  1. That really shows how new you are to the game (besides some of your other posts...) Anyways this is Eric Weinrich
  2. I'm not sure he's the best guy to ask, he sees everything through yellow colored lenses.
  3. If he will be fit to play again then that actually wouldn't be a bad pickup. Would be open to picking up Bortuzzo and he'd be a slightly lesser RD but one who brings size and defensive stability, so I'd be open to it. Tarasenko would also be an intriguing pickup if we are in fact looking to bolster the top-6, he could really help since he's strong when it comes to puck battles, and he and Petey could do some damage working off of each other and sifting through guys in an expanded offensive role. Miller - Petey - Tarasenko (tilt their responsibilities more for offense, and Petey would have two power-wingers and versatile setup men to work with) Hoglander - Bo - Boeser (all 3 have strong two-way games, and Hoglander is a good assist man so Boeser probably doesn't suffer too much) Pearson - Dickinson - Podkolzin (primary defensive unit, but the wings can counterpunch too, and they're a strong depth line) Hughes - ________ Rathbone - Myers Juolevi - Bortuzzo
  4. Defenseman Slava Voynov. Domestic assault which led to suspension in the league and then returned to Russia. I guess Jake will have to sign overseas if he wants to keep playing and join the likes of Leipsic etc. (wonder if DeAngelo signs abroad too).
  5. Jake's probably won't happen until there's some definitive answer regarding his legal issues. Holtby might get traded (apparently there's interest from some teams for him). The other deadweights should just be buried to wait out their final year, or traded where possible.
  6. Oof, would be devastating if he left. Even worse than an offer sheet too, since at least that way he'd get compensation but in this case he only holds onto his rights.
  7. This post could really blow up in my face years from now, but I'm curious about how big of a loss Lind really would be. He's definitely touted as being gritty and a playmaker who looks like he would be ready to play in the NHL. Given how he's performed to start his career though, I wonder if he'd even have a roster spot ahead of MacEwen who's shown some scoring punch and grit (plus there's guys like Lockwood/ Hawryluk if they bring him back as guys vying for 4th line roles). As well, I think between keeping a project in him and bringing in someone like Dickinson for a needed defensive role in a situation when we're bound to lose someone, I think the choice is pretty obvious as to who to keep. Lastly, it's not as if our wings are old and past their prime -- Miller and Pearson are our oldest wingers and both are only 28, plus Hoglander and Podkolzin who likely have long-term top-6 roles, are only 20.
  8. Raymond, Ballard and a 1st...? Oh wait Should be an interesting day ahead, and hope somehow Holtby ends up in Seattle.
  9. I don't see how we wouldn't be a winner at that time. Reason is, we'd have a guy on our team called "Bear". Like the animal. There's no way we're not winners or at least bad-asses at that point.
  10. It's heavily rumored (and with reason) that the Wild want to add center depth, so I'm doubtful that they would add another expensive defenseman (they already have 3, and Soucy can probably play top-4 D minutes) and Boeser (sure he helps with scoring but also another $5 million+). Taking on nearly $7 million in cap after trading some prime assets (particularly Greenway) without getting a #1 C and not re-signing Kaprizov doesn't seem like the way to go. In short it favors Vancouver too much (we get size and cheaper without addressing Minnesota's needs).
  11. Yeah could definitely see him want to get paid early by reaching UFA status where he'd command big bucks. He could easily reach superstar status in a big market like ours. That being said, when he does it'd be tough to balance him, Petey, Hughes and all the support pieces, and since Minny still doesn't have much flair besides him they'll probably hold onto him if at all possible.
  12. So is Schmidt and his near-$6 million Benning's sweetener for Seattle to take Holtby? Or they take Holtby and then we trade Schmidt to them for a 1B and a young RHD? Either way, in option 1) his cap hit doesn't work as a sweetener and in 2) if Seattle drafts a goalie I doubt they'd flip him esp. for a $6 million D when they can also sign their own guys e.g. a Hamilton/ Savard/ Larsson [Drieger isn't going anywhere, nor will Price(?); maybe we flip Schmidt for someone like Raanta's rights if he's picked and Justin Holl [which I would do] but I don't see the benefit of it for Seattle, unless they know of another team wanting to acquire him, in which case we might as well flip him to them ourselves).
