  1. That Burrows interview on After Hours was great. Gonna miss him when he goes, whether its at the deadline or somewhere else in the future.

  2. To be fair, I don't think White was ever praised as a prospect. I still remember being completely stunned when Nonis announced that pick. Agree on Hodgson and Schroeder though, junior/college success means nothing until you can prove it in the NHL. But it is encouraging to have multiple prospects to be excited about at once instead of just whatever player we draft in the first round. I'm more optimistic about our mid to late round picks than ever.
  3. Aside from Robak (who's on an AHL deal), McEneny has been the Comets best defenseman in the latter half of this year and it doesn't surprise me that Green would recommend him since he's been trusting him more and more lately. Definitely deserves the call-up, and its a big turn-around for a guy who was in the ECHL last season. I hope he has a good showing tomorrow and gets a long look in preseason next year as a depth guy.
  4. Hansen has earned those minutes on the PP. It baffles me how resistant WD is to using him there, given that he has a great shot as well as an ability to win puck battles (something the PP often seems to struggle with when under pressure). He showed chemistry with the Sedins last year when he played with them too. I don't mind Megna in a fourth line role, but he's just out of his element playing on the first unit and should never be anywhere near the top six.
  5. Yeah, I don't get why Megna has everything handed to him on a platter and Gaunce continually gets well under ten minutes a night (with the exception of the game Horvat and Sutter missed). I think he'd look good on Sutter's wing. If he can at least get 10:00 or more per night, some of those chances are going to start going in for him. Its just his luck that WD seems to have abandoned the "roll four lines" mantra in the season that he finally makes the regular lineup.
  6. Gaudette's 14th PP goal of the year, puts him on a seven game goal streak/eleven game point streak. 23-26-49 in 31 games now on the season.
  7. He reminds me a little bit of Vlasic. Same type of body frame, all-around player who has a good defensive awareness on the ice. He probably won't be a big point producer in the pros but his offensive instincts are apparent and he's fairly mobile, he makes some nice passes and knows when to join the rush. He's not the most physical guy though, he could improve by using his size to his advantage around the net and in the corners a bit more. Not saying he'll have Vlasic's impact at the NHL level but he's playing that kind of role in the AHL right now, Green likes having him out there in all situations (PK, PP, late in the game). He looks great when paired with a veteran but he's not quite at the level where he can cover for a partner's mistakes yet. He had some rough moments with Sautner (who hasn't played well since his concussion) and a few lately with Pedan, who is a risk-taker. We look pretty set on defense up here in the short-term so I'm hoping he can continue to play big minutes in Utica next year and maybe get spotted in as a call-up here and there.
  8. I wasn't able to see the game today because of work, but I'm curious to know what people thought of Gaunce. I read some positive comments about him on Twitter after the first period but beyond that it seemed like there was nothing good to say about anybody on the team as it went downhill from there. He got way more ice time that he's ever gotten though, and looks like he racked up a few shots and hits. Observations?
  9. He was, but Gaunce has been playing with them since he got reassigned and they've meshed pretty well. Virtanen's on a line with Kunyk and Pelletier now. They've had mixed results 5 on 5 (Pelletier was also scratched for yesterday's game) but Virtanen did have some good chances with them today as well as a few setting up on the left side on the powerplay. He was also out for the 6-on-4 and 6-on-5 late trying to tie the game. Hopefully he can continue to play in a more offensive role and put some points on the board, but we'll see.
  10. Yeah, normally I like Blake Price. But the reason he "just noticed" is probably because like most of our media, he doesn't pay attention to what's going on in Utica and just picks out the negatives (or campaigns for someone to be recalled if they're on a hot streak) to bait people into blind reactions.
  11. Today reminded me of how much I'll miss Burrows if he's traded, and if not, whenever he retires. He was in vintage form scoring and then chirping Lehner right after, and drawing two penalties was the icing on the cake. I really hope he gets a shot at a Cup if he does get dealt (although it'd be really hard for me to cheer for Montreal).
  12. Nick Suzuki with a hat trick today and he's now cracked the top 10 in OHL scoring. I've noticed him rising into the 20's in a few rankings within the last couple of months after not being ranked in the top 31 anywhere at the start of the season, but that still means he'll likely be too much of a reach with our first round pick, and gone by our second rounder.
  13. Two assists for Brisebois today moves him to 6-26-32 in 46 games this season; he also has eight points in his last five games.
  14. Very tough to see how that one actually went in, but good on Gaudette for being there to supposedly bang it home. He's barely left the ice in the latter half of the third with all the powerplays and now Northeastern having the goalie pulled.
  15. Not a highlight reel goal by any means but he knows where to be on the ice for those rebounds, he's been piling up the powerplay points this year too. He has a bit of an odd stance on his faceoffs, although it worked for him on that PP draw.
  16. Great to see Hansen coming back, but it makes me feel bad for Boucher since this means he's now two injuries away from being in the lineup instead of just one. He should've been given a chance to play while we had the flexibility; its not like Megna was setting the world on fire and we couldn't afford to scratch him. It takes more than six minutes to find out what you've got in a player. Either he sits idly in the press box waiting for a chance, gets waived again and maybe makes it to Utica (his stock will be lower now), or the Canucks hang onto him until they can give him a conditioning stint since he hasn't played in a while. I hope they can find a way to keep him in the organization since our forward depth in Utica is pretty shallow and injuries can strike at any moment.
  17. Two assists for Zhukenov today gives him 13-29-42 in 44 games this season. Also won 8/12 faceoffs to put him at 54.2%. He hasn't scored a goal in 11 games, but does have eight assists in his last eight.
  18. That London-Owen Sound game was super entertaining. Even more amazing when you consider all the talent missing from both lineups. Junior hockey is something else, gotta love those 7-6 games. Juolevi looked really solid and his vision for the game was apparent.
  19. Saw this on Twitter this morning (Clayton Keller isn't on the list due to a GP limit, but would rank 2nd behind Gaudette):
  20. Neill could be, too. Brisebois is the only AHL lock out of the three. I hope McEneny gets a shot to stay and keep improving, there'll be a need for players like him in Utica who are in between an AHL vet and a green rookie next year.
  21. Okay, I was probably a bit too vague there, my apologies. Your points are fair criticism. My concern on McEneny being squeezed out is more due to the defense prospects we'll see in Utica next season - Olson, Neill and Brisebois. No guarantee they'll all be signed of course but all three have developed reasonably well, and there isn't room for everyone. Since they're Benning's picks, he'll want them to have a chance to play so somebody could be squeezed out. McEneny and Pedan are the only relevant prospects on D in Utica whose contracts expire at the end of the year (Nilsson and Billins do as well but they'll both likely be replaced by other AHL vets.) And of course the Canucks pay attention to what's going on in Utica but from what I've read by Utica posters it doesn't seem like its to the same degree as before. The Utica posters on HFBoards have mentioned how Henning and Gilman used to be regular sights at Comets games, but since both were fired almost nobody from the Canucks brass attends (Linden's been there once this season, I believe). I'm sure they keep tabs from afar as its in their best interests to but that and the lack of structure put into the Utica roster the past two years creates the impression that they've scaled things back slightly. (Someone who actually lives in Utica and watches games there would probably be able to explain this better than me since I'm just paraphrasing their opinions.)
  22. That was the first regulation loss in the last 11 games I'd worn my Canucks socks. 7-0-4, was a good run... does superstition say I have to switch it up now?

