There are two groups of teams that are still playing as hard as they can. Calgary is in one group, where they really can't afford to lose games and have a lot of pressure on their hands. Then you have teams that have already made it but are jostling for positions. Then you have us. The team that was long out and still bought at the deadline. The team that wants to go on a run when it's too late. These wins are good for the team because that's the only way we can rationalize it. We really don't need to make statement games at the end of the season. Tonight's lineup is going to look radically different than the one on opening night next year. Our team legitimately proved to the rest of the league that we were going to play hard for wins the end of last year. That energy doesn't carry over into October because changes happen. The only thing that will change these next couple games is the outcome of the draft lottery.

So... we give up two skaters who really aren't NHL calibre yet, and we get... a quality bottom-six forward plus the youngest prospect of the players involved...? Boston is the best team in the league and they are going to make trades that keep them at the top. They couldn't care less about acquiring "homegrown" talent if it doesn't make the team better.

I dont care about other teams. I care more about us, and now that we are out with only two games left, I just want us to get a good draft pick. We are going to forget about Calgary five minutes after the final horn. If seeing Calgary suffer is more important, you're insinuating you don't mind watching your OWN team suffer too.

Such short-sightedness from fans here. Why are we some of us so obsessed with denying Calgary the final playoff spot. Regardless of this game's outcome, does coach Sutter's team look like they can do anything in the postseason? They are a prime candidate for getting pummeled in four games. What did Sutter say last year? "Waste of eight days"? Everyone except Tofu has regressed this season. They are gonna have to pull an L.A. type miracle to make it out of the first round. So just let them win and let us think about getting a potential franchise player who will be on our team for at least 10 years.

Akito Hirose | #41 | D
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Prospects / Farm Team
He cannot. None of the new guys who have played NHL games can play for Abby this year. -
Here's the thing about Horvat, though - he should've absolutely hit 80 points this year. I honestly have no idea why his scoring completely dried up. He is good enough to generate offense on his own. He's no playmaker, but he should still be able to score. He did so with us in two ways - on the bumper or on the rush. I guess without Barzal he doesn't get the best looks, but Horvat was so good at scoring with his back to the net. Just get it to him in the middle and he will always try to shoot. Isles fans are still really happy right now since they've been winning games even without Barzal. They're also happy with Horvat's game, even if he hasn't scored. Apparently he's fit well into their defensive system, works hard, and wins faceoffs. He's apparently just been unlucky on offense. I think as long as Barzal is healthy we should assume Horvat can score 35 goals per year.

[Signing] Canucks sign Cole McWard
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Oh. We're actually getting pretty close to that limit. Someone should check and see how many contracts we're set to lose on July 1st -
They don't call him Trader Jim for nothing. I actually think they showed this season that they're not afraid of big moves. They just chose to do it mid-season instead of last summer. But I'm sure Allvin will openly say he wants to do more at the end-of-season presser. One player who wasn't there this year was Demko. Now that he's healthy and playing like we expected, he's stealing games again. One person who stayed too long was actually Bruce Boudreau. It obviously wasn't working but for some reason we paraded him for two more months in embarrassing fashion. I honestly thought management was deliberately tanking for Bedard. I'm still not over that.

2022-23 End of Season Milestone Watch...
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to Kevin Biestra's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Sorry - you think Hughes will be top three in Norris nominations? I highly doubt it. The problem with Hughes was that he had a poor first half of the season. He put up points under Boudreau but didn't drive play and didn't defend well. He obviously improved under Tocchet (although it's probably tiring skating 30 mins a game). J.T. Miller was the same way before the coaching change. There's a difference between driving the offense and scoring points. I suspect defenders like Adam Fox and Josh Morrissey will be nominated with Karlsson winning. Dark horse nominees would be... Hamilton, Lindholm, and Makar. They've all had better seasons than Hughes, even if they've scored a couple less points. -
[Report] Canucks recall Jack Rathbone
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I'm also certain that leaving Vancouver was the best thing for both McCann and Bonino. They did not play good hockey with us. McCann took time to improve and got better and better every time he was traded. Bonino would've never been a clutch playoff performer staying with us. Which leads us back to Rathbone. It's never too late for a player to blossom, but it's probably too late for us to retain any trade value. So we can either keep him for depth or let him go for cheap and see if he pans out somewhere else. Jalen Chatfield turned into a really solid top-4 D-man in Carolina this season. God knows we could've used that... but Chatfield doesn't turn into that player if he stayed with the Canucks. He probably would've spent half the season in Abbotsford. New scenery can really change the way people play. -

It makes me curious how the Norris votes pan out. I expect Karlsson to still win it, but who will the nominees be? And I wonder when the voting list comes out, how many Norris votes Hughes got. -

AHL all-star Martin back at it again -
[Waivers] Brad Hunt
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is what I mean, though. Our blueline has been gutted harder than Colorado. If we claim him, he would have to remain with Vancouver for the next... 8/9 games? I would gladly take him on as an emergency sub. Hunt is a good soldier who can eat far more minutes than Rathbone. He is on contract for another year, you say? No problem - he's dirt cheap and performs well in both the NHL and AHL. If Hirose or whoever we have in training camp outperforms, put Hunt back on waivers and have him as depth. He was the Eagles captain and an All-Star this season - why wouldn't you want that kind of player in your system? Edit: He also screams at children. What beaut.
