Even a taskmaster like Tocchet isn't stubborn or stupid enough to keep Kuzy on the bench during a shootout. Calgary is a prime candidate for a legit re-tool. They have been mismanaged and coached straight into the ground. But I personally don't mind that Treliving/Sutter combo sticking around for a bit longer.

Changing the draft lottery
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to UnkNuk's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Everyone would want Boston, but imagine if Montreal got Boston. You're a Habs fan... and you're supposed to root for Boston?? This is the stupidest idea I've heard - it's so completely North American and gimmicky. -
I do think the Boeser and Mikheyev contracts had an effect on Horvat. It showed how the Canucks had no interest in actually trying to keep him. If he had produced his typical 60-65 points, he probably should've been paid around $6.5 million. We simply don't have that kind of cap space anymore. We literally have to shed salary next season because we are over the cap. Everyone knew Horvat was likely playing his last season here, and he knew it after those three contracts were signed. Boeser seemed overpaid at the time and a head-scratcher. Miller was fine, only made worse by a bad first half-season. Mikheyev? Why did we sign that? We have no money to retain players... so why spend the little remaining stuff we have left? Fans across the league were laughing at the Boeser/Mikheyev signings because they all knew it meant Bo would leave. Just want to clarify that DEFCON1 is bad. DEFCON5 is good. Unless you are Kim Jung Un. Then you like DEFCON1 I guess.

So Horvat seems eager to push himself towards having that Tavares night here in Vancouver. The major difference is that Tavares openly committed to staying with New York and then became the biggest free agent on the market in recent NHL history. Not unlike Gaudreau, it was a massive stab in the back only made worse by all the Toronto media spin and that infamous baby blanket. Horvat was resigned to being traded when the team struggled and gave us no choice but to sell. I believe him when he said he expected to remain a Canuck for much longer, and I don't think he was particularly excited to be traded. He just accepted the reality and actually inflated his value to help us get a big haul at the deadline.

I will say this. If you are referring to the fans on this forum, then you are actually wrong. CDC really piled the hate on him hard the day he left. He's a career 60-point guy he should've taken a discount he hasn't improved defensive game since junior etc.... and then when that contract was announced.... HE GREEDY HE GONNA BE WASHED IN TWO YEARS It was odd seeing CDC turn on him so quickly. The only difference today is that all Canucks fans (not just this forum) will turn on him now.

Okay. So do you think it would be right for Foligno to have a go at the Jackets fanbase? An ex-captain should never go after his old team's fans unless there was an exigent reason to do so. I dont even think Messier has ever said anything negative about the FANS. As I said earlier, it's a little ambiguous what he said but still makes no sense.

These competing responses show just how unclear his answer was. How does the playoff push rank? "Better than Vancouver." Hmm... okay... weird way to respond but technically correct... How is the fan atmosphere? "Better than Vancouver." Oh... okay. That's a dig at the fans. Guess he wants to turn heel. It's a vague answer that looks odd in one way, and pretty bad the other way. None of that reflects on his ability as a player, which some people (looking at you Alf) are dead wrong about. He is a solid 2C who overachieved the first half, got rewarded for it, but has underachieving the back half. He had no reason to accept a discount - they chose to let him go.

Marchand has never played on a different team. It's likely he will stay and have his jersey number retired. He is adored by the fans. But let's say he leaves in a few years to chase one more cup. Do you think he would ever take a dig at the Bruins fanbase? Because Horvat just did that with us. It's not entirely clear if this was about the franchise's struggles or it was about us as fans, but everyone around the league (including Isles fans) have no idea why he threw shade at us for no reason. Everyone gets why we'd be upset.

All you have to do is look in the mirror and realize how quickly fans turned on Horvat following the trade. On this forum you have been one of his biggest haters since that day. And you weren't the only one - it split the fanbase in two. Are you really that ignorant to not believe some idiot sent a stupid DM his way? A lot of Isles fans are as confused as we are about why he said that. They know exactly what they would do if Beauvilier said that about them. Remember the first game back for John Tavares? Isles fans know. Bo... doesn't.

Why would Horvat play down to 3C if he stayed? Miller would still be on the wing and Horvat probably would've kept scoring. And people would be calling for Allvin to get fired for letting Horvat walk free. Don't even mention Vancouver. No need to compare things in front of your newish fans. Just say thank you for the support and keep up the great energy. He can even say they're the best he's ever had. If you're gonna have a dig, at least make it subtle...

Absolutely no evidence. I am simply basing this off the online hate pro athletes receive. They can get pretty disgusting. I am going to assume a high profile player like Horvat got some flak for leaving Vancouver. No death threats or anything - probably just hate. All assumptions, but you have to agree with me that something like that is very likely.

No, if you look at this gigantic thread fans dumped on him very quickly after the trade. "He's a great player and I hope we get a lot of value off him, etc." But the reactions to the trade were more like "He's a career 2C with inflated stats, toxic captain, should've taken a discount... oh wow that contract he's a washed up, overpaid player etc..." Who knows? Maybe a bunch of idiots sent him hate crap on IG. In any case, what he said was really uncool. But it's also fair to say we don't have a very level-headed fanbase.
