My favourite metrics are actually NBA ones that Nate Silver tries to come up with each year. Defensive Rating Accounting for Yielding Minimal Openness by Nearest Defender (DRAYMOND) Career-Arc Regression Model Estimator with Local Optimization (CARMELO) Robust Algorithm using Player Tracking and On/Off Ratings (RAPTOR) Luck-adjusted player Estimate using a Box prior Regularized ON-off (LEBRON)

Funny enough, Leafs fans are cautiously optimistic right now. After years they've finally been getting lucky bounces. But games 3 and 4 haven't looked great, despite some gutsy wins. Heffy could talk about any of those things, but decides to pick on... Morgan Rielly who has had a fantastic series so far.

I think Toronto fans are very happy with their top players right now. Nylander is a $6.7M player who scored 40 goals on the second line this year and keeps improving. Marner is on fire right now. Kerfoot... just scored the OT winner. Babcock is a disgraced coach who will never be in the NHL again. Sheldon Keefe has gotten far more out of the core than Babcock ever did. I'm gonna have to be blunt here. You just sound unintelligent when it comes to hockey.

Your 23-24 Canucks [Proposal]
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to kloubek's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Don't like Domi at 3.5 and Barbashev at 3? Those contracts seem dirt cheap for what they bring. I think it's a pipe dream to think they'll go for that low on the market. Domi got 50 points this year. Barbashev also almost 50 points. If we could buy 100 points for $6.5 million I would do that a million times over. Which is why it's just not realistic. They have played well enough to get some long-term contracts. I think both of them will sign for something like a 5x5, which is definitely something we can't afford. -
Canucks Horvat knew his role well on this team. He chipped in offensively at even strength, took defensive faceoffs, and played a deadly bumper on the PP. He was comfortable with his role, if not a bit complacent until this year. Boeser is a big question mark. He might very well turn into our own Jeff Skinner, who can't seem to find the right linemates or just any line to feel steadily belonged. Boeser did the best he could getting thrown into every situation imaginable, but it obviously wasn't helping his production. To his credit, he salvaged a brutal first half marred by more injuries and a poor start.

It seems like you've reverted back to the buyout position and forgot the press conference last week. The arguments for/against don't matter. Allvin has explicitly said he wouldn't do such a thing. OEL's going to play somewhere on our team next season. The same with Myers, who we will be hard-pressed to trade away so late in September.

If we were 3-0 without Miller or Petey would you bench them? Bunting isn't a goaltender. He hasn't been good this year but he can totally improve the bottom six. The Leafs haven't been winning because Bunting's out. The Leafs have been winning... despite some rough games on the road. They gutted those two wins in OT and they would gladly have some energy brought back in.

Hronek was on pace to score 10+ goals and 50+ points. That type of defenceman does not belong on a second pairing - at least not on a team with a weak blueline like ours. He has one year left to prove his worth. If he keeps up with what he achieved in Detroit, we are going to have to pay the man at least $6.5 million. Does a second-pairing D-man deserve that kind of money?

2022-23 Norris Trophy [Article]

Points, takeaways, and plus/minus. That's it. Our OP is living in 2008 or something. -
Gretzky fell off for two reasons. He was a broken man by the time he joined the Rangers. Take an injury-prone player and put him in a dead-puck league, and it makes sense why he couldn't score goals. Any Oilers fan or Kings fan or Gretzky fan remembers The Hit: McDavid has two things going for him. The league's offense is actually opening up, making it easier to score 100+ points. And he's also relatively healthy.

2022-23 Abbotsford Canucks Thread

Jesus - they've played each other 12 times in the regular season. This is going to be bloody! -
That is such an irrelevant and wrong take. Those types of rivalries (ie. Lakers-Celtics) are an exception to the rule. Rivalries exist because teams are close to each other. You don't have to watch other sports, but it sounds like you only watch hockey. Clippers fans don't think their team is on equal footing with the Lakers. Mets/Yankees fans hate each other, and everyone knows who the better team is. English football alone has a million derbies - Merseyside, Manchester, North London... so many of them are based on location alone. Try and tell an Oilers fan that "we are all Canucks" and see what they think of you.

2022-23 Norris Trophy [Article]

Hughes has a lot of good per-game metrics because his usage rate is unreasonably high. I honestly have no idea why Tocchet thought it was smart to deploy him for over 25 minutes a game and sometimes over 30. A defencemen who scores 50 points on a 20min TOI is significantly more productive than a Hughes who scores 60 points on 25min TOI. It doesn't make sense to punish a bunch of offensive defencemen and reward Quinn Hughes, who has played well defensively under Tocchet but is still an attack-first type player. You're also overstating Pietrangelo's case, since he's a very offensive D-man who sacrifices a lot defensively in 5v5 situtations. Why are some offensive D-men great while others don't even sniff the nomination list? I firmly believe Karlsson will win, Morrissey will get nominated, and Hamilton/Burns/Slavin/Lindholm will get top 10 votes as well. That you have nobody from the Devils or Hurricanes on your list is bizarre. -
You're missing out on your wet dream. I can't think of a team sport where a fanbase is excited to see their rivals win. Do you think an Everton likes it when Liverpool wins? Do you think Flyers fans are happy that the Pens won Stanley Cups? And of course, do you think Calgary fans aren't happy with what they're seeing now??
