Hate to be a negative Nancy but I'm thinking the same thing. OTT is EMBARRASSED from getting blown out so bad two games in a row. They'll be throwing everything they got at Holtby (who has looked average so far). I'm thinking its probably going to be 3-2 OTT in a tighter checking game, but hopefully the boys prove me wrong. GCG!

He should be anointed as coach for life and when he finally croaks (at age 156 *hopefully*) his suit should be hung in the rafters as hommage to the greatest coach of all time.

Exactly. These guys are stil playing hockey, something they've dedicated their whole lives to, and know inside and out. It isn't like a joining a new team is the same as switching careers from a plumber to a computer programmer and being totally lost with a huge learning curve. They all know the fundamentals. Besides that Toffoli seemed to have no issue creating chemistry with his new line mates 3 games in. Tanev seemed just fine on the blue line in CGY for that matter as well. Unless TGs systems are so convoluted that a PRO hockey player can't figure them out then I don't think these guys being too new is the problem.

This is it exactly. When you're on a team that plays a sound system you can essentially plug anyone in there and they'll do okay as long as they stick to the system and play as a unit. Think Detroit under Scotty Bowman. The Redwings were tops in there division for years regardless of the changes in the line up. This is because they played a very good team oriented system. The Canucks otoh, seem to play an every man for himself type of game. Probably not how TG wants it but that is how it appears from the outside looking in. Everyone is out of sync and it shows. It isn't a new problem due to the 'new guys' either. Its been an issue for 2 or 3 seasons now. If TG was smart he'd be picking Schmidt's brain regarding VGKs system and implementing that! As they're another club that plays a strong team game and are very hard to beat.

If we keep going down the same path its going to be a forfeit guaranteed. If we change coaching staff there *might* be a chance we bounce back. Which option sounds better? Not only that, but after 52 games of this garbage how many of our ELCs are going to want to stick around? You think these guys enjoy the frustration of losing all the time?

Whomever said Myers is the defensive version of Virtanen hit the nail on the head, as they're both guilty of making lazy and nonsensical plays. Don't get me wrong, I like both of them and want to see them succeed but some of the plays they make makes me shake my head and ask what the hell were they thinking.

The team system needs to better utilize how energy is expended. Giving the puck up and then fighting to get it back isnt working smarter. Its just wasting precious energy. A team this talented need to be focused on carrying the puck into the zone with support so they can use their energy and skill on a scoring chance rather than wasting it all on puck recovery.

This is an old way of thinking. In the cap era personnel changes too frequently. In 3 years any one of Hughes, Boeser, Miller or Petterson could be gone due to cap issues. Look what happened to Markstrom. Reminds me of what fans were saying in the WCE era. "Just wait 2-3 years for the Sedins to develop and we'll be a contender." In reality, by the time the Sedins were ready the WCE was long gone. The time to push is always now, because you never know what the future will bring.

The playoffs weren't that great. They beat STL because they aren't overly aggressive on D and Marky stood on his head. Our skilled guys had time and space to make plays.. As soon as they matched up against an aggressive team in the VGK it all fell apart. This team doesn't do well against aggressive teams because they don't employ a system that encourages puck support. As soon as the lone man is pressured he coughs up the puck or makes a bad stretch pass because there is no one else around to pass to.
