  1. Yep, his Junior B style of play isn't working out. He sees no problem with it so it's time for him to go.
  2. "We played a good game, we had our chances." -Green. Guaranteed this is what he is going to say.
  3. Brah, did you even read my post? That's literally what I just said. Earlier in the season we were getting secondary scoring but now that opposing teams have figured us out it has dried up.
  4. Whether you agree with Don Cherry's sentiment or not isn't the issue. Free speech is the corner stone of a well functioning democracy and without freedom of speech you no longer have a democracy. I may not agree with everything Don Cherry has to say but I'll damn well defend his right to say it.
  5. Nah, we need changes to the system we play. Other teams have figured us out and now only our most skilled guys are managing to find the back of the net. The rest are getting shutout by sound defense. It's pretty easy to defend against a team that plays exactly the same every game, every shift. The lack of secondary scoring is on coaching, not coasting.
  6. How about, if you don't like what he has to say then don't listen? Change the channel or hit the mute button during Coaches Corner. This cancel culture bull$h1t has gotten out of hand. People are entitled to have opinions that you don't agree with. It's a free %"$&\&ing country! If you want to live in place where the government controls what you are and aren't allowed to say then why don't you move to China or North Korea? It sounds like you'll be much happier there, where all you'll ever hear on TV is government approved messages.
  7. I used to think so too. If we won it was "OMG guyz we're gonna win the Stanley Cup this year!" If we lost we should fire everyone and blow up the team. After being around awhile you realize there are posters who are cheerleaders and posters who are nay sayers. The naysayers come out after a loss to say "I told you so" and the cheerleaders come out after a win to go "Rah rah rah". Both groups tend to stay quiet when the game goes the other way which gives this board it's bipolar appearance.
  8. Or it might be drilled into them to stick to the system no matter what. You hear a lot of that in interviews. Players saying they need to play their game, stick to the game plan, everyone has bought into the system, and coach Green repeatedly saying if we stick to the system we'll win more than we lose. I don't think it's the players lacking creativity. It's the coaching staff who does, and the players are scared to deviate from the one dimensional system because TG will bench them if they do. While I desperately hope so I highly doubt it. Aquillini seems to have a hard on for TG. Imagine what a team like this could do under a true NHL level coach.
  9. Teams have watched the tape and figured out how to foil our stationary PP. Just pressure the puck carrier and get in the lanes to prevent the cross ice pass from the half wall. If you noticed, after STL figured this out everybody has been doing it every game since.
  10. The system they play sucks. They've managed to have success this year so far despite the system, not because of it.
  11. The Canucks are undefeated in regulation at home so far this year. They're going to battle hard to maintain that. Their start is key. They need to come out and dominate the first 20 minutes like they did every game of their winning streak. If they can do that this one's in the bag.
  12. Where can I buy a hat with the Johnny Canucks logo on it? I had one I bought at the Team Store in GM Place back in like 2007-08 but I don't have it anymore and I don't find them for sale anywhere anymore.
  13. All I'm saying is he made his NHL debut in the 2013-14 season and has seen no significant NHL playing time until last season with the Canucks. Meaning he wasn't good enough to make the big squad in TO permanently. He's fine as a $1.5m bottom six guy but he doesn't belong on the PP or out in OT. I will give him credit for that nifty SO goal he had that won it for Van. That was a slick move. But the post I was originally replying to said "you don't put AHL trash on the 2nd line" referring to Loui. So I was merely pointing out that Leivo is basically an AHL player and he was in fact playing up with Horvat for a time last night in the Peg. If he gets 35 points this season I'll eat a Canucks jersey. That's how confident I am that it won't happen. 20 maybe, but certainly not 30+. His PP line would actually have to score some goals for that to happen.
  14. I prefer this comparison: Trevor Linden/ Bo Horvat Pavel Bure/ Elias Pettersson Geoff Courtnal/ Brock Boeser Sergio Momesso/ JT Miller Dave Babych/ Christopher Tanev Jyrke Lummi/ Alex Edler Kirk McLean/ Jakob Markstrom Gino Odjick/ Antoine Rousell
  15. *Cough cough* Leivo *cough cough* Look at his stats. The Canucks are the first NHL team to play him a significant number of games and he's been around for a while, just mostly in the AHL. Though he is a $1.5m player unlike Louie so there's that.
  16. He's gotten too slow due to age. It happens to them all. They can't keep up with the kids anymore. Trevor Linden was a healthy scratch for much of his last season for the same reason. Hell, even Gretzky was a shell of his former self his last season playing for NYR. LE is never again going to be the 30G scorer he was with BOS no matter who his line mates are or how many minutes he plays.
  17. Virt has looked really good playing on the wing with Bo. I thought the Horvat-Baertchi-Virtanen line was probably our most effective line in the first period in Winny last night. Later on in the game TG started his typical line churning pairing Bo with guys like Leivo all the cohesiveness dried up and it looked like a disorganized mess out there.
  18. Louie plays the Green style of hockey perfectly. That's why Green keeps playing him over guys like Guadette. When are people going to realize that it's not the players, it's the overall Junior B type of system they're playing that is the problem? I've noticed the same problems game in and game out but have remained silent up to this point because despite the elementary and predictable system they're forced to play they've managed to win games. Other teams are figuring it out now and countering it. I really hope this isn't going to be another disappointing season of mediocrity under Coach Green. The teams got way too much talent to waste it.
  19. I agree with you 100% about the chip and chase strategy. You'll notice teams like the Jets that consistently carry the puck in to the ozone play a style where the forwards rush together up the ice providing puck support/passing options. The Canucks puck carrier seems to nearly always be 1 on 4 when they breach the blue line. The rest of the team is changing or nowhere to be found. So they either dump it in or turn it over. Their other method is the stretch pass because the forwards are playing way too high. The stretch pass either gets picked off, is inaccurate and gets turned over or results in an icing, or is too hard to handle for the receiver and gets turned over. The most frustrating thing about Green is that he sees no problems with the style of play. Every post game interview (including tonight) he says they played well and he was satisfied with the game.
