  1. It's the bolded portion which has me going conservative. I'd be happy with some form of 5-4 record ("4" including both regulation and OT losses). While the team does have more defensive defenders, when up to 1/3 - 1/2 your blue-line is new (Olli isn't new but he only played half the season and around 13 minutes/ night), I think there will be some growing pains even as the partners learn to gel with each other. I'd expect either Poolman or OEL to be question marks/ inconsistent, and if Juolevi takes on primary defensive minutes he might need time to adjust too. Most teams have also shored up some weakness (e.g. Edmonton with Hyman/ Foegele/ Ceci/ Keith?; Flyers have more offensive and defensive depth on paper; Detroit with Suter/ Leddy/ Nedeljkovic...; Hawks with Toews/ Jones/ Fleury; Kraken are brand-new; Wild were one of two playoff teams from that list last season, and they'll be dangerous with Kirill the Thrill and Fiala). That being said though, with the new offense, Dickinson and Halak as backup, I think we'll be a tougher opponent too, hence an improvement from the 4-5 start last season.
  2. I'd entertain this ONLY if Hughes expressly said he wants to go play with his brothers. Smith, Shakir Muhammadullin (spelling?) and those picks would do it, since Shak likely has Tryamkin potential.
  3. Ahh yes, Benning doing Super Benning things; must mean Petey and Quinn's signings are incoming!
  4. I could see each team having reasons not to do it: - after seeing Pietrangelo walk for nothing, I could see the Blues want to re-sign Parayko (they already have an offensive D-man in Krug). - as others have mentioned, Vancouver may want to keep the younger Hughes and let him be the top defenseman they projected him to be when they drafted him, instead of getting Parayko, who's 7 years his senior, who played a shutdown role (Faulk was the offensive RHD in the top 4) Personally I would like to acquire Parayko, but wouldn't mind just trying to sign him instead of making essentially an overpay for a pending UFA in a trade (and I'd only want to move Quinn if I'm certain of what OEL and Rathbone are respectively in this stage of their careers).
  5. By acquiring Subban and losing the serviceable Myers and his term, we'd probably end up having to sign someone for around the same amount or worse give up future assets to get another guy once we realize Subban (literally and symbolically) can't fill Myers' shoes. Also, if we make a move like this, and Subban/ OEL suck, it might trigger the domino effect that stars might start wanting out (contracts expiring, Subban being an albatross would be like what Arizona's been doing when it comes to stockpiling bad contracts for picks). There might be more harm done than what we'd even anticipated if PK doesn't work out.
  6. Even IF Petey wants out, trading for Marner would just be a step backward (like others mentioned, he's no playoff performer).
  7. Ahh, this is exactly what HKSR has stated I'll be honest I didn't know much about Jakob either except that people viewed him as a reach way back when he was drafted, and look where we are now (lucky for us we get YouTube to see at least a glimpse of the players). Also don't forget that he plays for Arizona which hasn't had much team success. I'd view him as another Chabot/ Ekblad (elite D-man who doesn't get the press because of where he plays) or Shea Theodore (lost in the crowd where he plays, e.g. with Fleury/ now Pietrangelo) but like the first two examp;es where he's the workhorse (which would be the case since OEL is now here) they deserve attention and media and fan consideration. His stats and physical attributes don't lie, because he's very much a special #1 D-man.
  8. It's honestly a very fair deal, might even be a steal too for us. For what he brings, I'd argue Chychrun (an all-round workhorse on the back end) for Hughes (elite offensive D-man) could be a wash, and 1st/ 3rd/ Motte would be good value for a cost-controlled young (only 25) C/ LW in Dvorak who's an all-round top-6 center. Honestly I'd trade Dvorak to recoup some picks and blue-chippers if we want to re-sign Miller/ Boeser/ Horvat [I'd personally leave all the other parts, e.g. picks/ Motte/ Dvorak out] but we'd be really stacked if we could trade Hughes for Chychrun (he was the Coyotes' MVP last season). Chychrun - Myers (primary shutdown pair, though Myers would be able to take on more offensive duties) OEL - Hamonic (Hammer can cover OEL and let him take the offensive reins) Rathbone - Poolman (same as the pairs above, except they'd face lesser offensive groups) Rathbone
  9. You'd be hard-pressed to get Mo for Hughes straight up (considering Stevie drafted him in what has become a steal of a reach, it shows what value he saw in him). Also, seeing how Quinn is the modern era puck-moving D-man and how good Stevie is at running a team overall, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he already has a top end PMD in the system. Agreed with 48MPH too regarding the top pairing RHD being the hardest position to fill in hockey, so Stevie probably won't let him go esp. when on ELC.
  10. The other stars on Team USA should be footing a big chunk of that bill, after he bailed them out from their lackluster gold medal game performance and scored 1/3 of the points last night (the other 4 starters - Lillard (11), Jrue (11), Booker (2) and Adebayo (6) combined to score only 1 more point than he did). Realistically, it's no KD, no gold medal.
  11. Hardly haha (unless Edmonton has a time machine and brings back his rookie 17-13-30 form). His play and ice-time have all declined since his first year.
  12. The Staals for me. Wonder if they ever played on the same team growing up, because their skill-sets would've complemented each other. Eric:top-6 caliber center scoring-wise for the vast majority of his career (#1 C mostly), plus he's 6'4", well-rounded play-wise and a winner (Triple Gold Club) Jordan: strong #2/ shutdown C behind his brother (they'd form a complementary 1-2 punch), also 6'4", scorer in his own right and a leader (Canes captain) Marc: strong shutdown D-man (he and Girardi were the NYR shutdown duo), plus he's also 6'4", was a 24 minute/ ~30 point D-man
  13. Time to declare you the Victor? Oh wait, there already is one in this thread...
  14. Now they just gotta sign Vesey and trade for Chaput and Megna.
  15. When desperation rears its ugly head, thy name is Dell and Anderson.
  16. Anyone catch JB's presser for Free Agency?

It was good.  650 has it on their site.  Benning did an interview on 650 too.  Both are a good listen.

Imac gotten stale for the new Canucks. He was above average before. but now he's gone the way of Cherry

  17. Something tells me Jimbo rewards him with a NTC... Hoping around $1 million.
  18. I mean Chicago does get a guy who's at least top-9 F in Johnson and a pick... but yeah this is getting ridiculous. They can just keep cycling their overpriced assets for space to retain their core group.
  19. If he was a RD then sure. We shouldn't be moving any of our young LD though, unless it's trading from a position of strength (e.g. Juolevi and Rathbone both broke out, then trade one to get a young, cost controlled, big minute RD). Til then we should hold onto them.
  20. First sign Petey, then Schenn (rumored to be wanting $700-$800k for 2 years). Getting Hamonic back as well for $2-$2.5 million would be gravy.
  21. Yes please to Luke Schenn. Could definitely do worse than a 6'2" RHD who's still youngish and rugged to pair with our mobile left defenders.
  22. I mean you COULD, but #1 we probably can trade him, #2 we still need a guy like him (RD who can play big minutes) and #3 if (surprisingly) no one takes him, we'd deflate his perceived value so much that he'd definitely ask out and we'd be paying to lose him instead of trading from a position of strength. Just look what happened to Baertschi.
  23. I'd say maybe, in that he could very well have become entitled as a result. Wouldn't be a first and wouldn't be the last to though, so I wouldn't hold it against him, some people just mature later than others.
  24. Just because he wants out doesn't mean he needs to go to any old place, he can still veto certain teams and cities. If Schmidt was the first choice, then I really hope that other teams value him as highly and would offer 2 x 2nd or 2nd and a defenseman.
