  1. 3 way trade? Lol long winded but I hope it happens BUF trades Lyubushkin to ANA for 4th BUF trades 4th for to VAN for Myers VAN trades 4th to ANA for Lyubushkin
  2. Seems like the Sharks view Bystedt as likely their 2nd best prospect, behind Eklund. If they want Lekkerimaki in order to build through the wing more I'd definitely say yes so we can bolster our center position, but the Sharks might want to keep him to see how he fares as a center prospect alongside Bordeleau, Smith and Eklund (since none of them are guarantees and they need guys to replace Hertl and Couture in the future, plus he was a Grier pick so there might be some inclination to keep him). Rathbone might be of interest as a buy-low puck-moving D, since besides Thrun they don't really have a mobile puck-moving D to run the PP (most of their guys are defensive), but with their signings of Duclair, Zadina and the integration of Eklund/ Bordeleau I'm not sure how Hoglander adds too much, since he's also smallish. Adding an RHD prospect could be useful, but with how admittedly limited my perspective of these Sharks guys are and how good Rathbone/ Hoglander could become by next season, it's tough to tell if it's even or if either team is getting a bargain. I'd say yes to it if in IRL Allvin received this proposal and accepted it.
  3. We need a full on 21 "May Day" salute for him, one of the most entertaining commentators in the show. RIP.
  4. Could he become a next Nils Aman? If yes then I'd say take a shot (though how come his scoring dropped in his 3rd season at Cornell?).
  5. Nemec, Siegenthaler, Schmid and 1st. The two D-men will account for the majority of Quinn's value, as a blue chip RHD star prospect and a top-pair shutdown LD on a quality contract (to take Quinn's spot on the roster) respectively. I would like to see us get Akira to take the backup spot if for the foreseeable future, since as good as Silovs is, it shouldn't be a given that he'll be a backup at the NHL level just yet. Lastly the first will hopefully be in a later year so their team isn't quite the contender.
  6. They really just need to draft or find a top 6 C (or unearth the one that may exist in Zacha). With elite wingers, D and goalies, there may be enough of a system around to buffer that lack of center depth (or at worst they'll be poor man's versions of where the Vegas Knights were with Stephenson and Karlsson, before Eichel arrived).

    Captaincy

Honestly, if Pearson was healthy I'd give it to him. The rest of the guys are just too new to the team. Nope: Boeser (just rebounding from his dad's situation affecting last season, he doesn't need to take the mental beating); Miller (emotional leader but can't calm the ship); Garland/ Myers (too often the target of trades due to overpay, might not be best for them to take on captain's duties too); Joshua/ Aman (purely depth) Too new: Kuzmenko (working on his English), Mikheyev (IR last year), Beauvillier/ Hronek/ Soucy/ Cole/ Blueger/ Suter (all too new to the team), Hoglander/ Podkolzin/ Hirose (for obvious reasons, the kids aren't ready to play a major role, let alone be captain) Candidates: (if they start with A's and then he gets healthy and stays in for awhile) Pearson - veteran, got championship pedigree, responsible and productive; Hughes (hopefully he's more vocal now, he was pretty shy as a youngster but he definitely lets his play do the talking); Petey (leader, fiery and can score)
  8. I really hope Hoglander earns a spot in PDG's (and Beau's) place. Best case scenario, all the waiver-eligible, young players with upside are in the lineup, we find a trade for Beauvillier that lets us get good value and if Pearson is healthy he can take Aman's spot on the wing.
  9. My ideal lineup: Kuzmenko - Petey - Beauvillier Hoglander - Miller - Boeser (hopefully Hoglander can start to realize his energetic scoring winger upside) Pearson - Suter - Mikheyev (defense, size, speed and some scoring would make this a tough line to match up against) Joshua - Blueger - Podkolzin (sucks to see Pods in a defensive oriented role, but his linemates can score some too and they'd be strong defensively and physically)
  10. Loving the forward group with this Suter signing.  Could have quite the solid group

    96 - 40 - 72
    65 - 9 - 6 (hope 21/ 92 can be LW)
    21? - Suter - 92? (65 on a wing?)
    70? - Blueger - 81

Not sure where 8 fits anymore tho

      Sign Kassian to a PTO.

