  1. The Pittsburgh Penguins are ecstatic to announce the signing of Jayden Grubbe, signed to an ELC contract of 3 years at $985,000 AAV. Selected by the New York Rangers in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft, Grubbe has found a new home in Pittsburgh Wilkes-Barre/Scranton California, where he will play on loan for the Oilers AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Known for his defensive two-way prowess, we believe Jayden will develop into a strong, powerful forward and find a place on the main roster sooner than later. We look forward to his upcoming games in Penticton! #LetsGoPens
  2. Leafs Oilers cup final game 7 OT is a wet dream for Sportsnet. Nightmare for Bettman.
  3. My understanding of new parents is that they simply abandon any semblance of a sleep schedule. Oh well!
  4. Nope - this story is not yet over. Biz just doubled down so this whole saga continues.... Warning: Tweet contains inappropriate language.
  5. Johnny: "Uh, I got something to tell you" GM Kekäläinen: Babcock watching the NY Jets game last night be like: "Hey... I just came up with a great idea on how to make money doing nothing..."
  6. I guess some people are worth redemption so long as they have that bully A-hole mentality..
  7. "Hey I'm the new coach that's had to step away from hockey for years because I was a dick to the players, but I'm good now" "Oh and I'm also gonna see all your private photos and see what kinda person you really are - totally normal stuff"
  8. That is an insanely cheap deal for a guy that can still score 20 goals. Doesn't even matter if he can't score in the playoffs - he's dirt cheap.
  9. A competitive team has no use for an ineffective player like Kieffer Bellows. Maybe of he were a more defensive player who could kill penalties (like Zach Aston-Reese), he'd attract more attention.
  10. The recurring theme of preseason injures falls in line with a serious concern I have with the Canucks at an organizational level - it simply doesn't know how to deal with health and fitness. Every fall we suck, and players get hurt. It feels like every other team got through training camp and preseason ready to take everyone on. Not us. We always stumble out the gate and start losing players. And those who continue playing, play through injuries. It just seems like incompetence. Is it really that hard to get a proper preseason training regimen that brings up players' fitness and reduce the risk of injury? Is it really that hard to stop players from continuing to play with torn ligaments?
  11. Is it? I'd rather chase for a bottom feeder where I have a chance to play and get paid.
  12. @Elias Pettersson wants to know why you didn't put Pesce on the poll
  13. The thing about Pickles is that he actually had a very impressive year defensively, showing flashes of that old school brilliance. You'd think it a bit harsh to put him at #1, until you realize he's 36 and has multiple years left. Who knows, though? Maybe he can continue to put him decent numbers and forge an excellent twilight the same way Giordano did.
  14. I feel like this setup will get in the way of some players trying to rush across the neutral zone. Just my thoughts.
  15. I don’t think anyone on this forum truly knows what we have in Rathbone. I don't know if the coaches know - I don't even know if Jack knows himself. Is he NHL level and can do some damage on the third pairing or is he just way too weak defensively to make the team? He isn't going to play attacking minutes in the offensive zone and on the PP. He needs to be good in his own end. If Rathbone has any hope of making it, he needs to look better than Brisebois and Irwin.
  16. Alright, let me adjust my earlier premise... If you think we can actually extend Pesce at 6x$6.5M, he'll probably live up to his value for most of his contract. Do I... think it's realistic that a $39 million contract is the best offer he'll get on the market? Hell no. The cap is going up next offseason and Pesce knows some nutjob will be willing to throw $45-50 million at him. As for Pesce's inevitable decline, it really should concern you that Canes fans/pundits have already begun to notice smalls signs even though he's only 28. It should also concern you that Pesce has logged a ton of tough, physical, defensive minutes in his younger years, and has racked up quite a few injuries over the years because of it. I think Pesce is an infinitely better player than Myers when he joined us in 2019, but he already has all the signs of a gradual decline and I'm not sure about spending that much money on someone whose best years are already behind him. For posterity, here was Myers' WAR card in his last year with Winnipeg vs now. Garbage.
  17. On a lighter note, @Elias Pettersson just because we manifested our Suter dreams into reality doesn't mean it'll work again. But you can try.
  18. While I do think Pesce is a borderline $8M level of player at the moment, the way he is trending should concern you. He is already showing small signs of decline. I know Canes fans are hesitant about him because he's got serious injury history and they've also noticed his game slip up just a bit. Obviously they'd like to keep homegrown talent like Pesce but they're also afraid of Waddell throwing a blank cheque at him. He is still a beast on retrievals and entry defense, but the offense has already started to taper off. That 6x$6.5M contract is gonna turn into another albatross much faster than you think.
  19. A grinder could be a great captain... as long as their leadership skills help rally the team.
