Canucks & Habs(2 Proposals)
Phil_314 replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Alzner's even worse than Loui (granted he's cheaper, but he can't stay in the lineup). If there's rumors that the Avalanche are in for Hall though, I wonder if they would entertain a deal to move Drouin to them, say for Zadorov and a 2021 2nd? We shed $1.5 million in cap by losing Loui (bury Alzner) then several million more by trading Drouin, while also getting a big right side D (does he have arbitration rights? $3 million for his previous contract seems a little steep but more palatable given who we lose). -
Good point. If Marky is to walk and he sees something in Cory that he can bring back the potential starter in him then I'm all for it. I did check on the NJ forum and saw a similar proposal made and some fans didn't want to lose their backup and saw Loui as blocking the way for younger forwards. Honestly I'm not the most well versed on their team but sounds like for them it might not fly.

Are the Vancouver Canucks Canada's best chance at a Stanley Cup?
Phil_314 replied to Canucks_fo_life's topic in Canucks Talk
Depends if there's any drop off in the crease and if any D help is acquired, along with how much is lost from this roster this off-season. The core is definitely there, and we probably are closest. -
That's fair enough, but therein lies the problem. If Jake chooses not to do that here then it's simply not going to happen.

[Proposal] Ottawa - Lightning
Phil_314 replied to PunjabiCanucks's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
First of all, Stamkos has a NMC. Doubt he'd waive from the only team he's ever known, much less to a rebuilding team. Also, not sure how good of trading partners these two teams really are; Ottawa has cap space but Tampa has no dead weight contracts to shed, only that they unfortunately stand to lose one or both of Cirelli/ Sergachev. If I'm Ottawa I'd try to do what Vancouver did to get Ehrhoff, in offering up a combo of blue-chip prospect(s) and pick(s) for the two studs so that they have potential lesser replacements while I'd get two franchise pieces to build around (top-4 D in Sergachev, potential #1/ #2 C with Selke caliber play in Cirelli). Ottawa can't possibly offer sheet them both so trading for their rights probably would be most conceivable. -
Ah so you're hoping that he's more of a Tom Wilson than an Alex Tuch? Demeanor wise I question if Jake's that kind of guy though, and I could see why people compare him with Tuch (big but not the most aggressive but with more speed and good shot; Tuch also only had 8 PIM's all season so he's not a goon by any means despite his size). Wouldn't a Tuch-esque player be what we should aspire for him to be anyways (creating off the rush)? The muckers like Roussel are the ones that get their hands dirty and take untimely penalties, though aggression wise I would like to see them rush the net more often since Jake does have the size. However it might just be that he wants to beat goalies clean and not score dirty goals.

[Proposal] Kevin Shattenkirk
Phil_314 replied to PunjabiCanucks's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If they let Sergachev go maybe they'll keep Kevin if he signs for cheap? Depending on the price ofc there would be interest but we have our own fish to fry too. -
Agreed that he should stay where he is. I feel like his perceived value is inflated given his highlight reel goals, but make no mistake, he's not a guy who's shown he's suited for more offensive minutes, at least not yet. It's not like he's JT Miller who's scored 40 points multiple times but has just been buried in the lineup due to superior depth-- his career high is 16 points in 74 games. While he may have found a successful niche as a PK/ shorthanded scorer and started scoring in bursts (I think Daniel Cleary is an astute comparison, given similar trajectory), unless he puts up more than 30 points and really takes off, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

[Discussion]What if Benning trades

Watched Mulan (2020). Without delving into Liu Yifei's personal political stances, I thought the movie itself was pretty but forgettable. Besides the beautiful shots of scenery and partly successful representations of some Chinese cultural traits, the fact that it was filmed in English made many of their phrases and idioms lose much of their meaning, not to mention that they sounded more tacky. Some major themes ("chi" plays a big part) are represented in such unnatural ways (basically stuffed in the dialogue and more of an Elsa-esque personal trait than something greater than an individual's own ability) and some other unbelievable plot points made me throw my hands up and go "what?". Lastly, she falls into the same category as Rosie Huntington and other action heroines, in that some scenes just look too beautified to get me to buy into it. I gave it a 6/10. Again it's really beautiful, but it felt too westernized (I'm Chinese and the appropriation of this character was too forced for my liking).

I know you're speaking in accordance with the sentiment of the moment, but that's just crazy talk. He's one waiving (hello Michael Grabner) or motivational whipping away from potentially becoming at least a complementary top-6/ top-9 guy, since he just needs a fire lit under him. There is reason why he was picked where he was and why he "broke out" this season. To compare him to a goon (I love Ryp, don't get me wrong) is just crazy.

