  1. I mean, wouldn't you just want to give him away for free? Why put a price tag?
  2. Such a low quality post. Every team wants a Pronger or Chelios. They are in the Hall of Fame. Marchand will probably make it too.
  3. Everyone (including Leafs fans) are okay with Matthews getting punished for this. It is a dirty and dangerous play. But why is this a suspension when other head-crosschecks haven't been punished? Where is the... *consistency*??? What Matthews really should've done is slew-foot Dahlin, which the DoPS doesn't seem to care at all.
  4. There is only one single Miller trade proposal that should be taken seriously at this point. That insane McDavid for J.T. trade idea.
  5. It's hard to find someone more negative and more wrong than you on this forum. Boeser has had good games this week. He has made some costly turnovers these past few days, but he is a very good player.
  6. Erm, yes... having foundational and core players on our bottom six fwd line certainly added stability. I mean, with no-movement clauses, stability was all we were gonna get. Yes, putting $13 million on your fourth line is expensive, but... TEAM UNITY! I'm not sure what the OP's point is. Toronto, despite having lost to us twice, has still been a very good team for years, with massive expectations and a starving fan base. But they are playoff contenders, no doubt about it. Everyone is expecting them to do well in the playoffs or choke catastrophically. The Canucks haven't been contenders since 2012. We sucked, did something unreal in the 2020 bubble, and then sucked some more until everyone got fired. Part of that sucking was being stuck with albatross contracts and buyouts. What was the point of making small trades when some of your highest paid players were healthy scratches?
  7. Not re-signing players in their prime is another way of not winning. What do you want from management? Either they trade away our best (or 2nd best behind Demko) player and we immediately suffer, or we play out his contract and risk losing him as a UFA.
  8. Perhaps not an innocent bystander he shot, but when you try and shoot someone for a just cause but end up shooting someone else, that is not okay.
  9. This is very true about understanding how effective the twins were. Along with Edler (who was their longtime facilitator), the Sedins were slow, lumbering, and didn't even move the puck super fast. But that sixth sense passing awareness made them hard to predict and allowed them to create space above all else. That space forced the other team to scramble, breaking down defensive schemes, leading to scoring chances. The Sedins showed a very unique way of moving the puck, with their strength, control, and awareness. They lacked skating speed and passing speed. These 5 traits together will turn any player into an assist machine.
  10. But he is on a one-year deal. You are suggesting we buy him out this late?
  11. There's a huge recency bias here. His sv% statline in his last four starts is .971, .952, .583, and .571. He has gone from being a really solid backup who put up really good numbers (despite unluckily losing most games).... to this hot mess. I think with the playoff momentum and overall pressure the team is going through, our backup goalie situation is becoming a real problem. But I still think it's unfair to suggest that Halak has been terrible all season long. He was doing good. And then he was doing REALLY good before dropping off the face of the earth.
  12. That will never happen. Ovechkin is like a God of modern sports in Russia. He has had to take a relatively pro-Putin stance because he is such a large public figure. Does he truly believe in Putin? Doesn't matter. But he definitely isn't going to just do a full 180 and start going against the government.
  13. The IIHF made their move after FIFA's ban. I actually think FIFA didn't want to outright ban Russia from tournaments (because money), but pressure from the big countries and the lack of financial security in Russia pushed them to actually come down pretty hard. How is FIFA 'waffling?
  14. At the end of the day, a lot of government funding goes into constructing Russia's national sports teams. FIFA already canceled Russia, so it was easy for IIHF to make this decision. Individual athletes should be free to do what they want. But anything in which Russia is represented as a TEAM is going to get canceled.
  15. The logo itself isn't that big of a deal to me. Switching to the white orca won't suddenly make the entire arena look different. The big problem here is the seating colour. It is this maroonish red. What is that? We haven't had that colour scheme in almost 20 years now (ie. the gradient jersey). Changing just the seats would make the arena look so much better. I'm not even sure which colour would be best, but just not dark red.
  16. This isn't the 90s. Refs today won't allow meatheads to just bash people's heads in. Meatheads who can skate are usually the best players on the team. And then their job is to score goals, not hit players.
  17. I had no idea this forum had started to hate Horvat so much.
  18. Security is one thing, and I'm typically very pro-player, as I've stated on this forum before. But this only goes as far as the players being professional. Regardless of their situation or circumstances, all the players should be trying as hard as they can and doing whatever it takes to help the team win. If their work ethic is poor for whatever reason, that requires some type of man management or discipline. It's one thing if a player is struggling due to lack of confidence or some other psychological concern. It's another thing if they're simply unsure about getting traded or not.
  19. It is hilarious how people here pile on the hate after one stinker. "He has been garbage all year!" They should try and name a backup who can put up solid numbers like Halak.
  20. But he has totally held up his end of the bargain. You're suffering from recency bias. His save percentage was totally fine before the nightmare against New York. In 9 8 games he was around .910, which is totally fine for a backup. You're saying .905 isn't very good - but then why is he getting a performance bonus at that level? You can suggest he has been crap, but the stats and expectations speak for themselves. He was expected to play at least 10 games and put up at least a .905 sv%. He has played 9 games so far at .903%. He is doing just fine. Quit being petty.
  21. The Armstrong ruling strongly states Humphries didn't get a fair crack at the harassment claims. It basically re-opens the investigation all over again. At the end of the day, this should look bad on Canada. When a multiple gold medalist defects to another country and ends up grabbing another gold medal, it's on us to figure out what went wrong.
  22. Yes. Halak has a performance bonus for holding a .905 sv%. Something you actually pointed out - thank you! The man has put in the work. The man has also put in good work and is about to earn the money promised for said good work. What kind of business signs someone to a contract with a bunch of performance bonuses... and then proceeds to do everything they can to stop that person from earning those bonuses?? That is not how business is conducted anywhere. It is such a low level of pettiness in response to Halak's valid and professional response. The more I think about it, the more I think your suggestion would be illegal. Both the NHL and the NHLPA would not be happy with it.
  23. Of course they can keep trying. In the case of Edler last year, apparently that discussion was brought up super late - the week of the deadline. Typical Benning move to try and trade a 15-year veteran without any notice. For a one-year player, I think it's best to just bite that bullet and move on to other options. Preventing a player from hitting his performance bonuses by benching him is an pretty underhanded move. There should be a minimum level of dignity and class in the Canucks organization. Your cutthroat tactics would fall below that bar. Also, way to tactically avoid my response about how Halak has performed well and is about to hit all his bonuses, yet you keep sputtering off about how bad he's been. Halak has 100% held up his end of the bargain, and now you are suggesting the front office do everything in their power NOT to hold up their end.
  24. Halak has a legitimate right to say no. As Canucks fans we think these NMCs are worthless letters added to the ends of contracts. They're not. They are earned by veterans who've done the dirty work in their earlier days and now want a bit of stability in their lives. The change in management means nothing. He is a well-respected professional athlete putting in the work and doing his best. He is also exercising a right that was specifically laid out in his contract. If you think Halak should've expected management to try and move him, then management should've also expected the likelihood of Halak saying no. Besides, he isn't even playing that bad. On the one hand, you're suggesting Halak hasn't performed. Which is absurd, since you've just admitted he is extremely close to earning all his performance bonuses. He has been used as a reliable backup, and has put up stats as expected by management. He has quite literally done his duty and deserves to get paid. Now you're suggesting front office do everything they can to block that from happening? Put simply, it would be underhanded and unprofessional.
  25. 16 hours ahead (or 8 hours behind so I do less math)... another brutal time difference but I guess my late nights will always be exciting.
