  1. Just saw on Twitter that there's a Norwegian playoff game heading to the 8th overtime period right now... its 1-1 and the shots are 89-86. Crazy.

Heartbreaking amount of time to play a game and lose. Prediction: 1/2 the players suffer from dehydration tomorrow.

Wow! What a ridiculous game... can't imagine being on the losing end of that, but I bet part of them is just glad its finally over.

Broke an 80 year old American record for longest game ever. Interesting. Now to fact check that!

  2. The playoffs start in about two weeks I believe, and Chicoutimi is qualified. It looks like all of our junior prospects will be in the playoffs except Brett McKenzie with North Bay.
  3. Four assists for Zhukenov today! Brings him to 17-47-64 in 61 games, to go with his 54.2% faceoff rate. He has 14 points in his last 9 games, with three games left to play in the regular season.
  4. One goal and two assists for MacEwan today, to go with 15/23 faceoffs won. 29-42-71 in 64 games on the season, as well as an impressive 55.5% faceoff rate. Just two games left in the regular season for Gatineau now.
  5. Let the Aston-Reese sweepstakes begin...
  6. Gaudette and Northeastern dropped Game 1 in their best-of-three series with Boston University, 3-2 in overtime. Game 2 goes tomorrow at 4:00.
  7. Great to see - although given his injury troubles this year, I wonder if going to Utica for the rest of the year is the best choice or if he would be better served getting a head start on a full summer of recovery. I'd love to see him suit up for the Comets, but only if he's 100% healthy.
  8. He definitely showed a bit of that feisty side in the WJC. I remember him throwing a few hits and being a general pest, but obviously he wasn't going to fight and get kicked out of the tournament. An 8-2 blowout might have unleashed the inner goon though...
  9. Laplante has nine points in his last eight games with the Aces after three in his first 14. Hopefully he can continue his good run until the end of the year and translate that a level up next year, similar to McEneny last season. The entire Comets top line (Archibald-Valk-Grenier) all spent time in the ECHL so there's hope for Laplante yet to improve.
  10. Yeah, fantastic patience by him. He was looking pass the whole time and still faked out the defender.
  11. A three assist effort by Zhukenov today gives him 17-43-60 in 58 games on the year. He's now exceeded last year's totals in all three categories and extends his point streak to six games (2-8-10). Just six games left in Chicoutimi's season before the playoffs.
  12. On the topic of contracts - we're at 47/50, and that doesn't include Brisebois or Juolevi since they're exempt from the limit. I wonder if perhaps the Canucks would look at terminating Anton Cederholm's contract since he was loaned to Sweden this year. If they don't plan on bringing him back to play for the Comets, there really isn't any point in having him take up a spot. Also, Mackenze Stewart mercifully played enough pro games last year to burn a year off his deal so we only have to retain him for one more year after this.
  13. Two more assists for Zhukenov today, along with 9 of 11 faceoffs won. He has 17-40-57 in 57 games as well as a 53.9% faceoff rate, and he's now on a five game point streak (2-5-7).
  14. Jake left the game tonight with a so-far undisclosed injury, which is a shame since the second period was one of the best he's had as a Comet. He was invisible in the first but had four separate individual rushes in the second frame alone; three down the left side beating the defender wide (one of which he tried to make a pass) and one from the right side which was a wrister he missed the net on. Also got into it with Chris Rumble for the second straight game - he was the guy Virtanen hit last week and spurred a response from the Senators leading to a powerplay. Same thing happened today when Virtanen shoved Rumble to the ice and a teammate jumped in and took a roughing penalty. However, he didn't play at all in the third period and wasn't on the Comets bench. Makes you wonder if maybe that shoulder is still bugging him, or if its something new that came up at the end of the second tonight. EDIT: a vague update. Maybe he was feeling mumpy?
  15. Three assists for MacEwan tonight on his first day as a Canuck prospect. 27-38-65 in 60 games on the year now.
  16. C | 6'3" | 205 lbs Shoots | Right Born | 1996-07-08 Birthplace | Charlottetown, PE, CAN The Canucks have signed QMJHL overager Zack MacEwan - he's billed as a gritty two-way player, and had interest from a couple of other teams. Friedman listed Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Ottawa as competitors a couple of weeks ago and he attended Anaheim's prospect camp last year. I don't know what to expect from this signing as it seems like he falls into a similar category as Yan-Pavel Laplante as a grinding overager in the high-scoring Q who hasn't put up a ton of points there despite his size advantage over a lot of the younger players. Of course you can rarely go wrong with free prospects, and he'll be a welcome addition to the forward competition in Utica next season. (And you can't teach size, as the saying goes.)
  17. Somebody needs to make a trade soon so O'Neill stops talking about his undying love for Matthews.

  18. Yeah, in fairness to McCann though there was no way he was getting sent back to junior after 5 goals in his first 9 games... the fans here would've demanded Benning's head. But in hindsight neither of them were fully ready and I hope management learns from that. I'm hopeful that going younger with Goldobin and Dahlin works out better than Vey and Etem too!
  19. What I really like about acquiring Goldobin (and to an extent Dahlen) is that it buys time for our other prospects so they don't have to be rushed. Goldobin's a bit more seasoned, he has pro experience and he can step in right away. Everybody's excited over Boeser and Gaudette, and is impatient about Virtanen but the more we add to our prospect pool the less pressure there is on those players to make an impact right away. If we can get Dahlen signed and into Utica next season I'd say leave at least one of Boeser or Virtanen there, depending on how they perform in camp. Let them grow together, along with Gaudette if he turns pro. We'll have Horvat, Baertschi, Granlund, Goldobin, and hopefully Boucher and Gaunce taking strides with the big club - and who knows, maybe a top lottery pick too.
  20. One goal for Zhukenov today, gives him 17-38-55 in 56 games on the year and a four game point streak (also 15 in his last 13). 53.5% on faceoffs as well.
  21. Its definitely going to be strange seeing the Canucks without Burrows, but we did get a fantastic return. Still doesn't feel right just yet... I'm already looking forward to his ROH induction in the future, as well as his first game back in Vancouver. I'm glad he'll get another chance to play in the playoffs and hope he has a great last two years in Ottawa. And I'm also eternally thankful that we kept him on the team instead of Krog or Pettinger or Brown or whoever...
  22. For anyone who didn't see it, I highly recommend checking it out when you have the time. Really made me think about how strange it'll be whenever Burrows leaves the team, either at the deadline, free agency, or retirement. (Also, Scott Oake is seriously underrated as a host/interviewer.)
  23. He wasn't a negative factor on either goal. On the first one his line got caught midway through a change and the Binghamton player skated right between Cassels and Archibald and passed it off to Flanagan who scored. The second one was a 2-on-1 where Pedan was slow getting back and Sautner blocked a pass that went right back to Bailey who scored. Binghamton's twitter feed has footage of both goals if anyone wants to look them up. Later on, he decked Rumble on a hit that was pretty similar to Labate's from tonight (although Rumble wasn't nearly as hurt after) and got the Comets a four minute PP after one of the Senators retaliated and tried to fight VIrtanen. He was throwing his weight around today, had a couple good looks with the wrister but he has a bit of a tendency to hover in the offensive zone instead of getting involved in the play. Played with Cassels and Kunyk today in a very jumbled lineup... personally I would've liked to see him with Archibald and Valk but Green chose to put Rendulic with them, who's been playing pretty well lately.
