  1. Lol maybe there's another pillaging that can take place, if our cap opens up could send Schmidt to take on the extra $1.6 million for Ekblad and not have to add? For the price of Schmidt (if the Panthers don't have cap space Vancouver should not be the ones adding), that would be a steal.
  2. TSN compared McTavish to Ryan O'Reilly... if that comparison is remotely accurate then I wouldn't mind that. Also hope they try for an RHD with their later rounds e.g. Ceulemans and Lambos if they're still around.
  3. Compare them if you must, just know that Trader Jim Benning has a ways to go before he's ridded his team of all bad contracts like Burnaby Joe has. Til then, he can only hope that the depth guys he acquires chip in so well to the well-oiled machine that is his team and that the stars are so devastatingly potent (this part about comparing the stars I can see but do so at your own risk. While the goalie and top-9 comparisons are valid, the Avs with Mackinnon and Makar have two guys who can take over and be dynamic in ways that I'm not sure Petey and Quinn will grow to develop, since they can each do things at such high speeds with effectiveness that the Canucks duo [and most other players in the league] haven't shown the ability yet to do without being turnover prone). I'm sure that Benning can find some guys who would look like the finishing touches to the team's depth but until the stars prove to have that same upside, I'd be careful with this one.
  4. I kind of see where OP is coming from, Lindholm plays a cerebral kind of game that would complement Hughes and Rathbone (since they project more as Torey Krug type puck movers) and could pair well with Schmidt on a shutdown duo. Schmidt's dual sidedness helps in this case, but my problem with it is the timing and context of his acquisition (via trade, when he could be signed in a couple months potentially) and the fit (possibly better to get more physicality). For his role, I think handedness in this case would be a secondary issue.
  5. Hampus Lindholm is a UFA after this season. No point forking out so much if he wants to come to Vancouver when we could just sign him (and trading blue-chip pieces is something that contenders do). Also, given the state of the defense we should be adding, not taking youth and talent away from it. Rathbone stays and we'll sign guys and let the bad contracts fall off the books then hopefully we'll make moves. Par for the course for one season then gotta trust JB to use the cap well instead of shipping out quality top-end assets.
  6. I'm not mad at the reporter, just doing their job on a slow Monday with the local team eliminated. Basically it's them throwing their darts in speculation and somewhat for readership, since 1/2 of the team is moveable (either as dead weight, depth guys that need replacing or assets to move for improvement) and even a broken clock is correct 2x per day. With that said, unless there's something being discussed that we don't know about yet, it's probably nothing to see here.
  7. Wonder if the Oilers would move on from him to fit in two $3-$4 million dollar wingers (the Pens have 2 wingers in Kapanen and Rust, and also Carter who's a valuable depth guy this season, making around $3 million). Of course it would be great for him to get Guentzel money again but they don't really have the forward depth to pay him as a William Nylander depth scorer type if they don't have another higher end winger they can put at the top of the lineup so that they can split up McD and Leon. Though Kassian, Puljujarvi and Yamamoto (who's also RFA) had solid seasons, they also have Neal already signed for $5.75 million so could they afford another big price tag winger in RNH if he's not a game-breaking guy who can really help Leon and McD? That would be my question.
  8. Not a bad proposal for Vancouver. I'm still mildly reluctant to move Juolevi, also still see some top-4 minute capability in him (and I don't really want Edler back given how he slowed) but if they can bring in someone like Forbort for some toughness on the bottom 2 pairings on the left side (and we can shed Roussel who looked pretty bad this year), then that would make moving Olli more palatable. Wonder if Ottawa would do it though, their left side could be set with Chabot, Brannstrom (former 1st round pick) and Mete (picked up from Montreal and looked good).
  9. When did their franchise become the Arizona Recycling Bins? Because they're basically taking our trash. If the 1st sweetens for Loui, Juolevi sweetens for Roussel, then we're trading Lind, Myers and Schmidt for their only two remaining D-men with term in Chychrun (their emerging top D) and OEL (overrated and overpriced but still decent and their captain) and Schmaltz (their 4th leading scorer up front, albeit with term in his contract)? Not sure Arizona guts their talent on the blueline and doesn't get help for up front since scoring is an issue for them (they only scored two more goals than us all season). I'm struggling to see what this does for the Coyotes.
  10. Yeah, I would agree Mackinnon's probably a difference maker, not sure Vegas really has a guy of his caliber (Vegas' top 6 is solid but no one guy like him or Makar who can do so much on their own). Colorado in 6 or 7.
  11. I think this series should be lots of fun, both teams can play with a lot of speed and skill and both Vasilievskiy and Nedeljkovic are known for some acrobatic saves. Hope TB still comes out on top (hope Kuch goes for a deep run) but should be a good 7 game series.
  12. I mean it is possible that he could grow up to become one of those shooters who quotes things like books like these in a letter before doing his deed, but again I agree with most of you that it's probably nothing, and the head editor (though they're a student) should know better to run it by a teacher after they see what the kid wrote. Having all the books recalled and effectively making a bigger deal out of it than it should be by effectively cancelling his freedom of speech is another matter altogether, and I think the school went too far.
  13. Now is this before or after the ED? Also Jarry was a sieve against the Islanders but Holtby was worse statistically in the regular season plus he's on the decline in his career, so are they are downgrading to Holtby to get Schmidt? They already have a pretty deep blueline (5 of their blueliners - Letang, Pettersson, Marino, Matheson, Dumoulin - are signed with term and earn more than $4 million a season) so I'm not sure why they would give give up their young, still-starting caliber goalie in the NHL and Crosby's running mate for an aging backup and a defender they don't necessarily need (Vancouver doesn't need Rust either as we're good for wingers, but getting him and Jarry would be a steal).
  14. Props to McDonalds for jumping on the hype, turning regular McNuggets, fries and a coke into a "BTS Meal" (for those who aren't familiar, it's the most popular Korean pop boyband).  Way to ride the hype train and get fangirls to pick up their purple colored boxes and paper bags en masse.

