  2. Not surprising for 7.2mil he was not living up to his contract with his performance it will suck the 2 years of the over 4 mil in dead cap. Outside of those years it isn't too bad. Really goes to show just how bad Benning's moves were, he dumped 3 players that were all on expiring deals only to get back another player with even longer term. I don't have much expectation that the Canucks are going to make it far in the playoffs if they manage to even get there next year. Until this team finally fully embraces a full rebuild I am not holding out hope for them.

So how do you avoid bloated contracts at free agency? How do you improve the team without free agency? Let me guess, build through the draft, correct?

What in your opinion is a bloated contract?

So you would not pay 5-6m per for Gavrikov? Or 3-4m for Barbashev? Or 5m for Graves?

Jim Rutherford said it best the Canucks are no where near competing for a Stanley Cup so they should be no where near the cap. What I am really saying is Vancouver will have the extra 4 mil that gives them the ability to get out of those contracts without giving away assets, picks etc. I say let those contracts run there course. Which means they can't really sign too many players in free agency if at all until those contracts are gone.

  4. It would be much easier to trade off every other asset Canucks have now to try to trade for Chicago's 1st overall pick which could possibly land them enough assets with Hughes, Demko, Petterson, +++++ as much as I would want to have Bedard play for Vancouver it would be easier to sign him to a deal when he becomes a UFA. Honestly I think Chicago is worse off now then they were last year because they have no team to put around Bedard.

Here's another plan: We wait 10 years for Bedard to reach UFA status, and then signs with us a la Tavares.

This seems like the most likely option. Though Petterson, Hughes will be in their 30s by this time ><

  6. Brad tried to make the best of a bad situation in Calgary and it just did not work out whatsoever after Gaudreau and Tkachuk wanted out. Gambled with Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri unfortunately did not work out for them. I think if they don't bounce back next year they will probably go back into rebuild. there is nothing I like more then watching the Flames fail. B)
