Kudos to the Canada Men's National Basketball Team for qualifying for the Olympics, sure hope they can break the drought our country has had in this sport

Loving the forward group with this Suter signing. Could have quite the solid group
96 - 40 - 72
65 - 9 - 6 (hope 21/ 92 can be LW)
21? - Suter - 92? (65 on a wing?)
70? - Blueger - 81
Not sure where 8 fits anymore tho -
Love that Vancouver's having more summer events, but the entry fees are ridiculous IMO. $9 just to get in a "BBT festival"/ night market, $20 for Latin Fest? When all the food etc. cost extra? This city's so pricey now

Anyone who caught Covid before, how long did it take for your sense of taste to come back?

@Ghostsof1915 I tested positive over the past weekend
@Citizen Erased yeah I was really fatigued too, slept two full days then got better thankfully.
@Eddie ah I see; do you know how did they/ you recover it? Food tastes so bland this week and I love food so really hoping it's not permanent.

If the Canucks aren't able to open up cap space by the RFA signing deadline, does Kravtsov by default become un-qualified and thus an UFA? Or can we qualify him without cap space?
-
The latter. The QO is due early July - it's just to retain a players rights and doesn't guarantee that he signs a contract or makes the roster. He's going abroad so he'll probably just pass on signing a deal. Vancouver retained Tryamkin's rights by qualifying him when he decided to leave - had no incidence on their cap situation.

What a first round of the playoffs! BOTH Stanley Cup finalists AND the President's Trophy winners getting knocked out. Who is everyone rooting for?
-
Which team is everyone's TDL winner?
Mine are NJ (added Meier while barely denting their futures, also added Lazar for depth) and Nashville (5 picks and Foote for Jeannot, sold really high on Ekholm and Granlund while picking up serviceable guys for cheap). HM to Minnesota and Winnipeg for smart moves around the edges.-
Canucks, of course! Getting a nice haul from the Islanders, getting a Top 6 winger with speed and size in Kravtsov, and a very promising C prospect in Raty. Beauvillier meshes so well with Petey and Kuzmenko. They pulled in another 3rd and two 4ths, and got a 25-year old Top 4 RD with a bomb for a shot.

[POLL] Knowing both players' contracts, would YOU rather we had kept Bo or Miller?
-
How are the fine folks of CDC spending the winter evenings with no games on/ during the extended ASG break?
-
What is everyone's favorite Horvat Canucks moment?
-
The initials for "J.T." in Miller's name need to stand for Just Trade. The man's an $8 million hypocrite (pretending to get pissed off on the 4-2 goal, then turn over the puck down a goal and stop skating).
-
Some times players see the play better than us. The puck deflected quite far ahead of him, and as a player he knows how fast the puck can transition up the ice with passes, so he knew instinctively he would never catch up and he doesn't skate like an idiot for it.
Gonna get flamed for defending this lol. But just trying to be objective lol...
-
Fair enough, though it's not a good look when it's clearly not your first time, you're going to be the priciest guy on the team cap hit wise, and other stars like Petey don't stop skating in the same situation. If he's a leader he ought to put his money where his mouth is (act pissed, then play pissed and determined).

For those who've watched his teams, what impact would you expect him to have if/ when he's named coach here?
According to THG's video on Tocchet, it seems like he's like Boudreau, able to bring the best out of their guys (helped Stamkos' development, brought the Coyotes to the play-in). -
Would you look at that. Where was this fight all season?? (giving up leads is fine, but this ability to scrap back would've resulted in a much better season so far)
-
For those who watched it, would you rather live through Squid Game or Alice in Borderlands as a contestant, and why?
-
I guess so, so you'd outright playing for your life (with the potential for money) than fighting as a second chance of survival? @Neil HD

I'm low-key hoping the World Cup final will be between Morocco and Croatia, that way Canada could say they lost to the champs.

@Bob.Loblaw agreed lol, just a way to give Canada some shine

In this American Thanksgiving weekend, I'm glad the Canucks have Martin, Dries, Schenn, Kuzmenko and Aman.
For less than $1 million each, we have our (current) top goalie, top RHD, 3rd line C, a top-6 W and solid 4th line C. -
Anyone keep tabs on how OEL-Poolman and Burroughs-Myers pairings did last night? (Good fits and individual play)
- Show previous comments 1 more

Burroughs was okay and Myers kind of let him down yesterday.
Poolman was very solid last night. His best pre-season game so far by a mile, which isn't saying too much. He skated well, made some nice defensive plays and joined the rush a few times. I can think of one mistake that he made in the first period, otherwise he was strong.

For the Fantasy Hockey players out there, how much time do you guys normally spend on it? Wondering if I should join a daily league but curious about the time commitment; thanks!

Thanks guys, good to hear that it's only a couple minutes to set the roster and add/ drop players. @Master Mind @Devron thanks guys for the suggestions to join something on here, but I think I'll start with this one to see how it goes (haven't done one for more than 10 years now).

Not to be cold or insensitive at this time, but I want to know why some people cry at a famous person's passing (besides sentiments of loss/ shock) when they haven't met them before. I guess the usual virtue signaling e.g., from posting IG stories in their memory is normal, I don't understand the sadness.
If this is you, could you provide some reasons behind the tearing up? (e.g., anecdotes/ if they meant something to you personally/ significant moments e.g. meeting them); thanks, and RIP Queen E.- Show previous comments 4 more

I also think that family history plays a big part. One of my colleagues has aging parents with Scottish lineage so she places huge value on the Monarchy and Scottish tradition, plays in pipe band and even went to London this year to pipe for the Queen's Jubilee. She's really devastated. The fact that it's a reminder of her own parents mortality is also a factor I'm sure.
-
I was 10 when Elvis died. I couldn't figure out the devastation among people. But a few years later when John Lennon was murdered that cut deep because I loved his music. You don't have to personally know someone to have empathy. The Queen was one of those institutions that despite the topsy-turvy world, it was unchanging. If something happened tomorrow to Elon Musk. I wouldn't care. Because I assume the company might be shocked and his fanboys might go into mourning. But the companies would carry on. But I don't criticize others for feeling compassion and sympathy. Hell I burst into tears when I saw a baby cub who survived a forest fire, with his paws all singed. (That I chalked up to months of Covid stuff, and I needed an emotional release.)

How's everyone kept cool over the past couple days of heat wave?

@VancouverHabitant, sunnies are sunglasses. I have more than a few pairs.
-
So curious to see who JR/ PA sign and who they trade tomorrow.
Hoping for both Nicholas Meloche and Haydn Fleury for bottom-pair spots, and maybe Aube-Kubel (price dependent), Lemieux (grit and some skill) and Stenlund (big RH C) [though I'd welcome Lammikko and Highmore too].-
@Devron he's working on getting the drafts for the signing threads lined up as we speak

Can already see it now, "Pettersson from the point, passing to Pettersson on the right wing boards, with a one-timer; Elias Pettersson scores from Elias Pettersson!!" Good luck keeping up commentators.
