  1. Hughes and Miller are the X factor no one predicted working quite so well. Now that we've seen the new team dynamic the goal posts have moved. Why shoot for just making the playoffs? Seize the day! As the song goes, "the chance may never come again"
  2. I have posted the current systems, the problems with the current systems, and suggestions to improve the current systems at least 20 times now in these forums every time some yahoo makes the exact same claim you just did. I'm tired of repeating myself. Here's a very brief summary: passive defense, forwards too high on the breakout, static powerplay.
  3. I think someone from the Canucks staff is on the forums. Its probably the Director of Social Media or something similar so they can gauge fan sentiment but our voices do get heard and if we scream loud enough our message will be relayed to the highest echelons of the organization.
  4. Ha! Green deployed Jake all wrong. 4th line grinder minutes, no PP. Green finally smartened up and moved him up the lineup and onto the PP and look at him now. JV should have been on PP2 from Game 1 this season not from Game 43. If Green was a good coach he would have recognized that. If anything he's stifled JVs development.
  5. Crow is a good coach. He had a winning record during his time here. With talent like Dave Scatchard and Jan Bulis in the lineup did you really expect him to bring home the Cup?
  6. Yep, their winning has nothing to do with Petterson, Hughes, Miller, Horvat etc and everything to do with the excellent PP system, defensive system, and breakout strategy Green has allowed to be implemented. Its the other way around. Petterson and Hughes are players who can dominate hockey games by themselves and they're still rookies! Those guys could win hockey games with a paper bag as a coach. Please don't try to pin their success on Green and his beer leauge systems. On a positive note I've noticed the last 2 games the Canucks appear to be using the forwards as puck support on the breakouts so perhaps Green has finally figured out that playing the forwards high results in a very low success rate of gaining the zone with posession. It only took him 80+ games to see what others pointed out after 20 but perhaps he's turning the corner.
  7. The players have also seemed to adopt the "we played good enough, it's not our fault we lost, they're a heavy team" attitude which isn't a playoff attitude.
  8. Trevor Linden? He could get it done.
  9. That's where you're wrong buddy-boy. Team systems are everything in hockey and systems are created and implemented by the coaching staff. Thats why you can plug any player into a team that plays a good system and they'll have success. Gudbranson moving from Vancouver to Pittsburgh is a perfect example. A huge liability for us but within a month or two of playing in PIT he played like a reliable stay at home D man. He didn't just magically improve his game but rather it was the result of getting put on a team that had a solid defensive system in place.
  10. I concur. If Aquaman is serious about being anything other than a bubble team than Green should be replaced by Gallant asap.
  11. Triple post. JFC, a few Shotgun Jake's too many. That kids gotta slow down!
  12. The year is 2029 and Virtanen tallies his 1,000th career point. Provost: Its just an anomaly guys. Look at his corsi! He's playing sheltered minutes! The data sample isn't big enough to say he's turned the corner yet. Trade him for picks before it's too late!
  13. @Provost Only 2 assists tonight AND quarterbacking the powerplay? Obviously just an anomaly. This kid has peaked and he'll never be more than a 30 point player. Maybe we should cut our losses and trade him for a pick before the deadline?
  14. Win or lose it's been a very entertaining game with the Canucks dominating. Up and down the line up everyone is battling hard. How about Virt on the PP eh? He's the most dominant player on that line!
  15. Should they rename the rink 'Little Things Arena' to honour him when he retires, do you think?
  16. OMG, that American anthem singer was horrible. Poor girl. Who told her she could sing?
  17. Nah, the Sharks are done. Over the hill, past their prime. The Canucks shouldn't lose to a team like that. There's just no way.
  18. Except you. You want to trade him for a crapshoot draft pick.
  19. Agreed that he makes some dumb plays sometimes that makes one think he is unaware or slow thinking in his decision making. He just needs to find his niche. I see him most effective as an Anson Carter type of player when he was with the twins. Use your speed to crash the net and look to pound in a rebound. Leave the pretty plays to the skill guys like Pettersson. Jake just needs to figure out how to use his strengths and that comes with experience and maturity. Regarding bad passes I think most of the team does that because of the system they play. When there is a player within 10ft its easy to make a quick crisp pass. When everyone is 100ft away you have to slow, look around, and then really thread the pass. Some guys have the ability to do that (Hughes, Pettersson), others don't and end up coughing up the puck often or making a desperation pass.
  20. I hope this turns into another "Burrows, Do We Really Need Him" thread and people are still posting in it 3 years from now when Jake's putting up 30 goals per season and again in 12 years when the organization is inducting him into the ring of honour.
  21. If his success in December was an anomaly and now he's regressing back to his former trajectory than I don't see a problem with that because his former trajectory was one of continuous improvement year over year! Who in their right mind complains about a young player who continues to improve? You're right about the sample size though. Again I'll use the Sedins as an example, if you plot their performance over the first 4 years of their career the data suggests that their potential was to be 30-40 point players throughout their career. As we now know that isn't what happened. Like people do, they got better at their job as they gained more experience. Replot Jake's performance chart again when he's 25 and then again when he's 28 and come back to us with your conclusions once you have that as an adequate sample size. Right now it's just too early to tell. All we know for sure is that Jake continues to improve year over year. The sample size is just too small to definitively draw any conclusions about his potential. Right now the sky is the limit.
  22. Um, not exactly. You seem to be saying Jake achieved his mean performance last season and is now on the decline. That's your opinion. Not a fact based on numbers. His offensive numbers indicate he has improved year over year, so if you extrapolate that into the future he is still on the upswing and is yet to reach his ceiling.
  23. This is utter nonsense. Trade him for a pick that might end up to be another Hunter Shinkurik when he's proven himself as a legit 3rd liner with upward potential??? Henrik and Daniel were 30-40 point players until their 5th season when they had their breakout year. You were probably advocating to trade them for picks back then too eh?
  24. If you want to examine his performance under a microscope like you're doing than you should be looking at his points-per-minute average rather than points per game. If you recall the month of December was the month that Jake started playing some decent minutes and was also added to PP2. It's kind of hard to put up a PPG when you're averaging 8 minutes a game like he was in Oct/Nov, no? Can you point out anyone else in the league who puts up big numbers while playing less than 1/6 of the game? If you look at the team stats for last year the entire team fell off the cliff. Remember Petterson had 10 goals in his 1st 10 games played and was above a PPG at the midway point of the season but ended the year with *only* 66 points? I guess if we use the same measuring stick on him that you want to use on Virt than he isn't worth a big contract either?
