  1. This thread is no longer a Whitecaps thread. Not even an MLS thread. Just Messi that own goal was an absolute BANGER though
  2. Tell us. Pittsburgh unloads a 35 year old D-man, a 33 year old D-man, and a 31 year old forward for a 33 year old D-man and a 26 year old forward. So you tell us - did the team get older or younger? Don't waste your time with someone who doesn't understand hockey
  3. As advertised. He knows his job and does it well: His offense brings him down but that doesn't matter. I don't think Beauvillier commands a lot of trade value so I'd be fine if we got Smith and a late pick for him. As for other defensive bruisers on the market, ZAR is still unsigned:
  4. Funny enough, Myers had 93 hits this year while Dumba had 104. Myers blocked more shots (144) than Dumba (116) though. Both are equally physical, but Myers tends to penalized at a higher clip.
  5. Signing TJ Brodie: top 4 defensive D-man Acquiring/extending Giordano: dirt cheap top 4 two-way D-man Acquiring/extending Zach Hyman: gave up practically nothing and extended for dirt cheap Drafting and developing: 60% of his 35 draft picks have been signed to NHL contracts Nothing makes you sound dumber than when you start talking about Kyle Dubas. You just keep copy-pasting the same phrases over and over again.
  6. Actually, Dumba is okay killing penalties. Myers is especially bad, compounded by the fact that he himself can't stay out of the box. So indeed a slightly better player in every regard. Cheaper. Younger. But more injury prone. Still massively overpaid at $4 million but can be a rental somewhere else for half price. Well, apparently he trains during the offseason there, so... he's probably totally okay going to the desert. If I got offered double pay (in the millions) to go somewhere lame for maximum 8 months (maybe less if traded), I'd take it. Wouldn't you? It's not like he doesn't get to travel, after all...
  7. 1. Dumba is free, Myers is not. 2. Dumba is a slightly better player. Not $4M better, but at least he can kill penalties and stay out of the box.
  8. As long as Crosby lives and breathes, you need to try and win a cup. He's got them 3 already - Pens fans understand there's a decade of misery over the horizon. The optics of this trade are important. It sends a message to the players and to the league that Pittsburgh intends to win now. It's a splash that can obviously go wrong in a lot of ways but keep in mind Karlsson was also a massive point-producer in his playoff games. If the team doesn't look great they can always add more pieces before the deadline. If nothing, Dubas just undid all of Ron Hextall's mistakes in one big trade. That alone deserves some recognition.
  9. On paper this team still consists of a bunch of proven playoff performers who've played with each other for nearly two decades now. The big guys are old but they can still play very well when healthy. Obviously injuries is the primary concern with all of them (including Karlsson), but can you really fault Dubas for going all-in while the core is still intact? Do you want them to whittle away just like Washington did?

  11. So he basically has ZERO intention of living there for more than 6 months
  12. Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to select... from the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.... Damon Severson Sorry you don't get to play in Columbus, Sevy! @Patrick Kane
  13. I would've been happy with Vancouver paying half of that money. Surprised he managed to still get $4M this late in the game.
  14. The general concensus of fans around the league is that Dubas did some tidy work in this trade. Everyone knew he wanted Karlsson - the only question was price and it was lowered than everyone expected. Pens fans are really happy about this one. They thought their team was going to slowly wither away into irrelevance (like it has the past few years). Now they got another superstar, are now cap compliant and it somehow made the team... younger?
  15. He got his team into a prime playoff position every year. The first job of the GM is win the regular season, believe it or not. You'd think being a Canucks fan would've taught you that. We keep firing people because we never make the playoffs in the first place.
  16. With the 117th pick of the 2023 CDCGFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to select, from the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League... Leafs Legend Carter "Swaggy" Verhaeghe! Assistant GM Assistant to the President/GM Amanda Kessel is also pleased to announce Swaggy as one of our designated alternate captains. Let's go, @Herberts Vasiljevs...!
