  1. Curious, who would you have signed for the same amount of money under the same circumstances? Keep in mind, players can decide where they want to go and the team needed to fill the vacuum of veterans and toughness. J.V.R. signed for $7 mil/ per, heck even Ryan Reaves got $2.75 mil/ per and an old Vanek got $3 mil from Detroit (Bozak signed for $5 mil). If Vlad Namestnikov got $4 mil and Tim Schaller got $1.9, maybe it's just a trend for that year that there were major overpayments being handed out like candy. Unless you wanted a softy in Blake Comeau for $800k who doesn't bring nearly the same in actual play vs. shootouts, we might've been in tough to do any better.
  2. If we get Alexis LaFranchisePlayer, a cost-controlled Severson AND shed Loui (and maybe luck out with the 4th rd pick), Benning would look like a genius. The only move I want to see less is the 2nd one (Ty Smith is another left side D-man I think, Zacha's underachieving and the Isles' second may be later).
  3. You must be new here, let me fill you in on the typical protocol...
  4. Saw a similar move proposed by the New Jersey fan site (https://pucksandpitchforks.com/2020/07/11/new-jersey-devils-three-trade-packages-brock-boeser/2/) and it looks like they'd take even less in return (no 2nd, no Stecher, no Baertschi) Boeser for Severson and the Arizona 1st (position TBD). If they were willing to make such a move (and we could keep our 2nd and maybe flip Stecher for a 4th), I'd be down for that. (Just for interest, not looking to hijack the thread -- for us to get our 1st back, and they also give up Kevin Bahl and 4th, they would take Brock and Loui). I'd say not bad.
  5. KK I'll bite and put you out of your misery of not being answered. I guess they really liked what they saw (and/ or were desperate for winger help for Bo). Before Tanner Pearson, J.T. Miller or him (he did score 1/2 point per game in his season where he saw time with Bo), our left wings were Daniel (40 points), an aging Thomas Vanek (that we traded for Jokinen and Motte), Baertschi (when he was doing well with Bo, but I digress on why they demoted him), a 10-goal, 23 point Loui Eriksson (*puke*), Leipsic (who showed flashes of potential), and even Reid Boucher saw time up with the big club (5 points in 20 games...). Not exactly awe-inspiring, and so they probably felt the need to secure pieces and see where they fell into place instead of remaining scorched earth. When you're that deprived it's not surprising that they had to over-protect some vets in order to secure their services, though it sucks that it's those same vets handcuffing us for cap space and it may cost us one of our brightest young stars. Oh how the turntables.
  6. We don't need it either, and they won't do it. Brady and Chabot are the core of their future along with #3 and #5 if they draft with them.
  7. Are they as high on Klingberg as they are on Heiskanen? Wonder if Brock for John could be a swap
  8. Do the Preds even have any other right D with top-4 potential besides Ellis? They COULD use another scorer but their vaunted blue-line core would take a hit.
  9. Yes please. Alternatively I wonder if he or Roussel would be appealing to the Coyotes if they don't manage to re-sign Hall and if they can't bring in help seeing how they don't seem to be too high on many players' lists of destinations. Roussel also only has 5 teams on his no-go list.
  10. As much as that would be great for us, I don't think there's a fit on the Rangers? They have good(?) young guys like Chytil and others in their depth for cheap, and Sven's not dethroning either Kreider or Panarin on LW for top-6 minutes. Plus I wonder if they'd want to see if Lias can turn things around and not go the Seguin route of shooting themselves in the foot, esp. by trading a young but immature asset too early. I'd rather we ship out some depth prospects on the wings and LD and rid of guys like Beagle and Roussel (only 5 team no trade lists) and hopefully Baertschi. Sutter with a full season still looks tradeable to a contender.
  11. Breath's been held for at least that long... keeping my fingers crossed still!!
  12. The first paragraph seems to exactly be what's going on and yeah the ideas give me a headache on a Sunday morning lol. Gotta think though, re: the second paragraph, that in the life cycle of a team, it does appear that after the core pieces are established (Quinn, Pete, Bo and a goalie, Miller probably deserves a spot in the discussion too), then the other pieces are ultimately luxury, albeit important pieces. Teams like the Pens and Hawks have been cycling ELC wingers next to Sid, Geno and Toews after their big money deals, and so I wouldn't be surprised that someone like Brock or Tyler prices themselves out, esp. if a RHD can be brought in as mentioned. Sacrifices have to be made, and ultimately "it's a business".
  13. 1st, Dumba and the rights to Judd Brackett (with a no Benning influence clause).
  14. We're probably dark horse in the sense that Marky has shown he can catch fire with the best of them, as can our scorers, but I wonder how much this time off would help or hinder our collective defensive awareness. Part of the reason why I (and probably most of you guys) have had doubts was because this team was prone to defensive breakdowns against teams that can go right down Main Street and on Marky. Hopefully management has/ will make any moves they believe is necessary (e.g. splitting Fanta and Myers, shoring up the defensive scheme and running drills ad nauseaum to really have the system down pat in players' minds) and the players themselves are rested up so that they're more aware and alert vs. being occasionally sloppy due to physical or mental fatigue. On the flip side, the guys could also become lax and the systems become like a thing of the past since they're not applying it as consistently or readily with only practices and maybe tape? We'll have to see which D-core comes to play, and that could make a big difference.
  15. Considering how they only locked him up recently, it's far too soon for them to change their mind after an off year... I could see them going through what the Canucks have been going through as the Sedins and other vets' careers were ending. While they are good in trading, eventually no one's going to want their older, expensive vets and they won't have a Couture/ Pavelski waiting in the wings to take over roster spots (that was at least in part how they revamped so quickly last time), and if they flip their 1st that's just going to delay the inevitable. Then again I'm not Wilson or the Sharks so they can mess themselves up -- I mean retool on the fly -- all they want. Also no thanks to the $10 million Q.O. Boeser hopefully takes another discount with us if he hasn't already been flipped for defensive help.
  16. Curious about the sudden uptick in the Karen's and Ken's in the world nowadays...

