  1. Have the Jays been playing soccer the last few days? What are these scores
  2. The Pittsburgh Penguins select... from the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.... the breadman.... Artemi Pan- oh wait... ...Andrew Mangiapane! eat that for bread, @Patrick Kane
  3. You better hope he passed the eye test because on paper he sure doesn't.
  4. Neither players are that remarkable, but at least Rutta looks like someone who belongs in bottom pairing shutdown role. Myers really floundered playing alongside OEL. More importantly, no team is going to want someone who either gets in the box too much or can't kill a penalty to save his team. People here love to emphasize that Myers will only earn $1M in salary after his bonus gets paid. It doesn't make a difference anymore. Every team is above the floor. A bunch of teams (including us) are OVER the cap. San Jose is not a cheap team like Arizona. Asset management is more important to them than cutting costs. If they were to agree to this trade (with zero salary retained on Myers), they would at least want a 2nd or 3rd round pick in return. Nobody is going to do us any favours by taking on more salary. It's obvious San Jose is going to go for an all-time tank this year. You know what I would do as Sharks GM? I'd just keep Rutta, and trade him at 50% in January. He's a more valuable player at a cheaper price to contenders.
  5. Avec le huitième choix, le Penguins de Pittsburgh sont fier de repêché... des Voltigeurs de Drummondville... Pierre-Olivier Joseph! WOW! @Herberts Vasiljevs
  6. His value ALWAYS came from his two-way play. He was a very solid defender before injuries began wearing him down. Despite being unable to generate any offense himself, he was a decent finisher with a solid shot. Was he worth the money? Hell no. But pointing out his production and +/- means little for a defensive forward who played on some HORRENDOUS teams under Benning.
  7. Put Sutter's career in a Canucks vacuum and you'd think he was chronically unhealthy his entire career. It's definitely a big leap to suggest Sutter has negative memories of Vancouver because of health problems (I think 'hate' is too strong of a word), but would you be surprised if... Pearson or Ferland had those sentiments?
  8. The problem here is that Myers hasn't even lived up to being a $3M player with 50% retained. If a contender wants a RD at the deadline they can just trade for Rutta at 50% or even Dumba. Everyone is cheaper. Myers does hit and block a lot, but his defensive play gets him into serious penalty trouble. For such a big body, he's been a nightmare to watch on the PK. Your goal on defence shouldn't be to block shots. It should be to prevent goals. Myers doesn't do that very well at all. @Elias Pettersson Look at it this way. If you think Rutta is a better player (which he probably is), why would San Jose trade him away for a worse player who costs twice as much? Sharks fans would pull out their pitchforks knowing they flipped a valuable trade asset into... Tyler Myers. The only way this would work is if we retained a significant portion of Myers' cap, so that maybe SJ could flip him again for even cheaper. But it begs the question: isn't it better if they just traded Rutta for something better than Myers? Myers also seems like the most settled family man on the team. I don't know if he'll waive his limited NTC.
  9. Yes. Nathan Walker is a solid bottom six player who plays for the Blues. He is Aussie through and through - just listen to an interview. Boggles me why the NHL didn't send St. Louis. Walker probably would've played in front of his entire family and friends. He did this a few years back: The LA Kings do have Jordan Spence, who was born in Sydney but left right after. He grew up in Osaka and Charlottetown, played for Team Canada. I'll laugh if they have a series in Japan next year and send Walker's team but not Spence.
  10. Still makes zero sense how they couldn't get the one Aussie who was born and raised in Sydney and played through the Australian hockey system... doesn't get to play in front of his fans. How could they have dropped the ball this poorly?
  11. sorry @thrago already took him 30 seconds before you
  12. You picked an inauspicious time to talk about BC Ferries
  13. The Pittsburgh Penguins select elite two-way forward (and Team USA phenom) Pavel Buchnevich from SKA Saint Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League. USA! USA!
  14. Are you afraid of discord or something
  15. If it wasn't for a couple Brazilians I talk to in real life, I'd think those announcers are simply speaking Portuguese.
  16. Hey, you'll get no objection from me if we sign Jones (for cheap). I'm sure Clark would've made Stalock good too. I think management's answer to the backup question is Arturs Silovs. He had a crazy year capped with a MVP-level tournament but he is still very young. It's a lot of pressure on a rookie trying to get his team into the playoffs.
  17. Martin Jones is a weaker option than Stalock but he's literally the only option left on the UFA market. Him or... Jaro Halák. He's actually better than either goalie but let's be realistic.
  18. Alex Stalock was someone on my radar as our potential backup goaltender. He's a solid veteran who can definitely step up as an emergency starter if necessary. Should Demko go down again (knock on wood), and Silovs struggles, we go back to Spencer Martin or we have to make a trade.
  19. The Pittsburgh Penguins announce Carter Verhaeghe and Roman Josi as the alternate captains for the inaugural season of the CDCGFL. #LetsGoPens (Yeah I stripped Sid of all letters nobody tell Gator)
  20. The Pittsburgh Penguins select... from the HIFK Helsinki... Ville Husso Do not let Jim Reimer steal games from you @Herberts Vasiljevs
  21. The bubble was over three years ago. I wouldn't base any player assessments off such a once-in-a-lifetime scenario.
  22. When you say stuff like "Dubas was a loser for firing Babcock" or ridicule a player’s medical condition, it makes you one of the worst kinds of people: a bully. That's all you are. It's disgraceful. It's gutless. You seem obsessed with Dubas anyway, so it's only fair that you get flamed every time you say something stupid about him.