@luckylager I read once (think it was my high school psych class) that most superstitions are just based on one's ability to read probability. For example, there are definitely games I don't wear my Hank jersey (like tonight) because honestly I think the Canucks won't win. If I wear it and they do win it "proves" the luck of the garment (actually just validates my read on the odds). To me it's all in good fun though, so I like to think it's lucky.

Which is why it's best saved for fools, @ThrustyPrusty89 .

You trick itself into believing you have some sort of impact on the outcome of a game that you aren't playing in.

I love all my Canucks swag, but it's just stuff.

  23. I've been really impressed with McEneny so far. Earlier in the season he was in and out of the lineup, but with injuries and call-ups he's finally been given a chance to shine. He probably should have been in Utica last season instead of toiling away in the ECHL but he's making an impact now. Green trusts him in all situations (PP, PK, defending leads late) and although he's been playing sound defensively all year, the offense is finally starting to show too. 5 points in his last 4 games as well as being +8 during that time span (one was an empty net goal though). He's got a nice shot which he's shown a greater willingness to unleash and he's using his mobility to create chances in the offensive zone now. It'd be a shame if the Canucks don't qualify him this summer because he's an "old regime" player or because they aren't paying as much attention to operations in Utica as they used to.
  24. The Comets game recap has given Virtanen credit for a goal tonight; he was standing in front of the net when McEneny scored the second Utica goal, and the Syracuse broadcaster did mention that he thought Virtanen may have tipped it. Hasn't been officially changed on the AHL website yet. EDIT: The Comets have deleted the tweet, but then reuploaded it still crediting Virtanen with the goal. So I guess we'll have to wait and see if its changed on the AHL site or not. The play in question:
