  1. What makes you think that? He came to Vancouver after all.
  2. Why? We're so flush with veterans anyways, might as well pair him up with one so he can learn the ropes from them over the course of a full season, while also helping with our cap situation (while he's on ELC). He looked good while he was here last season too and played 15 minutes a night.
  3. Pass. Gudas is so error prone, he's not the type to hang back defensively but chases big hits. He and Hughes would be a dumpster fire. Also doubt Florida would move him to pick up another D-man with term when I they're still stuck with Stralman. I think Holtby to Philly with some retention could make sense if Elliott doesn't come back, though I wouldn't rule out the same for BOS/ CAR/ maybe COL. Not sure where I see Schmidt going honestly, maybe Boston? They don't have much LD depth behind Grzelcyk.
  4. Crazy to think, but Staal actually scored more points than Edler even though Staal is a "shutdown" guy. Coupled with Edler's footspeed deteriorating, definitely agreed that they're probably in the same category/ stage of career.
  5. If he didn't play like such a floater then I'd definitely miss him more (seeing how he was a high draft pick), but coupled with the potential charges from his lawsuit it doesn't bode well for both his professional and personal life. Hope he really learns, matures and is motivated to come back as an improved person all around, since he sees how easy it can be earned but then have it all go away.
  6. Nope, rumor has it his ELC will come with a NTC/ NMC. EDIT: management sure loves their Swedes this weekend (OEL, Myrenberg, Gabrielsson, Forsell)
  7. Potential poor man's Alex DeBrincat? Small but skilled. Not the worst idea to swing for the fences since we've had some recent luck with later picks it seems -- Gaudette, Hutton and Forsling were all 5th round picks who've become NHL players on some level, and maybe he could be a Brandon Pirri).
  8. Exactly my thought. If some of him, Jurmo from last season, the Finnish goalie we picked this year, Klimovich, Costmar, McDonagh and Persson make it to the league we'd look pretty good for depth.
  9. Could do worse than add a 6'2" RHD who can shot and hit. Too bad Morrow went just before our 41st pick, but this guy could be good?
  10. Same here, but before that happens I think they're the best that we currently have (and Schmidt of course has prior experience in that role with Vegas) so I wouldn't put it past them to find that form again, if only partially.
  11. For me it's gotta be Ty Smith, either Holtz or Mukhammadullin (hulking, mobile Russian project defenseman picked at 20th last year) and a mid-round pick (2nd or 3rd). Smith's scoring is at a respectable 0.48/ game (23 points in 48 games last season) and can play both LD/ RD. If Shak pans out we could have a defensive tandem of Shak - Smith which would probably be quite solid (Smith already played 20 minutes per game this past season). Adding another blue-chip winger in Holtz would be nice too (can have him marinate in the minors) but our forward group is already loaded esp. with Garland and Podkolzin joining. If we keep Schmidt then we have to shed cap from the defense somewhere and I'd trade Quinn when the other Hughes brothers pressure the Devils management to get him. The following looks really good on paper if management can make it happen. Miller - Pete - Boeser Hoglander - Bo - Garland Pearson - Dickinson - Podz Motte - 4C - MacEwen? OEL - Schmidt* (this pair would have pressure to become an all-situations big minute pair, but I could see it happen) Shak - Smith Rathbone - Myers OJ? Demko
  12. Yes, in exchange for Kings legend Yutaka Fukufuji and Sabres icon Taro Tsujimoto. Got a true blockbuster on our hands, folks.
  13. Lol true, but not at $8.25 million for 3 years. That's another 1/2 of OEL's contract.
  14. Not to mention he's one of the greatest meme legends the city has ever known. #ThankYouLoui
  15. Basically this. Hopefully the return for Schmidt would be one of those #1 or #2 RD.
  16. Agreed, sounds like an overpayment. Pietrangelo signed for $8.8 million and I don't know if he's better than him, and then there's Hedman (who might be an anomaly) at $7.875. Sure his type has gained value with how he can influence all aspects of the game but he's not consistently as dominant as those other guys.
  17. If somehow Schmidt and 41st yields Zadorov and their 11th could take place (signed at a discount) and Holtby goes to either Boston or Carolina, that would be amazing.
  18. Now that it's listed like this, honestly it doesn't look so bad for Philly. At least on paper, Risto is a top-4 D, while Ghost was done in Philly, Patrick was a question mark and I wonder if Ellis in normal circumstances would've cost a 1st + Myers, so Hagg and the other picks look like scraps in exchange for Risto.
  19. Swap Holtby in for Virtanen? So Schmidt/ Holtby/ 41st for DeBrusk and 21st. Boston doesn't have any goalies signed currently and who knows if either Rask/ Halak come back, or if Vladar/ Swayman are ready for leading roles. They won't trade McAvoy or Carlo of course, but I wonder if the 21st pick could be packaged to get another team's RD.
  20. Bury Roussel then sign him with the $1 million freed up. If he's available late into summer then see if he can be had during PTO's.
  21. Besides the usual "BPA", I think the order of need by position would be: RD (not sure how Woo will pan out; the regulars are good enough but could always use a long-term defensive partner for Quinn) C (Dickinson helps with a current need at 3rd C so not getting McTavish wouldn't be so pressing an issue; the reason I have C behind RD is because RD is really pretty bare, whereas our center incumbents are still relatively young, so we can afford to stock up on depth without rushing them to fill roster spots as quickly) LW (interchangeability of wing positions definitely helps, but we don't have too much certainty besides Hoglander, so could look into adding a prospect) LD/ G (like OP mentioned, we're pretty stacked in goal and RW, but I think these spots are both pretty good since the incumbents are so young)
