  1. Drinking excellently all night; construction on the hardwood floor above me starts at 7am. That is the REAL terrorism.

  2. That's why he will be looking to surround himself with people who have much more experience than him. All Linden needs is a vision, and to hire the right people that he thinks can implement it. An off-topic analogy follows, but it is nonetheless relevant. Back when Schwarzenegger was first elected governor of California one of his new staffers came in with this big initiative that would help to ease part of the California energy problem/crisis. Arnold said he liked it to which the staffer replied "Well, it looks like you have a lot of work to do on this" Arnold calmly says " No, you do". The point is, I think that Linden can be very successful as President, provided that surrounds himself with very intelligent hockey people who are already intrenched in the management aspect.
  3. That would completely ruin the previously enjoyed 10 minutes of my day. Might as well have kept MG if Gilman gets promoted. No Gilman. No Naslund. No idea. I'm so excited for the offseason.
  4. Dude. I was having a mega shit day, and this video made me laugh and turn it all around at just the right time. Cheers!
  5. I don't think that we know ownership didn't "suggest" Torts be brought in to coach. Gillis may not have had a choice other than to resign over a choice of coach.
  6. Right in the same line of people who want Naslund as GM... Barf lands on barf. I'm okay with Gillis getting one more year, with salary cap space, to see if he can do something to redirect the ship. Torts style of hockey though I'm not too sure of as a fit for this team.
  7. I like this post very much. I may disagree with the occasional thing you write oldnews, but this surely isn't one of them.
  8. • Argo defensive back Matt Black spent the winter selling clothes at lululemon and then training to be a mutual fund salesman. • Linebacker Kevin Eiben runs a sports training facility while running back Jeff Johnson sells real estate. • Defensive lineman Adriano Belli works in the family meat business year-round when not knocking heads with guys on the other side of the line. • Punter Eddie Johnson splits his time working as a bartender in California and as a personal coach to a young kicking prospect. • Edmonton quarterback Jason Maas works in sales on the Alberta oil fields. • Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski puts his imposing size to use as a youth worker at a correctional facility. So does Ticat defensive back Sandy Beveridge, who also works during the season as a volunteer firefighter. http://www.thestar.com/sports/football/argos/2010/05/16/cflers_work_is_never_done.html
  9. I took last year off watching the CFL but will probably get back into it. It's just too hard to watch games when the weather turns nice. I'd rather be outside. I respect the CFL, but the games are more like watching NCAA. The NFL is the better game in my opinion.
  10. Agreed. Their only chance is Columbus who have 2 games in hand and who aren't the Leafs. Leafs should be the odd team out... except for Columbus having PHI, CHI, NYI, PHX, DAL, TBL and FLA in their future, whereas the Leafs have BOS, WPG, TBL, FLA, and OTT as their remaining schedule. Columbus 7 games vs the Leafs 5 but Columbus with the tougher road.
  11. Luciferase in PJ's = gorgeous. Gorgeous. Yes Luciferase, I 30 year old creeped this thread in your honour.
  12. Well you have me convinced then, it will be my next bottle of whisky. Do you find it dry? Or sweet like Ardbeg? I had been depleting my Bourbon collection rather evenly so I picked up a bottle of Eagles Rare 10, never a bad choice.
  13. I haven't had that one before. Peppery sounds interesting, a little spicy too like cracked pepper? edit: just read about it. I need a bottle of this to round out my peaty scotch collection. Plus I like whisky distilled near the ocean for the light saltiness it retains. Forty Creek is good Canadian Rye, no shame in it.
  14. Tickets sold out before I could pick any up, at least there will be a game next Saturday that I can go to! Hope this team wins at least one playoff round to build on last year.
  15. Isn't that the question with all trades? jk I can't imagine Jackson being stoked about potentially being traded to the one of the great franchises of Cleveland or Oakland. Woof. Aside from draft picks being worth much much more for obvious reasons, I am completely out to lunch on trade values in the NFL. Would Oakland have enough to trade for him as well as draft a few key pieces (like a whole new roster) in an attempt to stop being a sub 0.500 team again?
  16. Far too long? Really? When would you have advocated for his removal? 2011 offseason? The real problem with Gillis that I have right now is that I don't know how involved ownership is in "helping" him manage the team. It becomes difficult to lay blame on a GM if there is any meddling going on. Changing the GM won't change much if that is the case. Of course, there is always the idea that maybe he was asked not to make any big trades, other than Luongo, because he will be fired after the season should the Canucks not make the playoffs and the new GM will be given carte blanche to do as he sees fit. I'm on the fence about which one I want. The team isn't garbage by any stretch. Horrible injury luck, and bad years for all the top players led to this. Core gets another year older as well, which sounds rather silly as it doesn't just happen overnight, but there is significance to it. I want this team to be competitive for the long haul, which means asset management. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying people on this board are rather divisive on whether or not Gillis is good at that.
  17. Unlikely, yes. Going into the playoffs on a 12 game winning streak would be great timing.

  20. Riiight, but we can't do it for this year only is my understanding. Retain salary until playoffs, then next year full salary and cap to the Pens. Maybe I'm wrong. You're right, but also wrong. Even though we are dealing from a position of strength, if Pitts adds the picks and prospects we really covet but can't fit a player or 2 under the cap, then we don't acquire anything, better to take Sutter back and force some competition at next years training camp. Christ it isn't as if the guy is a plug.
  21. Your friends rock! I have not had the Old Grand Dad 114, or the Evan Williams but based on past conversations about the kinds of Bourbon you like I can guarantee that you will enjoy the rest. Especially Elmer. That is a beauty bourbon. 4 Roses Single Barrel is outstanding too. I'm getting excited on your behalf. If I weren't about to enjoy a robust porter I would have a bourbon... Hmm, nightcap maybe. I can't remember what distilleries I was contemplating, but I just could not bring myself to drop $125 on a bottle of 2 different bourbons I recently checked out. Elmer T. Lee is the most expensive one I have at around $80 and I don't see myself going much higher. North of 80 means I just buy a nice single malt. Had my first glass of Irish Tears on the weekend. Naturally, I can't comapare it to anything I typically drink (bourbon, single malt) but it was surprisingly tasty. It had some nice stuff going on and was moderately smooth considering it's an Irish blend. @triangulate Crack that sucker open brother! Just don't do it when you get home from the pub.
