JB can make some trades. Move Sutter, Schaller, or even Beagle to clear some space. Replace them with ELCs from the Comets. Whether he's disinterested or just young and immature is debatable. Do you recall a few seasons ago when Markstrom was the backup for Miller and he was known as the goofy jokester? Beiksa even made the comment recently on HNIC that obviously he's matured, is taking the game seriously, and dedicated himself to it. That from a teammate who actually interacted with him on and off the ice. Apparently when he was younger he was more about goofing off and being the comedian than playing hockey. Look at him now. The same can and is happening with Jake. All the Canucks 3rd and 4th liners are in the red when it comes to plus/minus. Jake's no different. Pearson has been on the 2nd line all season and makes $3.75m. I bet that if their roles were reversed and Pearson was 3rd line he'd have a lot less points and Virt would have a lot more. While I agree that Jake's just been floating along so far in his career I think the tide is turning and he's beginning to step up his game. Is he worth $4m at this point? No. I would offer himn$2-2.5 for 1-2 years and tell him he needs to prove himself for that high next contract.

Beagle makes $3m. Nothing against him, he has his role. I'm just saying that if theyre paying a 30+ year old that kind of money to put in 5 goals a year than why is the prospect of them paying the same to a 15 to 20 goal scoring 23 year old worrisome?

My man Virtanen! Getting to play with Petterson! Personally I'd switch Erickson and Boeser though. -

Did anyone pick STL to win the Cup last year? Nope! Just because these guys get paid to express their opinions about hockey doesn't make them experts. Both the season and the playoffs are a long grind and there's a lot of variables and intangibles at play aside from which team has the most goal scorers. What looks good on paper doesn't always pan out irl *cough, Tampa Bay, cough* and teams that sports writers predict to miss the playoffs do win Cups (like St. Louis). This Canucks team definitely has some elite talent and I agree with Alf that a new coaching staff that recognizes how to utilize player strengths and minimize deficiencies with the group they are given just might be our 'Jordan Binnington'. Based on Greens post game comments night after night he appears clueless about what is lacking and how to fix it. His general attitude seems to be that how they're playing is good enough. That's not the attitude of a coach who can bring this group to the next level. -

Leivo was invisible out there tonight. In fact, he's been a ghost for the last 10-12 games. The guy really needs to step up his game. -

Definitely. Good effort so far. -
Don't forget about the dismal breakout system.

I think this is the root of the problem. TG thinks the systems his coaching staff have implemented work well and he sees no reason to change anything. A successful coach strives for improvement no matter how well their team is doing in the standings. I do not believe Green has that kind of attitude.

This was the game I watched. The Canucks didn't play particularly well but the Wild were horrible. The guys talking about Canucks domination earlier in the thread need to take their homer glasses off. Had the Canucks truly dominated this could have been an 8-1 game with at least 2 PP goals. Im not harping on them, it was the 2nd game of early morning back to backs so I'm just happy they found a way to pull off another regulation win. -

What's up with all the negativity this afternoon? The Canucks played a good 1st period on the road. They didn't give Minny many chances and had a few of their own. I also noticed they seemed to be carrying the puck into the zone more and avoiding the dump in. Perhaps someone on the coaching staff is finally starting to figure it out. -

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5424287 Kass has a hearing tomorrow with the NHL Player Safety. Lest we forget this is the new NHL where 'toxic masculinity' like this isn't tolerated. Rumour has it that Buttman is thinking about rebranding the sport as Ballet on Ice to showcase its softer side. -

Thanks man, sometimes I may come across as overly critical of the team but its tough love, I assure you. The rebound thing appears to be a recent development. During the winning streak and especially in the FL games I noticed on multiple occasions when the puck was loose and only a few feet away our players wouldn't go for it but would instead maintain their 5 man box. It wasn't just 1 guy doing it so that's how I know it's a coaching thing and not just a player being lazy or whatever. -

Power Play: Do you understand the difference between the words static and dynamic? Static means something stays the same, dynamic means it is constantly changing. What we employ right now is a static powerplay. The players stand in the same spot and try to set up the same shots over and over. Its great that we've had so much success with the static system and it is a testament to just how skilled our PP1 line actually is. For an example of a dynamic PP check out an STL game some time. The players without the puck are constantly moving around and switching sides trying to create open ice and keep the D guessing. Defense: Be more aggressive on the puck/puck carrier. Dont just back up and allow the forwards to walk into our zone every time. Stop collapsing down into a 5 man box and merely trying to block shots giving the opposition all the time and space in the world to set up the perfect play. When Marky gives up a rebound actually go after the rebound instead of maintaining your 5 man box while the opposition goes to fetch the puck and try again. Breakout: This is my biggest pet peave and what caused me to get on Greens case in the first place when they were struggling mid way through last season. STOP PLAYING THE FORWARDS HIGH. Breakout of the zone as a 3 man unit providing puck support and passing options as you move up ice. Currently what we do is, as soon as the D gains possession of the puck the forwards race up the ice to go stand at the blue line. This gives the D only one passing option. To make a stretch pass through the neutral zone. You ever wonder why our D circle back in our zone so often? Because the forwards are covered and they don't have any other play besides to circle back or go D to D. When they are able to make the stretch pass the typical results are; it's too hot to handle and gets tipped in to the zone, the pass gets picked off and the play comes the other way, or the pass is successful but since the forward is standing still on the blue line when he accepts it he's quickly pressured off the puck or forced to dump it in. We do this over and over all game long and it rarely ever succeeds. With a leauge leading power play, 3 current All Stars and 2 former ones, 5 players all over 30 points mid way through the season, and an elite goaltender you bet your a** we could be 10 games above .500 right now and running away with the division if we took a different approach to the game by employing better systems. I've been following the Canucks for almost 30 years now and this just might be the most talented group of guys we've ever had. That's why it pains me so much to see it being squandered. As far as who should replace Green, well that's not my problem. Whomever interviews well and has the right attitude. Greens 'good enough is good enough' attitude isn't the attitude that wins championships. -

The systems are all garbage and that's the style Green wants to play, so yeah, he needs to go. With the talent we have the Canucks could be solidly 1st in the division instead of battling for a playoff spot right now like we are under the current coaching staff. With a more dynamic PP, more aggressive D zone strategy, and a better breakout this team could easily be 10 to 15 games above .500 right now.