[Discussion] ditching Eriksson plus others
Phil_314 replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Sutter for any pick return (hope for 3rd or 4th) from a contender, or if a team like the Rangers wants him, could acquire someone like Lias Andersson (suspended for leaving team after requesting trade). Buy low on a locker room problem who could mature and become of greater value, since he needs new scenery and could become motivated. Let Gaudette take his lumps and work on his face-offs but keep him as #3 C. (up to $4.375 off the books if traded for a pick and without retention) Hopefully the price to dump Loui isn't TOO prohibitive (sign and trade with Jake, who some fans on other forums argue could go for as high as a 1st or 2nd by himself; acquire and dump the asset with Loui, say to Ottawa to keep Cheapo Melynk from spending too much). (around $7.5- $8.5 off the books depending on Jake's price) I honestly also hope they reconsider giving Sven a chance on the team (think that's not too crazy seeing how they included him in the Black Aces but he just left); if he makes the team again after a solid AHL season and even proves his top-6 upside again, I'd be down to move from Pearson who's going to be pending UFA if there's a strong bid for his services and Sven proves capable back on Bo's wing. Ferland more likely than not can be a safe bet to be on the LTIR once again, if not retired altogether given how he has a record now of only short stints of health. Walk from Domingue/ Fantenberg/ Leivo/ Toffoli as necessary. ($3.5 gone for Ferland) Miller - Pete - Brock (Sven) - Bo - (Pearson?) - slight but necessary downgrade to save $ by losing Toffoli; both these wings have had chemistry with Bo Roussel - Gaudette - Leivo - would not be opposed to acquiring a stronger two-way 3rd C and bump Gaud to wing, cost dependent Motte - Beagle - Mac/ Lind - serviceable 4th line Hughes - Tanev Edler - Myers Juolevi - _______ - could be someone for cheap e.g. DeMelo or Borowiecki if not Rafferty (Markstrom*) Demko Slight downgrade in certain spots but at least the core up top is strong still in most positions -
To piggyback on the initial idea, wonder if the trade would fly if Pearson and Neal were taken out, and we had Sutter for Khaira and Berglund? If there's any Oil fans on this site let me know, since Sutter seems to be an upgrade on Khaira for 3C, and I wonder if Berglund's path to the NHL is blocked enough (Bear, Bouchard, plus depends on whether Larsson stays) that they may be open to move a depth guy for the move? PS I haven't had time to consider cap, but curious if the pieces would work for both sides.

With Neal's $4.3 million for several more seasons we're in cap hell. Agreed with the above that I'd likely be down to do smaller trades (e.g. Sutter for Khaira). Though we're giving up the more experienced and better face-off man in Sutter it's promising that in a small sample size Khaira won more than 50% of his draws. If he's not asking for a big raise he could be a steal (e.g. around $2 mil?). If we do flip Pearson (not sure we do seeing how the team likes to hold onto pending UFA's unless they're declining hard) I'd want to trade a guy with a rep for being a playoff performer out of the division.

BLM sensitivities aside (and I mean no disrespect at all to the movement, I personally support them in their rights movement after the centuries of systemic slavery), this is really becoming quite ridiculous and reeks of cancel culture, cultural appropriation (for a word that isn't even theirs) and snowflake generation/ too easily triggered. As a Chinese person that would be like if someone with a twang or accent said the word "tomato" (sounds similar to the Chinese phrase for motherf----) and I took insult to it. Guess I just gotta Karen up and speak to the manager to get the person who said that offensive vegetable fired. Or if my Korean friends decided to take offense to people offering them chocolate (which sounds like the Korean phrase for "do you want to die?") then can they do the same thing? That would be a just and fair outcome given this precedent.

I doubt that's been a question for quite awhile now

(Rumour) Jared McCann possibly on the move
Phil_314 replied to PhillipBlunt's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Could see either them or Minnesota take a stab at him. Wild are set to lose Koivu and Staal's not getting any younger, and not sure they have any C with potential to keep up with Fiala and Kaprizov up the middle. His draw % is also as good as Eriksson Ek who's taking over for Mikko so he could be good depth. -
LOL what does your boy think of bacon haha

Dang, Giannis and Luka would probably be even more dangerous -- one's unstoppable almost on the inside, another can create with the best of them from outside. Talk about stacked WC teams...
