  1. Seriously, a GM could NEVER get away with that. If he did, once, he would never get to make another deal with another team for a long time. Yeah these guys are running a business and trying to shrewdly build their franchise as craftily as possible, but their has to be an element of trust associated within these deals otherwise you get Burke and Lowe conversations every time anyone would ever pick up the phone. Not a road I want our GM taking.
  2. Frankly, I am surprised at some of the hatred Sutter has received over his necessary inclusion in this deal. Cap wise Pittsburgh has to send back something to make it work financially, and he wasn't/isn't ever going to be a cornerstone in the deal. Call him a bonus I say. Assets and picks will still arrive from the Pens in a deal is struck. Also, I have stated that Maata is the biggest piece of any deal I would like back from Shero if a deal was made, but having thought about it over a few pints, and reading other posters opinions, I am warming to the idea of Pouliot coming back because he really could be an example of what we truly lacked since Ehrhoff left. PMD with offensive upside. If he even brushed up against what Keith does for the Hawks on our team I would consider that outstanding. Yeah I know you did/do put thought into all of your posts, that wasn't to slight your post or opinion, it was just for funs. Basically I excitedly rushed that quip before going back 8 pages to catch up on what I missed while working today. It's too bad that the CBA didn't allow cap space to be retained, and not just salary. We could thereby retain 2 mil of Kes/Booth cap until the offseason when Pitts could have more time to get their house in order, and take their assets.
  3. Any picks they manage to acquire from other teams do not fall under their penalty for cap circumvention. Their 1st rounder is the only one that doesn't exist.
  4. I had completely forgotten about this, this could explain part of it, maybe.
  5. If they are mad about losing one of those 2 guys, that means the trade is close to fair value.
  6. Not sure why we would have to deride a player who we drafted and developed into a Selke player, that would serve no purpose. If the team gets busch league assets for Kesler it will be the biggest trade tragedy that the organization forces fans to swallow. I really don't think I'm exaggerating here either, and I don't think I'm exaggerating by saying some fans would not forgive the move. Most of us love Kesler, and know what he is worth to this team, and to other teams. Gillis is dealing from a position of strength. All GMs will try to low ball during negotiations, it's just tactics right? I agree with him needing to show fortitude. He need to pull out some big fortitude on this one and slap it around. I completely agree with your last comment as well. Any team he goes to immediately becomes a fave of mine.
  7. I'm glad that most fans agree on one thing, which is a rarity at times, the supposed offer is a bag of potatoes no matter how you try to disect it. Matta+ is the new price for trying to plug trade for Kesler. No ticky? No laundry.
  8. I have faith that Gillis isn't that stupid, or gullible. If Sutter is the centerpiece, I pick a new team until he is fired. That is how much of a rip off that would be.
  9. Over the past year Tallon has been adamant that Bjugstad and Hubeardeu were the ubtouchables surrounding any possible Luongo trade. I would be surprised if that did not carry over for Kesler. As that team has struggled this year, he has recently commented that the play of his 2 rookie centers, Bjugstad and Barkov, has been a bright spot for the club. I don't see us being able to pry their highly coveted center or top defensive prospect away, even if it is for Kesler. He does want to ship some veterans out, but has not started a firesale. I don't want to post the whole article here but here's a recent one about Florida. Also, I feel that you are undervaluing Edler by a significant amount by only wanting Simmonds in return. He is a top 4 dman on almost any team and that type of player is rarely available these days. I've said before that I'd like Simmonds here too, but he alone isn't enough for the Canucks to relinquish Edler.
  10. I don't buy it either, it's just typical of how the media and sports world (fans) reacts around trades. Even if Aquilini told Gillis his job is secure, you have to believe that if he messes this up his ass would be out.
  11. I thought it was 18th... Disappointed you changed your avatar. Also, if Shero wants to be shrewd, F 'em. Maata or no Kesler. Beat it Pens.
  12. Give me a break on that last part, but the rest is true. Pitts needs to put more on the table.
  13. Nobody will be whining about Lu not starting anyways, there will be something else to whine about by then.
  14. Frankly I'm shocked. Weeks and months ago the only reasons I would have attributed to Luongo not getting the start would have been injury, or if he was on the trading block again. MG could silently be trying to move him again, but this would be way too obvious. Pretty weak actions towards him, he deserves to play tomorrow.
  15. Yes the PP has been atrocious. We could still be winning games though if our top line was playing like a top line. Off topic though, I'm not wanting to start calling the Sedins out because they aren't the only ones having an off year. It was just a comment in response to a "what if" that Darius71 posed. Fair enough, I skimmed a lot of the pages as this thread loaded up pretty quicky, I missed any of those posts discussing more than Edler and Kesler. To answer your question: yes. I think if we don't get the perfect price for Kesler he won't be moved at the deadline, and if he is moved regardless, bust. Cue hate on for Gillis losing a great player the franchise developed for less than market value. If any of the reports are true mind you, and 20 teams have been phoning MG, several of them with serious intent who are Cup contenders, then the price isn't something we should be worried too much about. Hopefully Gillis knows how to manage a potential bidding war without becoming flustered and hasty over the next few days.
  16. We likely both know that if the twins were in the top 15 in points this season we would have 10+ wins than we do now, and would be looking in on Wednesday as buyers instead of a core shift.
  17. Worst comparison ever. Kesler has a high trade value right now. Agreed? He is very valuable to the Canucks team, yet after 2 and a 1/2 lackluster season something has to give. We aren't trading the twins, because we can't. So that's that. Next up? Kesler. We need to keep our young prospects so we can develop and deploy these guys into our roster over the next few seasons. Kesler gets us retooling, not rebuilding. Trading one player for up and coming talent does not equal a fire sale. Don't be ridiculous.
  18. Triple finally obviously, one of the greatester albums:
  19. Double finally, one of the greatest punk albums whether you like it or not.
  20. Finally, some nice easy midnight listening:
  21. Back with a vengeance with some decade old Irish punk rock.
