  1. I'm not saying a coach needs to yell and scream like Tortorella, just that he needs to be honest with the players and let his disappointment with the performances be known. If the coach is handing out participation trophies win or lose it doesn't motivate the players. To your second point, I'm not advocating for Green to single out an individual player or throw his team under the bus in the media, but just saying "we played good but didn't get the bounces" doesn't cut it either. "Power play was a little too stationary tonight, we need to work on that" or "we're making 1 too many passes, we need to simplify our game and take the shot when there is an opportunity." Constructive criticisms that the team needs to work on as a whole. I would *hope* that the players feelings wouldn't be hurt by hearing that. As an aside, its really interesting to go back and read posts from 4 years ago when Green was being suggested as a replacement for Willie D. People were making the same arguments for keeping Willie that they are now about Green. Why are some people so opposed to coaching changes? I don't get it.
  2. I think too many people think of a teams development as a linear progression. In reality it is anything but. There are so many variables. Trades, injuries, and other setbacks. The great thing about hockey is its unpredictability. All the variables is what makes it exciting. No one expected STL to go from basement dweller to Cup winner a couple years ago yet that is what happened. No one expected the Pens to make it to the Finals 2 years into Sid's career but it happened. Having a good team on paper doesn't always equate to success nor does a mediocre team equate to failure. Every team in the playoffs has an equal shot at it.
  3. Lol, it doesn't matter if the players think Green is a swell guy. He's not there to be their friends. He's there for results. Most bosses are hard asses and while their employees may not like them they do respect them. When Greens giving his guys a pat on the back after a 6-1 loss to MTL and telling them how well they played it isn't helping anyone. Secondly, when you hear Green say from the podium night after night that the team played well but just didn't get the bounces how can you conclude anything other than that he's satisfied with the status quo? All his public statements say exactly that.
  4. The systems are not working. Everyone on planet earth recognizes this, except Green. Furthermore he seems to have a "good enough is good enough" attitude which is not what you want in a coach. A coach should push his players to grow, and always strive for continuous improvement. Guys like Scotty Bowman were never satisfied. When he had 3 Cups he wanted 4 etc. Green appears to lack that drive and it shows in his coaching style. He might be a nice guy and fun to have a beer with but that doesn't make him a good coach. The systemic issues that plague the team have been here for the last 4 seasons under Green despite all the personell changes on the ice. Greens had ample time to address them but after 4 long years I'm not convinced that he's even recognized them yet. I would like to see Green replaced by a veteran NHL coach who has proven he knows what he is doing by way of a winning record in his NHL coaching career. An NHL caliber coach with a winning track record. That is all.
  5. Boeser, Petterson, Hughes, all in the running for Calders in their rookie years. But yeah, crap roster, lol whatever. Our top end talent is a NHL caliber coaches wet dream. We just don't have a coaching staff capable of utilizing a system that complements their playing style. Instead Green insists on this grind it out style of chip and chase combined with a passive 5 man box defense. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. Every other coach in the leauge has figured us out and how to beat us yet Green sees no problems and plans to change nothing. Hell, even the commentary on SN and CBC publicly identifies our weaknesses every night yet Green continues to get up on the podium and talk about how well we played. The guy is completely clueless.
  6. " Another great game." -Travis Green (former coach of the year candidate)
  7. I'm going to make a BOLD prediction; 9-1 Canucks Virtanen scores all 9. EDM GM gets Benning on the phone immediately after the game to offer up McDavid for Jake, LE, and a 3rd round pick in a sweetheart deal. The Vancouver media goes nuts. How could Benning give up a 3rd?! He's selling the future! They'd say.
  8. Not going to happen. Green and Aquaman are besties. He's probably inking his signature on the new 10 year contract right now. Mumbling "theyre a good team over there, we're trending in the right direction, I liked our first period, we had some good looks, we just didn't get the bounces, thats how it goes sometimes."
  9. That is the root of the problem. Green doesn't learn from his mistakes because, based on what he says publicly, he doesn't see anything wrong. Just keep doing the same thing and eventually it will work. Aquilini seems to have faith on him so I think we're stuck with Green for the foreseeable future.
  10. We played a good first. 2nd was a little shaky and the wheels fell off in the 3rd. I was very happy to see Petterson tie it up and at least force OT. The boys have got to be better if they want to turn this season around.