they have always been there ,lurking in the shadows, much like the race issues going on , I have thought about this as well , I think trump has enabled all the idiots, like their all thinking he's got our back.  just a thought. when the maple leafs started winning , or I should say not losing as much,  there  was an up tick  of leaf trolls on this very site . similarities.

These are strange times we are living through and it is hard enough for the well balanced of us, never mind those souls with different conditions to deal with.We are unfortunately tied to the USA and we are bombarded with terrible story after terrible story so,we need to slow down and try and survive first and foremost.

Human kind is always hopeful that's what helps in times like these,a bit of kindness goes a long way.A kind word can build someone up,instead main stream media stories are all doom and gloom.Let's all try to just be safe and kind and calm as Dr. Bonnie would say,it hasn't hurt anyone.

      Ghostsof1915

Decades of people going through life without any major disruptions. Then a virus comes along that doesn't care what your politics are, how rich you are, or what kind of fame you have. When people who have been given everything on a silver platter. Suddenly life says no to things. We see how entitled, little brats are running around.

  17. Nothing wrong with a tweener (at worst)/ top-6 caliber player who we bought low on, later finding his form and helping the captain solidify a shutdown unit while also having a resurgence offensively. Found money is money still. Now if Pearson does get traded, will the top-6 Sven Baertschi please stand up. If we don't find a buyer we could have an in-house replacement esp. if he's motivated and healthy to prove doubters wrong.
  18. I'm curious, how good would Keith and Giordano be in 2 years? Both will be 38. I could also see them possibly drawing on horses like Chabot (big money for a big time guy), Brodie (been a solid and mobile D-man for years) or Morrissey (he did well as the lone star on the blue-line in Winnipeg, with Myers signing with us, Buffy walking and Trouba now in NYR).
  19. That Rielly - Hamilton pair would probably get torched in their own end
  20. 1. I picked the Isles. While they're perpetual underdogs I started liking their team since last season when they took down the dynamo Pittsburgh Penguins. I think they actually have an underrated core (Barzal's a current all-star of course, but guys like Eberle, Bailey, Lee, Nelson, etc, defenders in Pulock/ Leddy, and Varlamov in goal aren't really top names) and much of the credit goes to coach Barry Trotz, who took some guys who aren't full-fledged stars but shaped a team and effective lines. After getting shafted by J.T. when he left for Toronto, the group was better than everyone expected, and I think for such a resilient franchise and effective coach they deserve to get another elite shiny new toy. HM: Columbus (similar reason, I like underdogs, but after how they left guys like Nash, etc. wanting out, gotta wonder if there's something conducive to them ruining their chances with stars); Montreal (it would be nice to give the Francophone superstar but, meh) 2. Edmonton/ Toronto. No explanation needed. 3. I hope we lose the play-in and get #1. Playoff-type experience but also getting long-term reward with the mega-prospect. 4. I like it if we get #1, change if we don't I don't really care lol
  21. If we're centralizing everything draft lottery related, could you make and embed a poll for which team (if we can't pick Vancouver) we would want most and least (separately) to have win the 1 OA pick? Wouldn't want to put in all the effort just to have it locked.
  22. Weird not having FA Frenzy/ Canada Day celly's today

  23. Haha maybe I misunderstood what the grumpy emoji meant on your part.
  24. That's his AVERAGE annual value (AAV) since his cap hit was front loaded ($8 million per in first 2 seasons).