  13. Like the others said I'm not sold on the notion of his Francophone background being the selling point for the trade. Given the salary and how Roussel isn't really a positive asset, plus we have Motte or potentially Highmore/ Gadjovich who could slot up the lineup, I would rather give one of them the 3rd line LW spot and keep the bottom-6 less expensive. Time to put an end to the expensive bottom 6 (Byron is good, but Motte's probably just as fast and smart, bigger, and comes at around 1/3 of the contract price). I like the look of the following and would prefer not to add more 30+ players (rather just bury Roussel and Eriksson). Lotto Line Pearson - Horvat - Hoglander Motte - Dickinson - Podkolzin Highmore - Beagle - Lind/ MacEwen
  14. Depends if Kirill the Thrill actually becomes a KHL flight risk... but if that does happen it does beg the question as to why we might want him. Some might reference Podkolzin as a reason for him staying "because they're both Russian" but honestly I don't see it, and if he is in fact KHL bound I doubt we'd want to trade Boeser for his rights. If he stays Minny will lock him up, so either way I think it's a no-go.
  15. Hi all, with the roster protection lists now revealed for the Seattle Expansion Draft, I thought it'd be fun to have a thread for everyone to share their picks for who they think the Kraken will take from each team. Bonus discussion point: predict a side deal that will take place (team making that deal, player protected by it and the asset cost). Should be a fun one! P.S. Rule: ensure that the collective roster does not exceed the salary cap Anaheim Ducks Boston Bruins Buffalo Sabres Calgary Flames Carolina Hurricanes Chicago Blackhawks Colorado Avalanche Columbus Blue Jackets Dallas Stars Detroit Red Wings Edmonton Oilers Florida Panthers Los Angeles Kings Minnesota Wild Montreal Canadiens Nashville Predators New Jersey Devils New York Islanders New York Rangers Ottawa Senators Philadelphia Flyers Phoenix Coyotes Pittsburgh Penguins St Louis Blues San Jose Sharks Tampa Bay Lighting Toronto Maple Leafs Vancouver Canucks Washington Capitals Winnipeg Jets
  16. Agreed with Niedermayer, was a fan since the Devils days and even more when he joined the Ducks. Also never knew that Roenick used to be #27...
  17. I wonder why the team that drafted him does it. Kudos for a fresh idea but big RHD esp. those on ELC's aren't readily available. I also have my doubts as to why the Rangers would want Schmidt, when their top-4 should be pretty set (Fox, Trouba, K'Andre and a LD called Lindgren who looks pretty solid). If they would take Schmidt for Schneider then for sure pull the trigger but I doubt we get there.
  18. Lol on the basis of being a d-bag it's not like Weber was exactly Mr. Clean himself. Still remember how he grabbed and then shoved Zetterberg's head into the glass. That aside, still awful for a career to end this way, if it does.
  19. Depending on who the Canes lose (one of either Skjei/ Bean/ Hamilton) they COULD have interest in Schmidt, but I think that's really only likely if Seattle took a big money guy like Skjei and they couldn't bring Hamilton back. Bean's not going to cost very much for them to retain and if he's the one to go then I don't see them splurging so much on a 3rd pair guy when 3 of their top-4 are already locked in (Slavin, Pesce, Skjei). Losing Hamilton COULD generate interest, but it also depends if they just want to replace him with Hakanpaa (UFA) or someone else. Overall there's the possibility of it and Foegele would be an interesting player to come back, but I also wonder if it really meets what Carolina needs (also they need space to sign several guys including Svechnikov and Nedeljkovic so Schmidt might be too pricey for their tastes).
  20. If that's the case then I'm confused as to why you have Kessel slotted next to Horvat... he's a pending UFA and led them in scoring so I'm not sure they'd so readily move him. Not sure why they wouldn't sell him to the highest bidder to meet their needs or just keep him, instead of trading him for dead salaries from us (plus Vancouver views Horvat's line as a matchup line which would thrive best with two-way wingers, so I'm not sure an offensive winger like him fits our needs). In all I don't see the fit for a winger and a LD with big price tags coming to Vancouver when we need centers and RD, so it's confusing on several levels.
  21. Basically this, we'd be screwed cap wise for years if we tried to fit in OEL. Realize that all our bad contracts are pending UFA's. Adding OEL just costs us most of the cap space we'd need to re-sign our other stars, so no to Ekman-Larsson, not to mention Kessel.
  22. We picked him up while he was a big minute D-man and I think it's too soon to write him off or consider him to have no value. Also cap dump valuations don't really work like that, it's not as though a previous trade locks them into their trade value for good.
  23. He needs a right side D-partner. Schmidt's one of the LHD who can play on the right side, just like he did in Vegas.
  24. I never said don't contact them, my priority list after EP and QH would probably be 1) get Hamonic locked up, 2) try to sign Suter depending on his asking price and 3) contact Edler around the same time as Suter [keep him as a backup option unless they trust Juolevi, which I'd be open to]. Edler in particular is at the point in his career where I hope they don't circle back to him (just like when Burr was traded to Ottawa or Hansen to SJ, there comes a time for veterans to get moved, and that's when they've slowed).
  25. You never know, if Benning picks up the phone there's at least the possibility.
