  1. Take it and run, dude, you'll be safer at home.
  2. As someone who is now doing full-time school from home via video conference lecture), I can attest that staring out the window, perusing the web and/or Googling the news, or simply standing up and walking out of the room is easier than participating in class. I don't even have to get dressed. Most of the time, work or school is much more productive in a work or school setting.
  3. Rush Limbaugh has around 16 million listeners per week and spews nothing but fear. Plus, the church likes keeping people in control, and keeping them stupid and fearful is great way to do so. That's a 1-2 punch, and there's more.
  4. Holy crap this. Bulk bins are crap on normal days, but now it's even worse. Personally, I'm not rolling those dice today, and wouldn't be opposed to shutting them down entirely (aside from things that need cooking like beans, rice, etc, but the other day I watched multiple people walk by the candy bins, reach their hands inside to grab and eat, then walk away as though nothing happened. Yeah, I'll pass on the fuzzy peaches unless they're in a sealed bag. To add to what yourself and @oldnews are mentioning, food-handling staff apparently need a refresher on foodsafe as the number of people I see scratching their eyes or face before wandering over to the deli slicer is unacceptable on a normal day, we are not, however, operating on normal days here. Heightened awareness and training stops or slows the spread, but in light of how people tend to be people anyways, simply do yourselves a favour and stay away from deli meat and bulk food intended for raw consumption until this blows over. ps: holy crap is it ever fun to touch ones own face. I probably do it 3000 times per day. Only now I do it inside the comfort of my own home after having washed my hands, and when in public I'm constantly, like a broken record, saying to myself "don't touch your face" even if both hands are already full.
  5. That would be sad as it's nowhere near intelligent. For this crap to blow over it's going to take the efforts of the resilient to outweigh the ignorance of the arrogant.
  6. If I start feeleing depressed I go to Google and type in "flash boobs". It gets me back to seeing positives in this world. Mind you, I can't enjoy much of an in person flashed-boob, what with social distancing and all, but it is a good escape.
  7. 1 baby, 1, and they don't know if the baby had it before birth or if it picked up the virus afterwards. As for the tests, they've been looking into where the virus hides (spinal fluid/central nervous system) and I'm sure we'll be hearing about new ways they've come up with detecting it as it's in hiding soon enough. The world has really only know about this and been working on it since February. Sure, the virus is moving fast, but our reactions are moving pretty fast as well. 1st human vaccine trials? It took a year or so for that to happen with SARS. I'm in total agreement with your last sentence.
  8. Indeed, I kind of glossed over that part, but you're right, and it will totally make a difference.
  9. Agreed, and love me some Mediterranean diet, but they are old. Japan, Germany, and Italy have the most 65+ aged folk per capita. https://www.prb.org/which-country-has-the-oldest-population/
  10. So from Rob Fleming's "BC schools closed indefinitely" to "see you in a week"? Seems like you're in a position to refuse such action based on the words of the education minister. Not to mention, I'm sure some of your union members feel the same way. Humour is an effective way to deal with trying times; displaying a lacknof empathy is not. That's right, people are going to continue to die as these decisions are made. All we can donis our part and hope the gov't keeps those who need help afloat for the short term. But yeah, that won't likely be a 6 months mortgage free handout, they'll still have to pay the money back they owe. Renters, well, totally different, for obvious reasons.
  11. It's possible they could do that, but if not many people are on the trains (and not many should be) then the issue may not be as bad as it could be. I haven't been on a skytrain or bus for weeks so I'm unsure of the current ridership.
  12. Because I don't know where they all live, and carpool shiftwork is not practical.
  13. Can't shut transit down if your essential services are using it to commute. Nurses, doctors, whoever... they all need to get to work. However, I'll be avoiding public transit like the plague.
  14. Questions about whether you should go to the doctor or not? Check it: https://covid19.thrive.health/
  15. I got a touch of that myself. Wish I had a home gym.
  16. EI will get you, you'll just need to do some paperwork. I don't think I'll be getting anything as a student though.
  17. It's the right thing to do. BCIT classes are all online. If liquor stores close then I'll be dry for the duration as I'm out.
  18. Trucker hats covered in bbq sauce, shorts and sandals with socks pulled up past the shins, camo jacket with american flag.
  19. This signer on CTV news is killing it.
  20. Anecdotal, but I bumped into a group of Americans at Save On and at Safeway over the last few days. Don't know why they were here, but they were definitely American. They had the tell-tale give-a-ways like, "I don't know what that's like in Canada" (said in a Washington drawl), or, "we may be up here awhile" in stereotypical American clothes and the same accent. If you're going to be on lockdown, and at risk of getting sick, why not go somewhere that your money goes 40% further!?
  21. If I picked up "extra" supplies they'd already be exhausted.
  22. Dustin Hoffman is annoying as hell and Kevin Spacey is a supporting-goomba, but I've still watched that movie 7 or 8 times as I'm a sucker for viral/apocalypse type premises. Has anyone watched Netflix's Pandemic? I've seen none of it.
