  1. I`m over her now. The power of single malt has shown me the way Word.
  2. Blues spam. Maybe you`ll see a GIF of me drinking whisky, nodding approvingly, and contemplating women that I`ve loved and lost. Likely not. Stupid keyboard. Here`s a question mark for you all to enjoy. É
  3. 10:30 mark for peeps who don't think blues musicians know how to slay!
  4. For anyone who has not seen him live, as usual, the live tracks do no justice. Twice now I've seen him play with just an acoustic guitar and his powerful voice. No mic. No plugged in. He's a blues beast, and Canadian to boot eh!
  5. Agreed, but it would help a team with a plethora of youngsters get immediate experience to pepper their lineup with.
  6. It isn't undervaluing if the 3 assets you get in return are dynamite. Remember legit hockey trades that used to happen? They happened for a reason. Who the hell wants to gamble on a first round pick if they can get something with more experience and more ready to deliver help to the current squad? The format you just listed doesn't guarantee the Canucks anything except several chances at winning the trade in the long run, when the goal is to remain or regain elite competitive status right now. edit: undervaluing is stupid though, I can't argue with that and I personally never suggested trading each just for the sake of doing so.
  7. As I said before, I love Kesler, on ice vision and passing were only fair qualities of his. Breakout speed and shots generated off of the rush dominated his Selke season no? Of course like any good player he will generate assists, ah god, now I'm just splitting hairs here. From the Philly standpoint I see them keeping Couturier over Schenn too for the reasons you listed. Who knows what Holmgren will ever do? Even Philly fans were WTF with Carter and Richards.
  8. I agree with that line. As long as we are speculating though, that looks more like a young 2nd line than a 3rd. Even if they lack experience, I would rather them not be labelled as the checking or shutdown line if at all possible. Then again, 2 and 3 are just numbers and really have no relevance once the game starts. A man can dream.
  9. It does seem fair, but I don't see Voracek playing into Torts system all that effectively like Simmonds would. Maybe I have him pegged wrong, I don't want to call him soft, but he is no Wayne. Voracek might slaughter with the Sedins though rendering that last point less meaningful. Although at 24 years old, I am wondering if he has a breakout year in the near future. There are never guarantees in getting maximum value via trades. Oh how I would love to tap the smart phone Gillis uses and listen in. If you figure the value is dead on, then isn't the return already maximized? I understand what you are saying, but do you think we can get a fair deal for one, and have someone overpay for the other?
  10. That would be a fantastic problem to have yes? I say let them duke it out for the center slot, winner take all. Loser, if you can call it that, moves to wing. No shame in that, and no shame in having 2 centers on one line. The way I see it there is room for both at this point.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. That's the impression I get too. Every team can't get everything they want in a trade all the time right? If Philly wants to improve from year to year, and of course they do, they need to keep their offensive potential. Kesler and Hansen >>>><<<< Simmonds and Couturier That looks roughly fair on paper. Nobody gets shafted. Nobody wins. A hockey trade. Replacing Couts with Schenn though...I haven't seen enough of Schenn last year and this to speak too much about him. One of my buds is a Philly fan and he loves Couturier, also, so do I from his days in the Q and brief AHL stint.
  12. A fine example of 3 trades that would be awful for the Canucks future. If Gillis does anything reminiscent of quantity over quality I will lose my sht.
  13. I'm coming in late to this thread because, well, because. I have been a huge fan of Kesler since he was drafted. The guy is such a beast, he plays so hard and really knows how to compete at the pro level on a daily basis. Putting aside his rough post Selke season and the terrible ensuing injury that forced him out of the next one, he has demonstrated that he belongs in this lineup without question. Without question. Having said all of that, as the franchise moves forward there definitely needs to be a bit of a shake up IF the team wants to remain competitive while the Sedins play out their contracts, something that I am confident Gillis assured them of when they signed. If Kesler can net 2 pieces, and I'll use MJDDawgs example for fun, that can hekp us out immediately, then Gillis would be silly not to do it. I would love to have Simmonds here, Couturier? Of course, he has a very nice upside that hopefully he reaches whether it is in Van or not. The point is the current lineup has been through a devastating season relating to injuries and just plain old snakebitten luck. If Gillis is really not going to be able to draft enough top talent to help the club out now, (#1 pick for example), he needs to make a move that gets ROSTER players back. For the record, I only want to see 1-2 players coming back for Kesler. 3 = too much diluted garbage that expands our already extensive battle for the bottom 6. This club needs top 6 battles for ice time to remain competitive. Keep the quality of the return high by taking back NHL ready talent and less than 3 players. Otherwise, forget it. Keep him. 2 last things quickly: 1 - Since Kesler plays hard crashing shot blocking hockey, and we all love him for that, there will be a time when injuries pile up more so then they already have. This is the time for Gillis to get a great return should he go that route. I'd be happy either way, just as long as we don't load up on 10-15 goal scores and role players as a result. 2 - Philly might really want Kesler, who's to say? But are the really going to want to part with Couturier as part of the package? He has a bright future on that club whether Kesler adds kryptonite or not. I think I would put the deal for he and Simmonds down as good for the Canucks, but is it really worth it for Philly? Any Philly fans here care to chime in? I already know what Nucks fans who might want Kesler moved would say.
  14. How was the celebration? Tasty? A lot of love for Irish Whiskey in here, I have recently resolved to deplete [joyously] my single malt and bourbon collection and replace it [temporarily?] with some Irish, er uh, you know, research. I did pick up a bottle of Forty Creek Cream for the Gold Medal game: just to change it up from Bailey's. It is a good product, and a fair bit cheaper than the big B, but it had a cocoa flavour I did not expect, or want, in my whiskey. Coffee solved all of that. Anyone who likes Carolines (which I find too sweet) or Baileys will probably dig it, and save a few bucks for that $200 bottle of single malt you always wanted to hold. In your arms. Like a woman. Like this woman. She looks like she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Cheers!