  11. Good to not see any Barbie reviews in here Oppenheimer - watched this without knowing the plot earlier, and yet I was captivated by the mix of storytelling, visuals/ SFX and the integration of different plot lines to create a compelling narrative for an enigmatic and divisive figure. Readily a 9/10, maybe even a 10 (enjoyed it more than MI7, which was pretty strong of a summer blockbuster).
  12. Because it's the dog days of the offseason (and because JT Miller's "no-good, all-bad, albatross" deal is about to start), I thought it'd be fun to have a ranking/ discussion. Premise is simple: based on any mix of factors (player age, term length, clauses involved, injury history, player's ability to come close to meeting contract expectations... or not, etc.; have fun with it!), rank the following players on their likelihood of living up to the contract they've signed. Jonathan Huberdeau (30 years old, $10.5 million AAV until 2031, full NMC) Bo Horvat (28 years old, $8.5 million AAV until 2031, modified or full NTC throughout) JT Miller (30 years old, $8 million AAV until 2030, NMC throughout) Tom Wilson (29 years old, $6.5 AAV until 2031, modified NTC throughout) I would personally rank them Miller (1 less year of term, plus his durability so far gives me hope that with his conditioning he can remain pretty productive into his 30s) > Horvat (he may not score as much as Huberdeau but his faceoff ability and durability give him a safe floor to at least contribute in defensive duties) > Huberdeau (it's a toss-up between him and Horvat, as his scoring upside is higher but he's also older and costs more, so he probably has fewer prime years ahead with strong offense to live up to expectation) > Wilson (can't see his PF game being sustainable given the physical toll it takes on him); curious to hear your rankings and reasoning! (Also feel free to add players with similar age and term that I may have missed)
  13. In a sense I agree with you, in that if Hoglander is the guy who emerges at the top of the pile we ought to put him in a position to succeed. From a business asset management perspective though, I think with a "yes, and" perspective (yes, we should help whoever comes out on top to succeed, and as a franchise the team needs to utilize the value of said asset, e.g. when Hodgson was here and taking off but the management thought the team was too soft, the approach was to put him in positions to succeed [i.e. score a bunch so we could trade him to Buffalo] so we could get the asset that, on paper, they believed was the solution in Kassian; in this case, if Hoglander proves to be the #1 LW, we can put Beauvillier on the 1st PP to turn him into an asset). An equivalent example would probably be Hronek in Detroit -- before his trade, he was putting up career highs in scoring even though Seider played more minutes. However, their coach put Hronek in a position to succeed so they can trade him for our 1st and another pick, since they didn't want to pay him, but we had a place for him on our roster. Hronek fit on their #1 PP and helped them win, and in doing so his trade value went up, not just getting pumped up artificially (i.e. he was another skilled player who wasn't out of place or forced into a role). In that regard, it's evident it's not chicken or the egg if the deployment is managed properly (a.k.a. if Beau flourishes in a top role with management wanting to boost his value to trade him, I think Hoglander shouldn't be viewed as being on the backburner but management can find roles for Beau without impeding Hoglander's development). Good thoughts on your end too.
  14. If we know that he's become a microwave scorer capable of getting hot for stretches but incapable of holding it down permanently (as he's shown both in NYI and here), why not inflate his value and then trade him when he's a pending UFA? Contenders look for cheap, short contracts to fill depth spots, and if we can convince one that he's a depth scoring option while he's here, if he falls off after he's gone he's no longer our problem and we leave with a fleecing of a trade. I personally don't believe he has it in him to earn that top LW role permanently, so we'll also disagree on the likelihood of him turning it around, but would rather see him get moved out for max value when freeing up to $4.15 million and a top-6 spot would be greatly beneficial to other candidates (e.g. Podkolzin, Boeser, Garland, Hoglander).
  15. If we can build up Beau's value by playing him next to EP again and then trade him for a return like this as a pending UFA, I would be ecstatic. That being said, before his trade here, in NY he was struggling to hold onto a top line spot due to offensive inconsistency and here he succeeded next to offensively capable linemates, so he's likely not a good fit next to defensive guys like you'd have him slotted into (if he made it into their top-6 that would be a different story). Get him off to a hot start here and Pittsburgh has a scoring need, plus their D pans out as OP laid it out, and Bob's your uncle. Rutta would be the exact type of player to target IMO, since he's buried behind Letang and Petry on the RD side so he won't have a chance to play major minutes, and if the Pens have a cheaper replacement for him and need to do roster surgery to upgrade, I could see him as a movable asset (low cost RHD who might be a bit underpaid given his body of work).
  16. Lucky her, Myers' long limbs on anyone else would've been a serious flight risk... in his case he'll just trip all over himself. GG Giraffe.
  17. I'd probably do this TBH. Trade Myers later, dump Garland and ensure we have enough room to lock up both Petey and Pesce long term. With major adds like Pesce we probably contend if the rest of the cap is managed wisely. such that losing a LATE 2024 1st won't be too big of a deal.
  18. Agreed about Aman, just not sure I understand the love for him, he's probably the next Lammikko nothing burger. With Suter still around, if his ask is not too excessive I'd love it if we could take a shot on him. Boeser I'd personally want to see get another chance, family circumstances and all, but I find it hard to believe in Beauvillier, he's rarely been consistent, and if there was no sweetener needed (like in the Hall trade) I'd love to send him to Chicago and let someone like Podkolzin or Hoglander get bigger roles.
  19. That decade old salt's getting a little stale now, don'tcha think?
  20. The ghost of Alex Semin's career -- it was seen smiling and nodding in approval at this tribute to his fight against Marc Staal.
  21. Always thought his wrist became a problem after he got injured and he was playing gingerly to avoid aggravating it? In any case, even if he's not a sniper but a net positive two-way force in the mold of a Sam Reinhart (Jack of all trades, 60+ point, 30+ goal scorer, plays both PP and PK and also strong at playmaking) I think we'd have a very strong asset on our hands, like we always knew he was. Building around him, Petey, Miller and Kuzmenko up front makes for a very strong foundation in my books.
