  1. Instead of simply critiquing and pointing out issues, what has been your contribution? All you've done in your past 3 replies is point out shortcomings and give two-word, non-elaborated responses that provide nothing to the discussion. If Coach Green had your mentality the team's packing its bags by Friday.
  2. I'd agree that in terms of velocity and the shooter's conviction in leaning into the shot, Miller's ahead of Boeser at this time. The power play has had some success with Miller on the left block, I'll acknowledge that much. However, even present statistics can become a thing of the past if they can't evolve with the times and overcome the hurdles presented. Just like the Sedin cycle, I don't think it's too unreasonable to mix up the elements to keep the defense on their toes. For instance, you see how the Blues have Perron on both the left wall (as a one-time shooter) and on the right (as a threat to either shoot or pass back to Pietrangelo)? Players are versatile and fresh looks can sometimes be what's needed to generate new success. I'm not saying EVERY possession has to have Brock back in that point spot but keeping that possibility in the back pocket would again leave the option for more one-timers from different areas which could result in different bounces and tips, which could help collapse the Blues PK. Instead, in the final PK of the game, Miller and Hughes were literally hammering shots into Blues' skates as they knew that the PP had to get the puck on net and they had Pete's one-timer covered. In situations like this, is it not time to at least tinker with the wheel, even if they aren't reinventing it? I also disagree that he would find success in the 2nd unit which is more of a dump-and-chase group with Gaudette out. Unless he's the fourth forward at the point next to Edler for one-timers, again I'm not sure whether mucking down low is really his game, especially alongside grinders like Pearson, Sutter and Roussel.
  3. I feel like he's been misused as a power play weapon. Like Ovie, Laine and Stamkos his success initially came from that left dot, but his current placement behind the net is not using his strengths, nor is it helping the team direct pucks to the net. The current setup with him in front of the net (ultimately to the side of it) doesn't work as he's not one to set screens and try for tips or jam the net, and while he's technically a passing "option", Bo the bumper in front is clearly double-teamed to prevent the one-timer. With that Brock has to resort to banking it off the wall to Miller and/ or Hughes which is all the way along the half wall or blue-line, but they never get to attack the danger zone areas right in the middle of the Blues' diamond setup. The only current shooting threats are Quinn and Miller up top, and even Pete's one-timer is looking more predictable as there's no one-time threat to Quinn's left, while everyone can home in on Miller or Hughes if they're just attacking in isolation from a distance. My question would be, if coach knows what Brock's skills are (one-timer, snipe), and what Miller's skills are (tips, plus he has size to battle and the hands to work in tight), then would he not be flexible enough to establish the triangle up top, and put Miller and Horvat as bumper and net-presence respectively? That would generate two sections of attack (down-low with Miller and Bo, plus both can tip and jam for pucks) and three one-timer options up top. Quinn / \ Pete <-----> Brock Miller Horvat Allen It's up to you coach. Don't let your vaunted power play, your bread and butter which is probably the way to get back into the series, go stale.
  4. Feeling hopeful still that the rest could be what the kids need in such a grueling series. Even against the Wild they eventually figured out the necessary jam plays to beat the Wild goalie and defensive structure (which I'd say we saw more of as the kids passed around the outside). That plus change up the power play formation (put Boeser opposite of Pete on the left to re-establish the umbrella and one-time options, Miller as bumper and Bo to retrieve pucks and attack the net).
  5. All I want for Christmas... is someone to knock him hard on his @$$ or through the glass. Or both.
  6. After last game they shouldn't get jack. Like come on Bozak, if you're going to drill guys from behind and get away with it, what's a pansy stick check. Suck it up princess.
  7. There's quite a few RHD prospects out there in this draft. I think someone like Michael Krutil (https://thehockeywriters.com/michael-krutil-2020-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/) would be great as a defense-first but effective passer with size and mobility. Someone like him who may have slipped in rankings due to injury but who has potential is someone that I'd want next to Hughes, hopefully to fill in a Brandon Carlo mold.
  8. Glad that Sutter, Beagle, Roussel and Myers are playing important depth roles such that the team may look to keep them after all. If the team still wants to trade Loui after his shutdown line play, can bundle him and Jake to Detroit/ Ottawa/ NJ for next to nothing. That plus Ferland coming off the books due to retirement and maybe not re-signing Toffoli and we're good to go. Miller - Pete - Brock Pearson - Bo - Gaudette Roussel - Sutter - Leivo (quality 3rd line, Leivo does a bit of everything and can be play-maker) Motte - Beagle - MacEwen
  9. Yzerman's big on big Mo Seider, doubt they would trade him when they reached in the draft to pick him. Some fanalysts say he could be in their top 4 as soon as next season seeing how they're bare besides Hronek on RD.
  10. Exactly. I'm glad Beagle jumped in and, bad penalty aside, he stood up and fed the guy who hit Sutter. With this awful reffing the pack mentality is definitely needed.
