  1. The whole team had two halves of a season, but none more than J.T. Miller. He seemed toxic on the ice, and with the hockey world looking at him, kept doing it. When he spoke with the media, he was cold and passive-aggressive on everything, including with fans. And then he flipped a switch. Ate a snickers. He played better, defended harder, and said the right things with media. I think everyone here can be happy with part two Miller, not part one.
  2. The whole fanbase of any franchise would start a legit riot if they hired Jim Benning. I think more than any other team, Calgary is the best candidate for a re-tool this summer. They are a team that should focus on building a winning core now, without making any rash decisions with their draft picks.
  3. I think being young doesn't exonerate you if you're the captain. This isn't soccer where usually the oldest player captains the team. He might've been young but he was still captain. I don't know what I would've done but I was never known for having outstanding leadership skills at that age. Some leader he was, and turned out to be. But we all know why he is hated now. It's because he never had to deal with it as a 21-year old. He dealt with it as a 33-year old, and he really screwed up. He screwed up so bad that he had to be shooed away for media availability and have Patrick Kane deal with it alone. @Dazzle If he focused on rehabilitating his image by putting energy into helping sexual abuse survivors, if he showed even a bit of humility or contrition, I think he can easily make it into the HHoF. Bonus points if he does it while still actively playing. We'll see what he does with himself without having Rocky Wirtz looming over his shoulders.
  4. By far the most exciting matchup to watch. New York has excellent young players and Jersey has great veteran leadership, but this is a Hudson rivalry, the old vs. the new. Should be so much fun to watch as a neutral. I shall watch vicariously through Quinn Hughes' press box.
  5. They got a winning record without Barzal - not really sure how, but they did. I dont expect him to skate until they are down in the series, which I think will happen.
  6. The Leafs are truly one of the deadliest playoff teams in their effort to get 3 wins. It's almost a guarantee they'll get that job done. They just don't know how to count to 4.
  7. Why didnt they get exposed last year? I would think beating LA and then beating CGY is proof that they belong here, even if they lose to LA this year.
  8. Yeah if you want our core to overlook sexual abuse sure
  9. His comments make me firmly believe that had this happened in 2021 and not 2009, he would've done nothing. He should thank his lucky stars that he was as young as he was when it happened.
  10. It's not really about he said as a 21-year old captain, probably way too young to deal with things like that. It's him unwilling to accept responsibility years later, for himself and the personnel involved. He complained about Bowman and MacIssac getting fired - literally the only one who did so. Toews was so unprofessional the team actually had to hide him from the media and let Kane do the talking. Make no mistake - I have zero respect for Toews. He had time to prepare a statement and express remorse. He used that time to try and play innocent while complaining about cancel culture. **** him for never growing into a man who takes responsibility for his own actions.
  11. They lost to the DeRozans. DeMar and the 9-year old kid.
  12. Just gonna drop this here. DeMar was always loyal to Toronto. And even if he was done dirty by the GM, he will never speak ill of the city and its fans. Even as he turfs them out of the playoffs.
  13. We are still comparing Makar to Hughes? We might have our own MacKinnon and Makar in Pettersson and Hughes (although anyone would rather take the former), but who is Rantanen and Kadri? Kuzmenko and Miller? Who is Toews and Byram? Hronek and Hirose? What about Nichuskin and Burakovsky...? Beauvilier and Boeser? That team was stacked to the t**** and we cannot compare.
  14. Replacing OEL with Garvikov will keep our squad over the cap. That D-man is going to get $7 million as a UFA, maybe more. Even if we can trade away Myers (unlikely given his bonus kicks in during the middle of training camp when every team's cap situation has been resolved), we have to take a good chunk of salary back. So even with other contracts expiring, understand that we still also have to pay Petey in one year. We have to pay Beauvilier in one year, and if he plays with Petey, he will want more money. We have to pay Hronek next year - either he underperforms and we made a bad trade or he plays well and we fork over the cash. What we need to do is continue signing prospects and fill our core with cheap skaters who play well above their contract. Some of those high performers will have to get traded away since we can't afford them. But that is our cap situation. It must not be made worse by simply replacing OEL's salary. Even if we buy him out, we need that open cap space unused so we can re-sign core players.
  15. All of them would make our team. Even Bouchard would make our team. He isn't a great defender but he has great chemistry with Ekholm. You just keep saying the same dumb crap about the D-men, but how can you disrespect an excellent shutdown guy like Kulak? It's because you don't know what you're talking about.
  16. You are living in yesterday's world, man. They literally got rid of your least favourite D-man (Barrie) and replaced him with a much more defensive D-man in Mattias Ekholm. He has been an absolute game-changer for the Oilers. The whole blueline has figured things out and they are in great form heading into the playoffs. Apart from Bouchard, every other player has either played a solid two-way game (ie. Nurse, Ekholm, Desharnais, Broberg), or has taken on the shutdown role (Kulak, Ceci). Their biggest problem is by far depth scoring and goaltending. Their defensive situation has been resolved. Saying the Oilers defensive core is AHL trash suggests you literally don't understand anything about hockey, or at least haven't paid any attention to that team after the deadline.
  17. What are the rules for re-signing him? I see that he can't be offer sheeted.
  18. What the hell? We signed Hirose to a two-month contract and have to re-sign him again this summer? Why the hell would we give one-year deals to college prospects? So we actually need to allocate cap space for him. He is going to fetch at least $1.0M. Or are there signing restrictions?
  19. Hehe this thread is a "What show do you want to stop watching but can't"
  20. You could've seen Walker your local boy and instead you get Jordan Spence a good Canadian kid
  21. NHL you have one Aussie in your league and instead you picked two random teams
