will be their playoff oppontent now.
  14. I feel like Mazepin's arrival helped reset the way people view Stroll (and Latifi, for that matter). They were able to see what a real pay driver looks like. I honestly don't know if Stroll will ever be good enough to be a WDC, but he has enough talent to hopefully win a race or two somewhere down the line. I'm skeptical that Gasly will ever get back to RB given that they don't seem to be on the best of terms right now, but he deserves a chance to show what he can do with a better car. Next year's reg changes could shake up the grid order, so maybe that chance will come somewhere else.
  15. Lance Stroll (don't asky why lmao, I guess I just want to see a Canadian driver do well). I'm really enjoying this title fight as a neutral, best we've had since 2016 IMO. That being said, the online discussion around it has been so toxic, imagine if social media was a thing during the Senna/Prost years. Think Verstappen should still feel good about his chances in the race. Rundown to T1 here is always a free-for-all and Hamilton will be starting on the dirty side of the track. Anything can happen, though, and that's always exciting.
  16. Tsunoda off. Perez off behind him. Verstappen has to back off behind them. Mercedes 1-2 Max: 'What a dumb idiot'. Just like we all predicted after FP3, right?
  17. Honestly hard to argue at this point. Would like them to prove us wrong but they aren't exactly doing a great job of that so far this season. They always seem to stress excellence through hard work but they need a lot more than that to be a good team.
  18. Honestly, that's the thing that gets me. The team will probably be just mediocre enough to justify keeping the coaching staff around while they throw out a bunch of excuses about why things didn't work out. They're never going to take the next step as a team with this mentality.
  19. I switched over to the Whitecaps game when the third period started and of course they scored twice. I'll stay there to help out the boys.
  20. The thing that really gets me is why the team's strategies seem to be so risk-aversive. The PK has the forwards stacking up, one up high and one in the slot, because they don't want to give up the middle of the ice, but instead end up letting the other team set up from the faceoff circles at will. The defencemen frequently back up way into the defensive zone when the other team carries the puck over the blue line presumably because they don't want to give up odd-man rushes. They dump and chase a ton and often don't attack the opposing blue line with enough puck support. Hell, they've even seemingly dialed back their forecheck. Obviously too much aggressiveness leads to more scoring chances against, but there has to be a balance.
  21. According to Natural Stat Trick, the Canucks are dead last in expected goals %, third last in scoring chance %, and dead last in high danger scoring chance % at 5 on 5. This is as united as I've seen the Canucks fan base in wanting a coaching change since WD's last season, but what are the odds anything will actually change? The ones in control of this team will attribute it to bad luck or a lack of practice time, but how long can they wait before they completely lose touch of the playoff picture? They don't have forever to round into form.
  22. We need a 'Keith's a liar' chant tomorrow night.
