  1. Waiting for the day someone calls Binnington on his bluff and actually fights him.
  2. Many people here have been around for more than one tank, so I'm surprised that people still get stressed out about it. It happens every year, the Canucks drop a few positions in the lottery, people freak out about missing out on talent, then a few years later some of those lower 1st round draft picks end up being better than some of the higher ones. The draft has always been a crapshoot. I get not being happy about worsening their draft position, but do we really need to be this angry?
  3. First round of the playoffs is always the best in terms of quality of play, IMO. Teams are relatively fresh and full of adrenaline, whereas the wear and tear really starts to show in the later rounds.
  4. Wouldn't be surprised to see a full line brawl at some point in the series the way it's going so far.
  5. Without getting too much into the complex politics of the current management/ownership dynamic, I think the current state of the team hammers home the point that acquiring young talent is a distinct process from building a truly competitive team around that talent. JB and company have done a good job at the first thing, but haven't demonstrated quite yet that they're capable of doing the second. Again without getting too much into detail, the current team is not good enough at consistenly carrying the play, often relying far too much on their goaltending to bail them out. There are good enough core pieces to build around, I just have doubts about whether the current management team is the one that can make the next step with this group of players.
  6. Arguably the team's biggest issue is its inability to prevent shot attempts against and the proposed solution is to bring someone in who is notoriously bad at playing defence? That's like plugging a hole in your rowboat by buying another oar. Not to mention the other off-ice stuff that's been discussed ad-nauseum in the thread. They already have Hughes and Rathbone as relatively undersized PMDs, I'd rather focus on bringing in more well-rounded defencemen to complement them instead.

  8. IIRC, the Canucks refused interviews with CBC the week after that segment aired: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/canucks-hnic-to-meet-over-criticisms-1.869089
  9. My only hope is that people can show some restraint and not jump to broad conclusions about either the accused or the accuser until more information is made available and the case plays out.
  10. Vlad only needs a 3-run homer to complete the home run cycle.
  11. In between two Leafs losses to the Canucks, the Super League was announced, almost universally condemned, and then suspended. Hilarious.
  12. It will never happen, but I'd laugh if the Canucks decided to protest by literally laying down on the ice the entire game. The game is technically played and no one gets hurt so everyone wins.
  13. I don't know if this is worse than losing 18 straight games, but it's certainly making me wonder.
  14. Probably the ugliest match she's played all week but she found a way to win as she always seems to do. Been waiting a while for her to play Barty. Should be a good final.
  15. It's been such a long time since I've had the chance to watch Bianca play that I nearly forgot how much she can do on the court. Definitely glad to have her back, never mind that she's somehow finding a way to grind through all these tough matches.
  16. A 6-1 win at that. If not for the Sabres, more people would be talking about how awful the Flyers have been in March.
  17. Can't stand the Flames even at the best of times but somehow this is the least likeable version of the team I've ever seen, to be honest. They come off as a bunch of sore losers who can't even back up their antics with winning hockey.
  18. It's possible for two things to be true: 1. They were bad tonight partly because they were horribly injured down the middle and were playing their 5th game in 8 nights with travel in between 2. Even when healthy, this team's roster construction and playing style are fundamentally flawed. Item 1 should not get in the way of addressing item 2.
  19. I have never seen a team so afraid of losing in overtime as this version of the Habs. Got what they deserved, frankly.
  20. Tom Wilson lives rent-free in Jack Edwards' head.

watched the hit a few times.. not sure how this can't be 5+ games. Not sure how Cap's coach can call that a "hockey hit'? maybe in the 1940s.

Sounds like Wilson has been invited to an in person hearing.

yeah, the shoulder came up and he shifted left to go from hitting Carlo's body to squarely engage the head.  How he doesn't get suspended for awhile is beyond me.

  21. Nobody in the organization deserves a free pass. No one. When the collective product is this bad, every single person should be held accountable. The roster construction isn't good enough. Too many players who do the same thing, nothing that separates them from the league-average player. Forwards aren't exceptionally fast, big, strong, or skilled with the puck. Defence group as a whole isn't exceptionally mobile, skilled with the puck, good at holding the offensive or defensive blue line, or moving the puck out of the zone. Goaltending might be the only area that isn't a completely glaring weakness, even though I'd describe them at best as slightly above average as a tandem. The coaching isn't good enough to overcome the roster deficiencies. No ability to prevent zone entries, routinely get hemmed in their own zone for minutes at a time, default strategy seems to be to collapse to the slot and hope for the best. Instantly wilt whenever they face an aggressive forecheck. Way too reliant on rush offense and one-and-done chances, no consistent ability to sustain offensive zone pressure or generate second-chance opportunities. Completely static and predictable powerplay that can't gain the zone to save its life. There are useful pieces on this team that can be used to build a contender with the right moves. But the roster as it's built right now won't accomplish anything. Maybe management knew this the whole time. I just wish they had the balls to admit when they've come up short for once.
