  1. if he goes to Anaheim, Etem or bust. The Ducks shouldn't be overly concerned about dealing prospects if it means they can win a Cup now, their team is at its peak and its time for them to trade for the present.
  2. forget the Ring of Honour, let's give Pat Quinn the GM job back.

  3. next year's Comets will definitely have a lot of potential... it'll be a matter of everyone developing chemistry and learning to play at the AHL level. I'm sure Canucks management would prefer to have most of our prospects stay in Utica for an extended amount of time, no need to rush these young guys! Someone who watches the Comets live might be able to answer this better... listening to the radio broadcasts online only gets you so far. Plus/minus isn't the most reliable stat, but when you're -18 that really stands out, especially when you compare it to guys like Andersson and Biega who have comfortable pluses.
  4. You're welcome! I feel the same way, our prospect pool is the most promising it's been in a long, long time. Maybe ever, considering our historic shoddy drafting. I'm excited to hopefully see Jensen, Corrado, Grenier, Eriksson, Gaunce, Shinkaruk, Kenins, and Fox all together in the AHL next season (barring any of them cracking our lineup). Horvat will be an interesting case, as he's already very accomplished at the junior level and I'd love to see him get the nine-game look next season.
  5. if the Canucks do nothing at the deadline this year, I'll be okay with that. A rental or two won't solve this team's weaknesses.

Yeah, Booth is buyout material for sure. I don't know what people keep packaging him in trades, he's got negative trade value. We need all the youth we can get, and moving a few guys could help us secure some more.

I want to win as much as anyone, but with the core near/over their 30's it's important to start looking forward.

it reminds me of the end of the WCE era. Not that the Sedins are going anywhere but they can't be expected to carry the team. Looking back at 06-07ish, we traded Bert for Luo, added Mitchell, and starting bringing in guys like Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows, Hansen, and Edler. That's the kind of thing we need now.

  6. I'd like to know... it's like he's just disappeared off the face of the planet, doesn't appear to be playing anywhere. Very strange.
  7. For Andrew Ladd?? Ladd's good but he's in no way a first liner and Horvat has a higher ceiling than Ladd. Come on, Sportsnet.
  8. double post. Anyway, its nice to see Jensen finally picking up his play, and Grenier's continuing to have a solid season. Cole Cassels is also quietly picking it up again.
  9. All I'll say on Hodgson, is that at least we didn't trade him for Martin freakin' Erat.
  10. Hutton's been long-listed for the Hobey Baker Award! he's currently 4th in fan voting, and you can vote for him here: http://hobeybaker.com/awards/the-hobey-baker-memorial-award/vote
  11. he's had small streaks this year where he's shown what he's capable of but its not enough. If he could produce at a 0.5 ppg clip, I think that'd be satisfactory considering how erratic he's been, but not only is he not producing enough he's being plain outplayed by everybody around him. I'd rather have Dalpe/Archibald in the lineup than Booth at this point, and once Burrows is healthy (and Schroeder, down the line) there's no room for him anymore.
  12. Glad to hear you like the thread, Utica Fan! The Comets should get a definite boost next year with guys like Gaunce, Fox, and Kenins in the mix to crack the roster - not to mention that the bulk of the returning roster will have a year's experience of playing with each other and developing chemistry under their belt. An offensive spark from Jensen would go a long way towards helping Utica's offensive struggles... he's become quite the enigma though. I think Eriksson and Cannata will benefit greatly from having a year like this to toughen them up, but it sure would be nice if the Canucks could add another goalie in the draft for insurance.
  13. Definitely intrigued by the Fox add, can't wait to see what he and Gaunce can do in the playoffs for Erie! Shame about Shinkaruk's injury though. Anyway, post-Christmas break update:
  14. I'd love for him to get a year in the AHL first, but he's not eligible next season and he's not going to develop much more by playing another year in junior. He'll probably - he should - get his nine games at the beginning of the year to see if he can hold his own in the NHL.
  15. http://ontariohockeyleague.com/video/index/id/db3a0e6d191794e7341e0b3ea06aabea Gaunce's first goal is at 1:40, second one is right after. First was a gift of a tap-in, the second a nice wrister.
  16. He signed a two-year deal, so I don't think so - I'm not expert on SEL transfers/contract stuff though. Maybe after next season, who knows. In all likelihood it'll never happen but the Canucks would do well to at least inquire with the stats he's putting up.
  17. He'll have a couple of years to work that out in the AHL in all likelihood, I don't see him beating Horvat out for a spot at centre anytime soon. He'll also have to contend with Cole Cassels down the road. He'd be better off developing in the A for a little bit, where I think he'll play well considering how much more emphasis is placed on defense (his strong suit) in the AHL than in the offensive free-for-all of major junior, his defensive game is far ahead of his peers right now.