  15. Time reference, oldnews is poking fun at the historical "accuracy" of a Maclean rumour.
  16. Hahah, thanks! I definitely meant "tasting" . I have such a blast when a few friends come over and we just shoot the bull over a succession of whiskies. I guarantee you can find Redbreast 12 in a pub or restaurant somewhere. It isn't that obscure yet, I just can't pinpoint a location. I will try to keep my eyes open, but since you scooped one up already... I almost bought the Irish Tears, but picked up a schwack of new beer instead. Blasphemy talking about that malt beverage in a whisky thread. Comparing the Amber to the Mac 12 is impossible for me as I have never had the 12. That surprises a lot of people. I tend to not like a lot of the typical Highland single malts. I haven't had them all yet so all I can say is that it is hit and miss. Oban 14 is a nice exception. As is anything aged past 12 years. I suppose I find the young Highland malts too unrefined, and slightly boring. As with anything in life though, my palate has adapted and expanded greatly over the last few years so it is quite possible that I simply haven't learned how to appreciate the Highland for what it is. As long as I'm lightly trash talking the region, a shout out goes to Oban 14 (again), Glendronach 21, and Highland Park 18. I am so close to slapping down the bucks for the Glencairn glassware myself and have been on Amazon scoping out the prices for a few days. I would really like the Riedel whisky glasses, but at $40 bucks a piece they are one inevitable slip away form being multiple expensive pieces. These glasses are multi purpose for me. Stouts, Belgians, sour beers, as well as Scotch and Bourbon apply to this glass in my house. I just had to train myself where to put my nose as to not get a brain freeze full of booze. I too am going to try the Auch 12 this weekend. I enjoy crossing a whisky of of the "have tasted" list. Enjoy the whisky tasting!
  17. I'm pretty sure that the reason it won't happen is because owners, and the league, will invest millions just to receive less revenue in terms of seat sales. Raising ticket prices will not work in fringe markets with so-so attendance. At best they break even, but most business people would see it as a loss. I'm mixed on bigger ice. It might open it up to the skilled teams, but mediocre teams will still play shut down just the same as they do now. As an aside, I've really liked watching Duchene play with some other all stars in these games. That kid can skate like the breeze.
  18. Picked up my first bottle of Macallan Amber from the 1824 series. It's good if you like Highland Scotch, it tastes like Highland Park 12 year, only a touch smoother. I'd love to try the Sienna and Ruby, but that will have to wait. For anyone living on Vancouver Island there is the Cowichan Vally Whisk(e)y Festival in April. Over 50 whiskies as well as beers and food apparently. Held in Duncan. edit: my own whisky tasting today consisted of bottles from my private collection, some tastes were, *ahem, multiples Has anyone tried the Irish Tears yet? I almost bought a bottle last week just out of curiosity. I think I should still do it.
  19. 2004 Steelers 39 sacks 19 interceptions for 293 yards and 3 tds TDs allowed: 8 rsh 14 pass 3 Defensive Pro Bowlers 2013 Seahawks 43 sacks 28 interceptions for 385 yards and 3 tds TDs allowed: 4 rsh 16 pass 3 Defensive Pro Bowlers Say what you want about the punishing glory days of the AFC, I'll take the current and overall better numbers that the Seahawks displayed any day. Especially after making the Superbowl and putting on a legit clinic on how to make a team look like they didn't belong. http://www.pro-footb...ms/pit/2004.htm http://www.pro-footb...ms/sea/2013.htm edit: Damn it. Sorry, I just re read that you said 2 years ago, not 10. Away I go again. 2011 Steelers 35 sacks 11 int for 99 yards and 0 TDs TDs allowed: 7 rush 15 pass 3 Defensive Pro Bowlers http://www.pro-footb...ms/pit/2011.htm Also, who are these people you speak of who don't give AFC defences their credit? I'm no Steelers fan, but I am a pretty big Polamalu fan.
  20. Right on Ari! I feel this thread doesn't get enough attention and I enjoy reading everyone's opinion too! Not to mention my whisk(e)y passion means I like to share my own Regarding expensive bottles of whiskey, I primarily feel that you can never go wrong with an expensive single malt. Blends, like I mentioned earlier, I have yet to understand. Having said that Woodford 4 Wood is a blend and I loved it; it is just sooooo god damned good though. Not a bourbon anymore because of it being blended with whiskey not aged in fresh charred American oak, but bourbon flavour on steroids is what it has. I may just re read the 3 pages for nostalgic reasons. Tell me about the liquor laws being a nuisance. I wanted to buy myself this for Christmas: So disappointed to have not been able to get it shipped. I knew that already of course, that it couldn't be sent from Europe, but I figured I would have been able to find a local merchant carrying the same idea. Maybe I should concoct my own and market it this year! Whoops, I was just arrested. Thank God 12 isn't too much, it turned into 13 today. Only 1 is less than 1/2 full. edit: Overall I'd say that makes me an optimist.
  21. I never got into Irish Whiskey, but these look doable: I have never understood why people prefer blended whiskey. I feel like I should go to a blended whiskey tasting and try a bunch, but it seems ridiculous to spend $200 when I can get a fantastic single malt for that price. What are your reasons for choosing a blend? I want to understand, but will not be buying that bottle, or Johnny Blue, without a significant pay raise. Having said that my collection is getting pretty silly. 12 bottles I don't think is overdoing it is it?
