  1. He's kind of a left handed Poolman -- defense first and a shot blocking machine but there won't be much in terms of points.
  2. I have to think that the Canucks' D should at least be on par with the Oilers'. Sure Nurse is looking like a solid all-round left D and he and Barrie's stats would've been helped by playing with 97 and 29, but I think our depth is at least on par if not better than theirs (Keith/ Ceci/ Bouchard/ Russell vs. OEL/ Poolman/ Myers/ Rathbone or Juolevi). Of course if Hughes still tries to do too much out there he could be error prone, but if they find the right RD partner for him in either Schenn or Hamonic, or OEL's pair can eat up the tough minutes, then we could deploy Hughes in an offensive role and that can reduce any chance of defensive lapses. In short, if they can find the right combos with the pieces available this team can be stronger than expected.
  3. Who's everyone's early pick for unsung hero for the Canucks in the upcoming season?

@Bure_Pavel Hoggy would be huge.  If he drops down to 3rd line then I would be happy with even a 30 point season, but more important then points will be his overall game.  He could form a great posession line with Dickinson and Highmore/Podkolzin that we can throw out there against one of the other team's top two lines.
If he's given a chance with Bo and Garland, then I'd expect a few more points out of him.

@hammertime his 50th goal next season will be commemorated with a custom The Flow t-shirt ;)

  4. Presuming we go best on best, it'd probably be the Oilers or Islanders from the 80's vs. the most recent Lightning squads. Ultimately I think the current day NHL squad comes out on top. Forwards: I think the current day snipers could pick apart the smaller goalies, esp. since their defenses would be more permissive of the current forwards' advances. Defense: Hedman (6'6"), Cernak (6'3"), Sergachev (6'3") and McDonagh (6'1") would clean out the 80s skaters who would be used to going coast to coast. Of course the Semenkos and others of the past would stand up for their stars but current day defensemen are really no slouch. Goaltending: Vasilievskiy (6'3") would dwarf greats like Billy Smith of the Islanders and Grant Fuhr of the Oilers (both 5'10"). Without having seen this era, I'd be surprised if they managed to see through screens and tips that are so much a part of current day strategy. NBA wise, as a fan it's less surprising to see so many current day stars already high in the all-time scoring rankings, and that in large part is due to the popularity of the 3 pointer. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson made the shot from outside much more prevalent, and so compared to guys playing on the inside or taking midrange shots, most stars these days (besides Giannis/ Simmons) can regularly hit outside shots. Heck if you put Jokic against someone like Shaq and he played him from the outside, he would light Shaq up and trade his poster dunks for 3 pointers. Other sports I don't know.
  5. Probably voting for Sid, though Kane/ Mackinnon (for their game-breaking pure offensive talent)/ Sundin/ Lindros (for their all around game as power forward types) could each have arguments made for them as honorable mentions. Tough to compare Nate vs Sundin and Lindros for instance, since Nate's speed would probably get neutralized in tough group defenses from Lindros' day vs. Sundin/ Lindros being able to use their size etc. to intimidate, but they might be a bit slow for a fast paced game. Sid's track record and winning pedigree get my vote too.
  6. Just watched the Demon Slayer movie after finishing the first season.  WOW.  That ending gave me Endgame feels *phew*.

      Where's Wellwood

Fairly good and it's canon to the manga. Picks up right after the events of the season.

I'd say the peak of the show so far is episode 18-20. Especially episode 19

@Where's Wellwood I love Homura (the end credits song) now, but it wouldn't have had the same effect without the context of the plot.  I heard the song before watching the movie but it just doesn't hit the same way IMO.

@Dazzle the first half watches like an extended episode, but the second half it goes into overdrive.  Of course don't skip to it since it is canon, but well worth the watch after the season.