  11. Yes! The perfect period for the Canucks. So glad Big Mac got the clear victory in the scrap. Loved seeing Hogs smirking on the bench. Justice has been served.
  12. I think a $6×2 or $7x2 bridge deal would be reasonable. Hopefully these guys will accept that.
  13. Jeezuz man, no need to be so patronizing. My bad, I thought JT had COVID. I stand corrected. I guess I'll jump on the 'worthless bum' bandwagon with the other half of CDC now, lol.
  14. JV used to be known for his thundering checks back in the minors. He has the ability. He's just lazy, or maybe fears retaliation. I dunno. I wasn't suggesting Virtanen try to take on the roll of enforcer, in fact I said the exact opposite. Guys like Edler, Myers, and Benn can all throw a heavy hit and need to do so tonight. . I singled out Virt as the only forward we have capable of delivering a punishing check and I stand by it.
  15. People seem to overlook the fact that Miller had COVID at the beginning of the season. That means he had no 'training camp' and his body was weakened while fighting off the virus. Cut him some slack. He may even be a long hauler, we don't know! While the team played piss poor at the start of the season they're beginning to gel and play better hockey. I would be very concerned if they were still playing the same as they did against MTL every night but it appears that they've finally turned the corner. As for Petterson, his compete level has been in over drive since game 1. He may have needed a few games to shake off some rust but he has been a key part of this teams success lately. His impact on the outcome of games isn't just in the G/A category. He is constantly hustling back to force a turnover or battling in the corner for a loose puck. That is a really great aspect of Pettersons game. He does it all. Forecheck, backcheck, throwing hits. If everyone on the team played with the same drive and determination as Petterson we'd be virtually unbeatable.
  16. I would love to see Virtanen running guys tonight. If a lanky guy like Petterson can finish his checks JV has no excuse (other than laziness). Unfortunately he's the only forward in the line up who can lay a punishing check. We need to start laying on the body early to set the tone and send the message that we won't tolerate abuse of our young stars. No need to play dirty or Bertuzzi anyone, just check hard and check often.
  17. Couldn't agree more. The team played well last game and it could have gone either way. We had a ton of chances but didn't get the bounces. And Petterson has been a dominant force all season. Anyone who sees a problem with his game play needs to lay off the cannabis. Lol.
  18. Hmm, sorry I don't see how referring to homer bias is derogatory or a "troll" at all. I have homer bias, Shorthouse and Garrett have homer bias. Pretty much every fan of every team has homer bias. Its pro sports. People want their team to win. Its human nature. It probably stems from our tribal origins. My main point was that for every missed call against the Canucks there will probably be a missed call for them somewhere else down the road. You don't see it that way and that's cool, agree to disagree. I just get tired of the reffing conspiracy 'crap' and blaming the refs every time we lose.
  19. Replying to @debluvscanuckssince PGT is now locked. While I agree there were some blatant missed calls last night (the trip on Miller, I think it was, prior to the reviewed non-goal being another) I don't believe there is a bias against the Canucks or that teams like Boston and VGK are allowed to get away with stuff that we would not, as you suggest. I think that's your own homer bias at play. The only way to have completely objective officiating would be to have sensors all over every peice of equipment and let AI make the calls. That would probably mean the majority of every game would be played 5 on 4, 4 on 4, or 4 on 3 but it would make it fair and impartial. As long as there are humans at the helm the officiating will never be perfect, at any level. The refs can only call what they see and what they see is their own interpretation of what happened. You know, like sometimes it looks like a trip at full speed but in slow motion you see a player just lost an edge and fell down, that sort of thing. AI could make that differentiation but humans will get it wrong 9 times out of 10.
  20. Exactly. Reffing sucks generally because its subjective. Sometimes it goes our way and sometimes it doesn't. Get over it! As for Hogs, I was very happy to see Virt and Sutter immediately jump in to defend him. Thats the kind of mentality we need from our team.
  21. What? They're not playing terribly. They just haven't been able to capitalize on their chances and they've had quite a few this game.
  22. Just as long as JB sets enough aside to re-sign LE when his contract expires. We'll need his leadership in the locker room for all the new young guys. Give him the C and a big raise.
