  1. I might've exaggerated that a bit there. It was her against the tennis world. Tournament officials, players (including her friends), media, and neutral tennis fans turned on her hard. I'd chalk some of it up to her original IG post that kicked the whole storm off. It was poorly worded and seemed to speak for all players. That forced all the players to actually craft a response, and suddenly Naomi was left without many allies. She is one of the shiest players on tour and probably one of the most shiest athletes in the world. She has an unfiltered, honest candor to her interviews that makes her adorable in the eyes of many. But it's still probably hard for her to make friends, and it was clearly a challenge for her to get her words out in front of the media. This is just my take on things, of course. But there was an insane amount of drama that played out (a whole reddit fiasco with her sister). Now here's where we will have to agree to disagree. Where you see defiance (in her withdrawal announcement) I see capitulation. It's a dignified defeat to be sure (Osaka kinda sucks on clay), but she did get bullied into this. Osaka wasn't just bluffing, she has probably suffered one of the most miserable weeks of her life, and this has left a massive stain on tennis. We have now lost the face of women's tennis for an indefinite period of time. I suspect she will now also skip Wimbledon at the end of this month. This is probably the worst take here so far. What really happened couldn't be further from the truth. The tournament officials were throwing shade at her once the tournament started and straight up threatened to boot her out if she kept skipping. That's how controversial this became. You are also trivializing mental health. She is suffering from depression. You can't just have a "quick recovery" as the tournament president wished Osaka yesterday.
  2. I think some folks here aren't quite grasping what it means for her to withdraw from RG because of this. To withdraw from a grand slam for any reason beyond injury is a huge thing. To do it because she felt overwhelmed by the pressure and negativity is... disheartening. "Good for her" doesn't really capture what happened. This is someone who crumpled under the public pressure and the hate directed at her. Osaka is the biggest star in women's tennis, and she is also the shiest player in sports. She wanted more privacy so she focus playing in a huge tournament she has always struggled in. What played out was a PR disaster where it was Osaka vs. the world. Some of it falls on her, and some athletes love feeding off the hate, but this is the saddest outcome. She got bullied into quitting.
  3. Nah the Avalanche is an absolutely BROKEN team where passes are like magnets, shots are like cannons, and speed is their middle name. We are quite literally a broken team.
  4. You're not getting it. It is unfair for one player to get the punishment he deserves and another to get close to nothing. It's not justice if Kadri gets 8-10 games, Edler gets 2, and Wilson gets none.
  5. How can you say that? You have to ask yourself why Kadri is getting 8 (or 10 games) and other players are getting slapped with measly 5k fines. The DoPS makes absolutely no sense.
  6. Kadri is right to appeal this suspension. The NHL's DoPS is a joke in regards to consistency. There is no doubt Kadri deserved all 8 games, but why are other players like Wilson getting absolutely nothing? He is not the only scumbag in the league, but he's the only player that's been punished like one.
  7. "YOU CAN'T THINK I WAS GONNA DO THAT AGAIN FOR A THIRD TIME, DID YA?" Our boy Kadri two months ago on Spittin' Chickens harharhar
  8. You know what? They are still athletes in excellent health. They're a bit skinny from all that running but give them a few months in the weight room and they'll be ready. PUT THEM ON THE ICE
  9. You are comparing yourself as a fan to Trump followers... and you think that's a good thing? The Leafs cup drought is only 3 years longer than ours. And even they know when their team sucks and it's time for personnel to go. Remember "fire Wilson"?
  10. This is not some cult where fans blindly follow their manager to glory and oblivion. There's not a single sports team where its fanbase showcases that type of loyalty. That would be ridiculous.
  11. It is absurd to suggest that Quinn Hughes will be anything less than a top pairing defenceman in the next two years. He already is, and he will certainly get paid like one in the summer. Finding a suitable partner for him would help make our blueline far more deadly than adding Lindholm.
  12. Canucks "leading the way" in a return to 90s hockey? You must've forgotten how badly our players get burned by the NHL's DoPS. We will be leading the way in penalties and suspensions if we put a goon out on the the ice.
  13. That's not good enough. Every other Canadian team has either rebuilt or re-tooled faster than Vancouver has. How Benning is able to press the reset button as many times as he has is beyond me. We sucked well before the players got sick. Whatever is happening to Virtanen might actually let Vancouver off the hook for his contract. We had a third line centre in Adam Gaudette. He's been playing just fine for Chicago. He has better linemates because Stan Bowman has created a better team, despite their poor performance and albatross contracts. We simply won't have the cash to sign any good right wingers for good money and term because there's so much cap locked up elsewhere. Even after the contracts expire, there is no appeal to signing with Vancouver. I don't even see where the desperation was. The whole thing, as you said, made zero sense.
  14. We can't afford secondary scoring because of cap space. If Gaudette played well around talent, then he should've been put in that situation. Just like last year. A lot of eyes will be on Aquaman if some of the personnel don't get fired this summer.
  15. He put in a nice effort against Nashville that game. Got an assist off of a David Kampf goal. I assume they are letting him rest as he is probably not 100% fitness level yet.
  16. Like father, like son. You have to take the good with the bad.
  17. You're aware of why he's been getting scratched, right? The dude has a massive attitude problem. For him to play well he has to play aggressively and with emotion. But when that turns to frustration you get a madman who's out of control. His penalties are silly, selfish, and very costly for his team. Imagine just losing your temper, taking a double minor for bad behaviour and then a misconduct on top of it. You're gone for almost a full period. Puts you shorthanded and messes your lineup. The man is like his father. They are both hotheads that lose control and make their own team pay the consequences for it. Hard pass. Surely we are not in the business of policing this type of stuff? Jim Benning (my fav is Jet Black Jim) is NOT one of the holy Canuck figures. Maybe if he was insulting the Sedins or something...
  18. Yeah. We do have a broken health care system. Prescriptions, dental care, elderly care, and other services should not be entirely dependent on your private insurance. Some of you guys are arguing for a more privatized system. I think it should be even LESS private than it already is.
  19. Abbotsford wouldn't be able to sustain ticket sales against the Canucks, just like last time. Different circumstances of course, but I don't think they want that again. Any team here would jack up the team's transportation costs. It'd be impossible to bus around if it were on the Island. Logistically it makes better sense to place them somewhere in Southern Washington or Oregon. Dare I say... Vancouver, WA???
