You're lying to yourself if you think management hasn't burned away any goodwill that the fans have for this team. There is no doubt this season has not gone the way they've wanted it to go. On top of that, the Boudreau fiasco disgraced the image of the team across the league. You are aware of this team's reputation across the hockey community, right? Every single fanbase is actually pitying us for putting up with whatever the front office has done this year. It's embarrassing. I think most people can accurately predict the outcome of this team, in the same we can predict the outcome of the draft lottery. We are not drafting top 3. This team is not going to win the cup. We might sniff the playoffs and even steal a round with Demko in net. We can predict these things because we have seen the decisions management have made in these past 16 months. With some exceptions, most of the decisions have been unpopular with both media and the fans. Nobody knows the future, but everyone has expectations, and they are not good.

This is something fans here aren't going to want to hear, but with Fletcher gone I think we are now the #1 mismanaged team in the league. Complete and total dysfunction where they have absolutely no idea what should be done. Philly, out of sheer incompetence, decided to not to sell at the deadline and let all their expiring assets walk away this summer. True to his reputation, Chuckie burned that franchise to the ground all the way to his last day. The other deadline fiasco was Vancouver, the only team out of the playoffs (by a large margin, mind you) that was a buyer. All the other teams had a relatively clear approach (buy, sell or hold) and it made sense. But the Canucks and Flyers moves made no sense, and yet our management team is still secure?

10-7-1, so 21 points. We are playing some bad teams down the home stretch. Really gonna help our season ticket sales for next year.

Something has to be done about the Ice at Rogers.

If ownership cared about the arena then why do you think we still have maroon seats? -
[discussion] 3C targets for next season

He's probably going to get 50 points this year - that is way too good for someone you're trying to put on the third line -
Nothing is more dangerous than a non-playoff Canucks team in March

Packaged together, they are worth....... a Coyotes second round pick.

I see this has been your take on a couple threads, including your own (where I responded to you). While what you say is partly true, understand that we traded for J.T. Miller and got four good years out of him at an insanely cheap rate. Free agency, as risky as it might be, can turn cheap players into superstars too. We got great value out of players like Samuelsson, Vanek, and Kuzmenko for sure. Even a trade like Ehrhoff got us an excellent player for 2 years. The issue is that we don't flip these players and re-sign them instead. We got great value for Horvat. If we're not looking good next year, it makes total sense to flip Beauvillier and Hronek for other younger players on affordable contracts.

That delay of game penalty was amazing. Remember that he won the hardest shot award. The man does not know his own power!

Save the Drance hate for when we are actually a winning team and he still writes negative articles. It's not easy for anyone to write pro-Canucks pieces these days. Tony Gallagher wishes he were still in the game right now.

Have all of them get inside and try to draw the and-one off a stupid help defender. We all know Ben would kick it out.

Go back in time. The team is committed to trying to win with its current core. I suppose they can completely give up and go for a full rebuild, but they should've done that years ago. We are maxed out on cap, which means there's very little room for us to improve. The only way to improve is by trading away good draft picks for players like Hronek. It's essentially an all-in move just to try and squeak into the playoffs.

Our idea of success is cup contention. Management's idea of success is to get swept in the first round. What did Sutter call it last year? A "waste of eight days"?

There was no reason they couldn't play together. The only thing Aman is better than Lazar at is the PK. If Aman can't do anything in 5v5 (as his stats suggest), is he really a better option? Just put both centres on the 4th line and keep Lazar at 4C. He was defensively much better and at least provided energy with his frequent hits.
-
By all means, go at me. It's no matter since he's gone anyways and Aman is going to be our 4C for the forseeable future. But Aman has played nearly as many games and has contributed as much offense as Lazar did. His offensive 5v5 is statistically one of the worst in the league. That, along with average defending and poor linemates, makes him one of the least effective players on our team (and in the NHL). You'd never get a 4th round pick off of Aman. But as you said, he's a young player, and been very good on our PK. I'm sure he will work hard in the summer and improve next year. But as it stands, Lazar has been much more effective than Aman. He wasn't as good as he was in Boston, but at $1M he was a good soldier for our team, and New Jersey paid fair value for what he brought to the table.

Do the Canucks understand the value of cap space?
Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw replied to dougieL's topic in Canucks Talk
Well, okay. There is some merit in what you're saying, but you're missing some points here. Our three key players are already on very team-friendly contracts. Pettersson right now is very cheap. Hughes is worth more than he's paid. Demko as we have known him in the past is much better than his salary. Kuzmenko is a point-per-game player on a $5.5M contract. That's really good value. Part of the problem is simple: the negative cost of our overpaid players is greater than the surplus we get from our good players. Miller is hardly the issue here - it's OEL and Myers. We can't afford to have a good blueline because we have so much money tied up already. But here's another point - would you be happy if Vancouver did that Jeannot trade? After all, we are trying to make the playoffs next year. Trying to acquire a team-friendly contract from another team is rare, and the price of giving it up is going to be astronomically high. The only way for us to get those team-friendly contracts is either to pay that premium price which Tampa paid, or to find talent from within like we did with our key players (or from free agency like Kuzmenko). Do I want them to make a playoff push? No. But that's what we're doing. -
With Winnipeg being the notable exception, **** all the other Canadian teams. I think most people here are old enough to remember the cup run, and how fans from other Canadian cities rallied around the Bruins. Whoever made the final was always Canada's team until 2011 happened. So **** them. Winnipeg didn't exist then so they get a pass.
