  1. I never thought I'd pick Westbrick, since I'm a huge hater, but yeah. I pick #0 because he was the healthiest of the 3 in his prime (before his first knee surgery). Have you seen the way Ja lands on any of his drives? There is a pretty obvious reason why he always injures his ankles.
  2. Man, I never really understood the Lazar hate here. He was here on a cheap contract and did pretty much what he was expected to do here: man the fourth line and hit people. Management couldn't have expected offense from him, so I'm puzzled as to why fans expected that. Granted, his defensive abilities were a bit less than advertised (compared to his solid performance in Boston), and he struggled on the penalty kill. But I don't think anybody has played reliable defense this year, especially on the PK. Lazar will do just fine on a team that's much more defensively sound. His 5v5 play was a lot better than what everyone here thinks. For everyone harping on him, remember that we was worth a 4th round pick on the market. He was a valuable player on our bottom six, and he will be reliable for New Jersey. That's why they paid for him. This is Lazar's permanent replacement. Clearly Tocchet has liked what he's seen so far and thinks he can man the 4C on a full-time basis. His PK WAR is notably the best on this team (even above Mikheyev). Everything else is a bit poor, especially his offense. Does this matter on a bottom-feeding team like ours? Not at all. It's Aman's first year in the NHL and he is young. But he really needs to improve his offense in the summer if we're to expect anything out of our 4th line next year. Anyone who thinks Lazar isn't a good player, have a go at me. His value as a player is exactly what we got for him return. He was worth a 4th round pick, just like Schenn was a worth a 3rd round pick.
  3. It's a bank. There's only so many big banks in Canada, and 3 of them are named after cities. Did you know we used to be Scotiabank? Even better, do you know Toronto FC has a big BMO logo as their main sponsor??
  4. The Lord giveth picks, and the Lord taketh away picks...
  5. If you look back, most of what we're saying matches up, but puck distribution and 5v5 play is where the stats don't match up with what your friend is suggesting. Hopefully he dresses tonight. Watch how he starts the breakout from his own end - he'll either carry it out (which I think is more likely) or he'll attempt a breakout pass. Preferring one over the other doesn't make someone good or bad, but I view Hughes as a better distributor because he's equally good at doing both.
  6. Ha! You realize Vegas is a playoff team, right? Why would they attempt to replace two of their regulars with guys on our AHL team? Think for a minute before posting trades including prospects. I see Hoglander/Rathbone thrown around everywhere, as if they hold as much value as other players around the same age and already playing in the NHL. A team that's trying to win now has no use for guys who can't crack the roster of a non-playoff team.
  7. I think your report is a bit inaccurate. He is a top-four D-man who has been more effective on special teams (PP/PK) than in 5v5. He prefers to carry the puck rather than passing it out. Overall, Hronek's a good player who still has some weaknesses to work out, which I think will happen over time.
  8. What this looks like is a D core prepared to tank on day one. We would get absolutely torched on defence. I understand you're doing the best with what we have (a pile of misfits), but look at your pairings. Your top pair is offensively minded but one that will drive play. Your second pair is one of the worst defencemen in the NHL playing with someone who has never played a single game in the NHL. Your bottom pairing consists of two very young defenders without much experience, and you're banking on them to be the shutdown pair AKA the ones who try to mark McDavid and Draisaitl. Bahl and Korczak are casualties of two very deep defensive cores - no doubt about that. But you're still asking a lot from these 3 young defenceman. In any case, Vegas isn't going to give up their best defensive prospect for a pile of picks and prospects of our own. They are a resurgent team that is going to try winning with their current aging core. They do need middle six wingers, but I suspect they'll want someone more reliable than Hoglander.
  9. You guys are vastly overestimating Myers' trade value here. There will only be a select few teams that are prepared to tank on day one: Chicago, Arizona, San Jose, and (maybe) Columbus. Sharks and Jackets are up against the cap. Every other struggling team (ie. Anaheim, Montreal, Philly, Vancouver!!!) will at least try to improve upon last year's performance. As JIAHN said, we would have to wait until Sept 15 to make any type of trade. Do you realize how late in the game that is? We'd have to wait until preseason to even think about becoming cap compliant, and so would the team we're trying to trade with. If Arizona wants to reach the floor, they're going to try and figure that out well before opening night. If for some reason they play along and wait, they have plenty of other options than us, and extort us for everything we have to take on bad contracts. We would have to fork up a prospect and/or draft pick to get rid of Myers. In other words, Myers' contract is an anchor right now, and it will still be an anchor in September. He has an extremely negative trade value, which means Vancouver will have to pay a hefty price just so Myers can play against them. There is no simple way that the Canucks can get out of cap hell. There is only the hard way - sacrificing assets.
  10. Trade Myers for what? We obviously need to either retain cap or receive cap in return. You're also not including Tanner Pearson here. We are already over the cap for next year. We need to dump salary, and do it fast.
  11. Nothing special in 5v5 situations, and he prefers carrying the puck out of the zone instead of making breakout passes. He's clearly figured things out this year. Hopefully these numbers keep up or improve later on.
  12. It's a re-tool as advertised... front office was convinced this is what fans wanted... Whoever we draft first round will be expected to make an immediate impact. After that... don't expect any of those picks (traded or drafted) to see the light of day in Vancouver. They will inevitably be flipped for other 25-year olds.
  13. Buyers at the deadline: VANCOUVER CANUCKS
  14. A team that is committed to rebuilding can choose to keep their core or let it go. LA is a prime example of a team that stuck to a rebuild and kept their core. The cup vets helped turned things around faster than expected, and even with some guys gone (Quick/Brown), Kopitar/Doughty are seeing this one through.
  15. I would say management's understanding of the fanbase is misguided. They did say they were going for a re-tool this year, and fans weren't happy to be hearing that word again. I'm okay with being wrong three years from now - but this is indeed to wrong approach to take.
  16. Alright - if we're looking at his PAST years, this trade was 110% stupid. He has made a huge jump this year and Yzerman sold high. Obviously he is an attack-minded D-man (which makes me nervous when he inevitably pairs with Hughes), but his defensive analytics this year look decent. Not great - but decent.
  17. I'd say the majority of the fanbase was anticipating a rebuild, and nobody in the entire league was expecting us to actually be buyers at the trade deadline. Did you expect us to be buyers at the deadline?
  18. Oh yeah? Fans panicked when we got OEL/Garland. I guess that's just FO doing their job, right? For the record, I don't think we were this panicked when we gave up Horvat.
  19. They look alright to me, but Hronek is an offensive defenceman, no doubt about it. Hughes-Hronek is going to a be very attack-minded pairing for sure.
  20. Marino would've been a better fit with Hughes. He is defence-first guy who moves the puck well. A right-handed Dan Hamhuis. Hronek is an attack-first type D-man. He will really drive the offense, especially on the PP, but that's a risky bet to put those two together.
  21. An even trade makes fans from both sides upset. Looks like he had a couple of stinkers this week, but Detroit fans seem pretty okay with this. Who wouldn't? This isn't looking too promising for us.
