  1. So Gaunce and Subban are pretty funny together Unless Gaunce makes the Canucks, I hope both of them can team up and lead Belleville on a good run in the OHL playoffs.
  2. It's that time of year again... to watch the Youngstars games during my lectures.

  4. wouldn't mind signing Colten Teubert as a younger, cheaper Alberts. even if we all remember him for getting KO'd by Adam Polasek.

Fistric too, I like the idea of having an extra big body on defence.

  5. rejoice, CDC. Weber is finally a Canuck.

He's an undersized defenseman. He's got a nice last name but I gotta say, I'm worried about him panning out. Why didn't Gillis pick Zachary Yuen from the 2012 draft?

2 steals with him and Shinkaruk! great draft year!

      stonecoldstevebernier

His offensive skills alone should grant him a chance, even if his defensive game is somewhat lacking... but as far as 4th round picks go, I have to think this has a better chance of panning out than most.

  8. Horvat and Shinkaruk, along with Gaunce, all got invites to Canada's WJC camp - I can't wait to see these guys in either a Canucks' uniform or Team Canada's.

it's all in the way they play. Horvat and Shinkaruk have great compete levels.

Yeah, they are good I'm just saying that small young players don't make it into the nhl as fast unless they are really good.

      stonecoldstevebernier

Well, we'll just have to wait and see in camp! Barely any of us have seen either play extensively, but I'm just glad we've added some solid offensive prospects.

  9. Love the pick, the trade could've been better though. But Horvat is the real deal, he was the definition of clutch for London in the playoffs, exactly the kind of player we need to progress. With Horvat and Gaunce on board, our future at centre ice looks a lot more promising.
  10. this is the only day of the year I look forward to hearing Gary Bettman speak.

  11. That was hilarious, gotta love the Hawks collectively slapping the entire Bruins' fanbase in the face.

  12. All the people that think S.Gill is the real S.Gill are pretty stupid. He even admited on CDC Status Updates that it isnt him and it is someone else!

  13. in a hypothetical trade with PHI - would you rather get Brayden Schenn or Sean Couturier?

    1. naslund.is.king

      naslund.is.king

No question Sean leave the Schenn brothers together

    2. stonecoldstevebernier

      stonecoldstevebernier

I don't think you can go wrong either way, but Couturier's all-around game is definitely better.

    3. Baka

      Baka

Both are supposed to be two way forwards. Couturier better defensively. Schenn better offensively as well as faster and a harder hitter.

IMO as a Flyers fan I consider Schenn the better prospect.

  14. What an awful call. I am by no means a Hawks fan, but I know I'd be steamed if that happened against us.

  15. What a shame. But not a total surprise given his lack of results in North America and the injuries he sustained here. Our prospect pool has definitely started to sag even further with the departures of Connauton and Rodin (not that they were contenders for roster spots, but it looks worse on the organization when you take a look at their drafting record now).
  16. Nice article by Jim Jamieson on Gaunce and his chances of making the team next year: http://www.theprovince.com/sports/hockey/canucks-hockey/Jamieson+Gillis+says+prospect+Gaunce+will/8427701/story.html His footspeed did not seem like much of an issue this season in the OHL, but it is a huge leap to the NHL level. Its great to hear that he's working with Gary Roberts though, plus being around other NHLers in the offseason can only help his progression. He's got a full three months of training and it doesn't sound like he's taken much time off so that can only be good.
  17. Actually he said Schroeder had successful surgery, and that he'll be back for camp, which is a good thing. Lots of time for rehab.
  18. I'd love to see a Burrows-Gaunce-Hansen line actually, that'd be a fantastic mix of checking and scoring. I hope MG's emphasis on bringing in younger players means Gaunce will be given a few games at the start of the season to prove himself, at the very least. Of course, he has to earn it in camp first, it won't be handed to him simply because he probably has to compete with Schroeder who is more experienced.
  19. Is MG really pulling the "shortened season" excuse?? Last time I checked every team played 48 games.

with virtually no training camp no practices and a few key injuries the canucks had to change their style of play. not an excuse it was reality.

Ottawa missed Spezza and Karlsson almost the entire year and they're doing just fine. What Ghosts said, you have to adapt to the situation.

  20. Any chance we can pry Eriksson out of Dallas? 3 games at WHCs, Sedins + Eriksson have generated 7 of Sweden's 9 goals.

  21. Are the NDP going to blame this one on the refs?

  22. Best case scenario: Franson one times it from the point, it hits Marchand in the mouth and deflects in for the hat trick.

  23. Exactly. Grabner wasn't good enough defensively, Hodgson was too slow, and now Schroeder is too small. Even though he's the same size as he was in his draft year, when people lauded him as a steal. Fans have to understand that we're not picking in the top 5, our prospects are going to take time to improve. Schroeder is 22, the same age as Grabner was when he first played for us. Plus, after he was sent down to the AHL, he responded very well. 14 points in 12 games compared to 19 points in his 30 games before getting called up. And he was doing it with an injured shoulder too. I wonder what we'll be saying about Gaunce if he doesn't instantly make the team?
  24. 2 years, $2 million? I can't see him getting much more than that, could be less. 9 points in 31 games doesn't earn him a whole lot, but I'm guessing it'll be short term as he's projected to improve upon those numbers and in a few years he'll be worth more. Maybe $900k in the first year, $1.1m in the second year. His qualifying offer has to be a minimum of $850,500 so it'll be higher than that at least.
  25. No wonder we lost. Saniel Dedin disappeared in the playoffs. :(
