  5. Sometimes it's not always about the exciting fights, it's about who the fighters are. And for this one, it wasn't outstanding. As for the two big fights... how is that exciting... we have seen MUCH better stuff in the UFC....
  6. I can't answer that one for you, since I don't know. In reality though, it isn't easy to find GOOD jiujitsu dojos outside certain areas.
  7. In reality though, the martial arts in Korea just aren't fit for MMA. Tae Kwon Do, we've already discussed. Hapkido uses joint locks and various short range weapons for close combat. Useless in kickboxing. Gumdo, swordfighting, useless. Taekkyeon, basically the Korean capoeira; useless. Koreans are also very good at judo, which is useless in K-1. The one thing that might be useful is American boxing. There isn't much, but yeah.... most Korean martial arts just aren't meant for MMA. The one thing is that they are quite flashy and impressive to watch. 720 kicks, 900 kicks, pretty cool to watch. If anybody wanted to learn a real self-defence martial art, I probably wouldn't suggest a Korean one.
  8. Haha I know I know. I'm not trying to defend as a real MMA-type martial art, but people HAVE tried it in K-1 matches, with varied success. I don't think anybody has won a K-1 event with only tae kwon do. Come to think of it, there aren't a lot of Koreans who have won full events anyways.
  9. Hehe, you'd be surprised. There are a few Korean guys who use Tae Kwon Do in K-1. Although... you keep your hands down in Tae Kwon Do, so they haven't been entirely successful, but they have used it in kickboxing. Of course, Muay Thai is pure MMA type kicking.
  10. K-1 has standing downs, so you're right about takedowns, but players who fight in Japan leagues have made the jump. Rua, Rampage are two big examples, but they weren't in kickboxing leagues. Still, it's probably not going to be as bad as boxing, where Toney had ZERO clue on what to do. At least K-1 fighters have a pretty complete standing game. I would say they can do a BJ Penn, but he has been crap these last two matches.
  11. Here is the real question... can Badr Hari or Remy Bojansky succeed in the octagon? I'd really like to see how an elite kickboxer would do in the UFC. Most of the Japanese stand-up guys and people like Cro Cop were K-1 fighters, and they've made a decent transition, but it would be interesting to see the best guys go at it. The reason I like kickboxing more is because you get to see more kicks and kick knockouts (since you can't grab).
  12. Tiger Woods looks awful. There's five dark circles around his eyes... but he's playing good golf.

can't blame his wife for those dark circles now, can he :P

  13. Serena has pulled out of the US Open due to injury. Henin can't play. Clijsters looks like crap. Venus looks like crap. This definitely opens it up for second tier players like Wozniacki, Jankovic, Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Schiavone, even Dementieva. My bet is on one of those players.
  14. I just checked and now I feel like a fool. His official comeback will be at the Thailand Open, which starts on September 25. US Open starts on August 30, less than two weeks from now. I seriously doubt he'll be able to come back.... in ten days. Even if he gets a wild card, he's probably going to play like crap. At least Clijsters had a few warmup tournaments heading into it. It doesn't even look like DelPo has fully recovered yet.
  15. Never gonna happen. DelPo is still a long way from getting better. It's really sad to see that, such a huge injury so early in his career. Don't be surprised to see a shell when he comes back on the tour. Rogers Cup has been disappointing so far.
  16. He'll get slaughtered by the masses if he tries to do that. Hell, the mods would probably be all over him too.
  17. Now comes the big discussion about Federer. He's really unpredictable now. Who do I think Federer will lose to in the US Open? Pretty much anybody. Here's a list of players who can beat him.... 1. Nadal 2. Murray 3. Berdych 4. Soderling I didn't include Djokovic because he hasn't beat him in so long. But anyways, I predict a semifinal exit come September.
  18. Not yet. We've still got a few Masters series tournaments, which Nadal ALWAYS, ALWAYS dominates. And then he'll crash out in the third round at New York, AS ALWAYS. I don't think anybody can explain as to why Nadal sucks at the US Open. Yes, it's the fastest major, but... he always goes on a rampage on the American circuit.
  19. For non-major matches, it's usually not a matter of stamina. One week tournaments usually don't take a lot out of you, unless you're doing them in succession. Fed's stamina isn't phenomenal. It's very good, but Nadal is probably one of the toughest players on the circuit. Not only is he very fast, he is, without a doubt, the strongest player mentally. So he doesn't tire out and he doesn't burn out or get discouraged after losing a set. Besides, Federer is getting old... *sigh* I'll be happy if he wins just one more major.