  11. First let me get it out of the way that they have Kahkonen who's at least projected to be comparable to Demko so he won't be an asset in deals with them. Seeing how above people have been saying that Ek is Koivu's replacement, could definitely see why they wouldn't want to trade him (grinding 1st round pick center who's starting to score); if they don't accept this trade I'd totally understand. That being said, - if the team finds a taker for Loui, - if Ferland retires, and - the team realizes that Toffoli is more of an expensive luxury rather than a primary piece to their contention like Marky and Tanev are, Then I'd be totally fine to keep Gaudette for Bo's wing and try him in a top-6 offensive role. Could do worse than for him to learn from the best face-off men, then maybe run this as next year's lineup (presuming Jake is Loui's sweetener and with no external additions): Miller - Pete - Brock Pearson - Bo - Gaudette Roussel - Sutter - Zack/ Lind (I like Kole in this spot for his play-making ability, so that the 3rd line isn't just crash-and-bang) Motte - Beagle - Lind/ Zack
  12. So true about him smashing Perron through the glass. Also, seeing how we're the home team the next two games, Perron better get a double minor for roughing the glass and delay of game.
  13. If they could teach him to win draws that would be fantastic. He's actually not that small at 6'1", 185 lbs so it's not like he doesn't have the potential to develop that skill. It's just reactionary to the fact that Sutter's basically come in and stolen his spot.
  14. Yeah such a joke. In any other playoff series of Beagle didn't jump in he'd be called soft and not coming to his teammate's defence -- yet in this case HE got the extra penalty? FFS. Same with previous "rules" about not hitting guys in the numbers or clipping guys in the face (guess the league's measuring stick is skewed if not broken), yet clearly that doesn't apply to us. Still glad the good guys won and the Blues can grab a straw and suck it.
  15. Watching the Blues' stream online, dang so many homer calls by Darren Pang. No calls by ref: Pang: "ooh that's a trip", "he got brought down..." You're not paid to be a homer buddy.
  16. Could there be interest between the Wild and Leafs? (not looking to jack the thread) One of the Leafs' top C's for a top D e.g. Spurgeon, Foligno (grinding winger) + a 2021 1st? Doubt they'd let Kaprizov go in a package since they need youth too.
  17. It's comparable to, would the Jackets trade Dubois (their top center) for Tavares (the Leafs' captain and one of two top centers) and vice versa? The Leafs are soft as butter and unable to beat the blue collar Jackets, big part due to Dubois. As much as they would probably want to become more offensive it's questionable as to J.T. would fit and bring as much as P-L-D does.
  18. Does he fit their grinding mentality though? Besides Eberle and Barzal most of their lines are grit and grind type players (Nelson, Pageau, Lee...) so maybe they'll play him on the wing? It also depends if we're down to have Sutter as the #3 Center full-time, and can afford to trade the cheaper Gaudette. If Wilde's all that he's made out to be though, would be great to get him (Mayfield would be great next to Quinn but again need to be realistic as to whether the Isles would want Gaud for their #3 D man)
  19. Haha we have plenty of wings. Give me Bouchard or Bear and 2nd and we'll talk. But even that convo would be Benning going "hmm... no" and hanging up.
  20. Predators have had trouble scoring. Why would they trade Arvidsson who's on a good deal for Virtanen? Jake's been super inconsistent. Could see them moving Rinne? But going with two developing young goalies could be trouble (Demko is probably the better of the two, Saros did not look good in play-in's); maybe take out the wingers and make the swap with the remaining guys?
  21. Out of the list OP made, Wilde seems the most attainable (Dobson's blue chip, Foote will probably be used as a sweetener in case they need to dump anyone, which I doubt they do; Lundkvist is offensively minded, but we don't really need more rovers IMO; if the Habs won't trade young D then Juulsen's probably off the table). I'd go for Haydn Fleury from Carolina (someone else before had suggested him for a slumping Virtanen), who wouldn't be playing if Pesce and Vatanen weren't out. Defensively minded and a right-side guy, he can probably make an impact if he's mobile and smart enough to play stable. Regarding drafting, I agree with the poster above who said we should draft and develop our own right side impact D. Now though the team only has a 3rd rounder as its earliest pick, there's some good prospects out there in that range (https://thehockeywriters.com/2020-nhl-draft-final-rankings-defencemen/ e.g. Krutil looks good upon brief browsing at his info, I'm sure there's others if we spend 3-4 of our picks at least on RHD).
  22. I'd MAYBE trade Podkolzin for someone like Dobson. Both these guys will command too much money to retain the core tho
  23. Too much. Esp. in the cap era, top picks' prices are always prohibitively exorbitant (ELC's are basically gold nowadays). Possibly young, established roster player and next year's high pick or top prospect. If we want a Brandon Carlo I feel like we could easily get one with the 3rd rounder we have for this year, no need to trade prime assets.