  7. Until Seider takes over as the top RD, they'll need Hronek for that role, so he's getting paid like one.
  8. Looks like that's a snippet of https://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=sv&u=https://rakapuckar.com/mobbningen-av-loui-ar-over-som-att-borja-om-pa-nytt/&prev=search&pto=aue? (also if anyone's Swedish or knows the language I'd love to know what he was actually referring to by saying "bully" and "the freezer", wouldn't want to have his words get lost in translation before giving my opinion).
  9. Yup, for all the LD corps (OEL, Hughes, Juolevi, Rathbone) to have rebound or breakthrough seasons, for Poolman to prove that he's not a bust, for Hoglander to take another step as a two-way winger, Garland to support Horvat's line, and Dickinson to solidify the #3 C role. Those would be the keys that I'd look for.
  10. Surprised Montreal didn't want him Really hope he shapes up as a person otherwise his once promising career might be short lived.
  11. Exactly this. Also I don't see how Seattle lets multiple firsts go, even if they get a franchise center. One Eichel-esque string of bad injury luck, coupled with a $10+ million contract, and the young franchise could turn on Petey esp. considering it would've likely cost them a shot at several blue-chip prospects.
  12. Kevyn Adams step right up, if you want to handcuff yourself cap-wise and give us your early firsts.
  13. It's between hands and shot for me. There's been guys in the past and even now who can flat out skate but can't finish consistently (e.g. Andreas Athanasiou). With shots you get goals and with hands you can dangle, make plays and also finish plays off yourself. If we're talking hands like Pat Kane or Nikita Kucherov vs. Stamkos or Ovie's shots I'd say hands. It also involves good hockey IQ to make use of good hands (e.g. chip up the boards vs. flip to a teammate vs. stretch pass) but you need the hands to execute any of those, and even if you don't score or aren't ahead of everyone, you can have a Gretzky-esque impact in making those around you better.
  14. The only trade I'd consider doing is the first one (Smith would be a major component of any Hughes to Jersey deal, and I like the prospect of Juolevi for Bahl, in that we'd get a defender with similar upside as the Finn but with increased size and strength at 6'6" which would be a major help defensively), though we're gutting the left D too much if we're forced to put Bahl in the top-4 and Hunt permanently in bottom-pair minutes. Also let's hold off on trading even more firsts AND our best young guns, the prospect cupboard is going to run REALLY thin. Lastly, OEL and Eichel on the same team for years might end up like Parise and Suter in a couple of years (locked to long term deals that may age really terribly given injuries).
  15. How so? Is he that much better than Svechnikov? Both put up 0.8 points/ game this past season and while Petey's career started off really well scoring wise, Svech has really closed the gap these couple seasons. Coupled with the fact that Petey has had injuries already this early on, he might not be as durable of a star (not saying he's injury prone).
  16. I'd be surprised if it was anything other than 8 years * $7.75 million (a.k.a. what Svechnikov and Couturier got yesterday). Then again Benning gets his guys to buy in and take bridge deals so wouldn't really be surprised if Petey took one.
  17. Kane's game breaking talent makes it tough to not vote for him, not to mention he performs even in the playoffs despite being a smaller guy, and he also has 3 Cups.
  18. Presuming he's signed, some combo of Severson/ Graves, + Ty Smith/ Shak, + a mid-round pick (1st might be a bit much if two NHL caliber D are already coming back).
  19. Definitely do understand the asking price (Eichel's got potential and if he stays healthy he'll be worth both the salary and the trade cost). If Calgary would stomach that risk, it'd be high risk but also high reward. If I'm Buffalo though, I'd ask for Monahan for starters ("replace" Eichel), but then push hard for either Hanifin or Andersson because the Sabres defense will need help (Dahlin had an off year and the other candidates for spots are either unproven -- e.g. Samuelsson/ Bryson, mainstays who are punching above their weight class e.g. Colin Miller, or cast-offs e.g. Hagg/ Pysyk [who's a 3rd pair guy]; Jokiharju and Butcher are offensive guys). Craig Anderson and Dell will need all the defensive help they can get.
  20. Personally, I'd say Detroit, LA and Jersey (in no particular order). Then again it makes sense why 3 rebuilding teams run by bright GM's are making improvements. Detroit: gets Nedeljkovic (at worst 1B to Greiss), steals Leddy from NYI (they were in no place to keep him but the Wings get a top-4 D), Pius Suter (2nd/ 3rd line C who just entered the league), and Stephens (4th line C from a winning organization that Yzerman knows well). LA: Arvidsson (poached from Nashville seeing how they would lose him in the ED), Danault (2nd line C behind Kopitar to insulate the kids OR a strong defensive 3rd line C in case he gets leapfrogged), Edler (still solid in limited usage at this point); only lost MacDermid to SEA (tough guy but not all that skilled) NJ: Bernier (solid platoon partner with Blackwood), Hamilton (potential for big production, even though it came with a big contract) Ryan Graves (young, cost controlled top-4 defensive D) and Tatar (skilled offensive winger); losses appear negligible HM: DAL (moves look rather lateral and Dickinson was a necessary loss, but getting Suter looks genius); CHI (Fleury as a #1 for free, plus I think Johnson could thrive depending on his role; the Jones contract is rather expensive but shows their win-now mentality; McCabe could be a steal too if healthy); VAN (Dickinson and Halak are great moves, as is retaining Hamonic to play next to Hughes again, and Garland; OEL is a risk but if they can recover his form he could be worth it)
  21. If Darnell's contract wasn't that hefty I'd strongly consider, and then flip OEL for someone less expensive. Nurse does have value for sure as a shutdown guy, but $9 mil+ * 9 years is crazy.
  22. As good as Petey is, I feel like the other teams will say it's an overpayment since most are trading their young star and adding picks for Petey. For Vancouver though, I'd really only consider the NY offers since I'd strongly prefer getting a #1 C back for him (even then, there's arguments to be made that they wouldn't trade their current guy for Petey). - Devils decline, Zacha and Sharangovich will both be great wingers and they have Jack Hughes, doubt they add the 1st - NYI: how come the picks from Vancouver got arbitrarily increased? Bellows has had all of 3 goals, and we're not really in the market for top-6 wingers to need to add that much when we could give Jonah a shot (same reasoning for why I'm against all the other deals -- wingers are not what we need [re: CAR/ DAL/ FLA/ DET deals], and for the Nashville one I'm not sure they'll trade Fabbro AND a 1st). Thanks for the effort in writing all that, but it's simply not realistic.