@Petey_BOI celebrities sponsoring foods in Korea is super common, and now that they're so famous worldwide it's a partnership full of potential.  @Aladeen race you to the dumpsters, because one man's trash is another's treasure!  :P

  15. Other years maybe, but IMO definitely not this year. It's a crapshoot and there might be another Petey somewhere down the draft board, while some top guys are probably going to be duds since they haven't played all years and there's been no scouting.
  16. I think the article misspelled "L-a-r-s E-l-l-e-r", no way for $7.8 million would it be worth taking on Kuznetsov
  17. Haula for 3C, Sheahan/ Paquette for #4 and then McGinn to replace Roussel (either buried/ bought out) would be sweet. Wouldn't mind bringing Graovac back either. (I'm not sure of what we have in either MacEwen or Lind so I'd include them in the extra forwards/ Abbotsford team - unless Seattle takes one of them, or they could play their way into the lineup) McGinn - Haula - Podkolzin (all round, grinding 3rd line that gets some goals, plus all 3 can make plays) Motte - Sheahan/ Paquette - Highmore (speedy, chippy, somewhat offensive and responsible 4th line) //Hawryluk, Graovac, MacEwen, Lind
  18. Can't wait to see who Benning buys out this off-season,

    Eriksson's saves $2 million
    Roussel's saves $1.26 million
Beagle's (might not be worth) saves $800k
    Holtby saves $3.8 million(!!)
    Virtanen saves $2.5 million(!)

    That's nearly $9.5 million there

JB could dump these contracts with 4-7th round picks, id rather just ride it out one year and lose all these for nothing. fresh cap next year all current buyouts will run to and loungo penalty gone.

  19. Such a scrappy Suns/ Lakers game, and I couldn't believe it boiled over somewhat when Cam Bridges threw the ball at Caruso then Harrell came in and shoved Cam aside, all the while LBJ missed his FT and Paul grabbed his arm to drag him down. Good for Booker to step up and be the closer as with CP3's injury they'll need it,
  20. Yeah I wasn't disagreeing with your comment, just that it was a good latching on point to add my thoughts. That does seem to be the case, guess he's like Brandon Pirri in that he can score but doesn't have a well-rounded enough game or is a bit of a one-trick pony. It's the second bold that I have some reluctance about, since I think the correlation doesn't mean that no one wants him as a player -- I feel pretty confident someone will scoop him up this off-season, even if it's for a $700k contract (but admittedly he's not worth more than $3 million). The skill is there but when it's attached to that price tag and rumors of injury proneness then it's no wonder no one scooped him up back then. I almost hope he rebounds well and has a successful second half of his career to give the finger to our management if it was indeed a disagreement between him and Green or someone that resulted in him getting demoted.
  21. I'm starting to not buy the injury concerns narrative... I mean he did miss 8 games this season with Utica but he's still scoring (and of course last season he was above a point-per-game), so it's not like there's a lesser chance of injury in the minors as it's still the same sport (genuinely curious if it's really that much faster and higher risk). Of course the team seems to have a skilled top 6, gritty bottom 6 philosophy but given how the likes of Jake and Roussel performed this season, I can't help but think that his skills as a winger could've elevated the 3rd line (vs. the crash and bang style that Roussel/ Jake played which led to no scoring, not to mention their inconsistency/ downright laziness at times). If Tampa could shelter Tyler Johnson as a 4th line center with two bigger wings in Joseph and Maroon, he could've made it work with the array of gritty guys we have.
  22. If they would take Jake for Lias straight across then sure. He's done nothing to warrant top-line responsibilities. I'd be open to get a project (he's bad on draws at around 39% but is gritty so maybe we could turn him into a 4th line C down the road?) Add some competition to Lind and others for candidacy for the 4th C.
  23. They validate guys taking cheap shots, either when they're way ahead or way behind, and call it the aggressor "trying to get into their opponent's head/ setting the tone". Add that to the "team toughness" mentality that's being preached when these dangerous hits happen and go uncalled and it's a recipe for a powder keg. Soon these teams will have penalty boxes full of players and all the stars will have been hunted by the other team such that it'd go back to scrappy hockey and whenever a guy gets hit hard (even if it's clean) teams will just try to tear each other's players limb from limb for the same of "justice".
  24. The thing with this is, I don't see him getting the top line minutes to warrant his pay, and at the same time Boeser and Podkolzin need to play big minutes too for their development. Secondly, even if he started off getting the minutes, I think we have enough forward depth that he won't get the prime top-6/ PP opportunities to justify his contract and he might return to being an albatross contract if he slumps. If those lines do work and we become Tampa lite up front that would be great, but the price of his contract still has some risk e.g. of other RFA's getting offer-sheeted and so it might lead to one step forward, two steps back (TB probably needs to dump cap next season with Kucherov and Stamkos healthy -- they lucked out this year as both were on LTIR for the season). In short, there's too many concerns for me for salary cap, player deployment and other stars' development to take on so much money and with term.
  25. Agreed that Johnson could play C but we don't have 3 two-way C's (maybe unless we put Miller up the middle) to buffer him, and Johnson feasting on other 4th lines but costing $5 million is too much for our team's cap structure (hope no teams with cap try to poach our other stars who need to be paid). While he did play with Palat and Kucherov (I think it was these two) when he broke into the league and he with Podkolzin and Pearson could make for a two-way unit (or he, Motte and Highmore/ Hawryluk could be a smaller but effective 4th line), again the price point is the major sticking point for me (and it's not like TB can really afford to retain cap, if I recall correctly).
