  1. The poppy in Canada is attached to the Royal Canadian Legion. The Legion is not very well liked, especially by younger veterans from Bosnia and Afghanistan. Those younger vets are treated like crap. The vast majority of its membership is now civilian. They have their own medals. Most veterans do no join the Legion and rely instead on Veterans Affairs Canada. Our poppy's design is also trash. Firstly, it is plastic and they have no interest in finding a greener way to produce the poppies. Secondly, they are just poorly made. You will likely lose a few poppies over the 2 weeks and also get stabbed by the pin. Small inconveniences but the Legion has showed zero interest in improving the design. And so you have an unimpressive organization that has a monopoly trademark of the poppy in Canada. You cannot use the poppy as a symbol for remembrance without permission from the Legion. So they are not even the biggest veteran group and has picked up a bad rap over the years... why do they get to be in charge of how the poppy is used?
  2. Speak your mind. Cherry's brand of racism is nothing to joke about. What are your own thoughts on this matter?
  3. The Legion is far from what it used to be. Look into their control over the poppy symbol and their day-to-day operations and you'll find yourself quickly looking for a different veterans organization. VAC has been great for vets. As for Cherry... there are a lot of folks here who think what he said isnt that bad. Get a grip on reality - he is a garbage human being who wants to rule up hatred against immigrants. He is going straight after them. If you think it's okay to go on national TV and shame everyone of colour who isnt wearing a puppy, then you are probably garbage too. Cherry doesnt care if white people dont wear a poppy. He will never look at me and think of me as a good Canadian kid. He will look at me and think how lucky I must be to enjoy all that milk and honey. How I'm more compelled than others to wear the poppy... because I look different.
  4. I believe most curling clubs have these public newbie sessions on weekend afternoons or whatever. They are always trying to bring more people into the sport. I strongly recommend you bring the cowbell. Give no ****s.
  5. Nah... that's like telling hockey players to communicate less. I think the more annoying sport is tennis, where some players grunt loudly for no real reason. Go out and try curling for yourself if you have spare time. The sweeping is a bit of hard work but otherwise pretty chill. People dont yell like maniacs either. That kinda only happens at the top level or in important matches. Anyone who screams in a casual game is just a jerk.
  6. He will never even come close to consideration until he gets a lot better at faceoffs. It is one of the most important abilities of a defensive centre and probably the main reason Pettersson isnt used in defensive or PK situations. He 40% at the dot. My guess is that he will NOT even try to be the next Pavel Datsyuk. He will be like the next Patrick Kane or just someone very offensive and slick hands.
  7. I didn't know Rick Dhaliwal was still doing his thing. Anyways... time to put our Utica depth to the test!
  8. Is there a running joke I am missing here? Pettersson for the Selke? Him? Really? I mean, he is basically all offense and I'm okay with that. He is poor at face faceoffs, doesnt kill penalties and has very few takeaways/shots blocked. He doesnt even make a 30-man shortlist.
  9. Any legal wizards here who can help?  I paid a dentist's clerk in cash, which she counted and gave me a receipt.  Hours later I was told I shorted her $100 and that it would be an outstanding charge next time I visited.  She counted and gave me a receipt... and now this.  Is it fair for them to do this?

Basically what others have said, if you've got the receipt showing you've paid in full take it and talk to them. It's their businesses's reputation on the line. Poor reviews scare people away more than people realize.

@Bob.Loblaw Let us know how this ends up.  I'm curious if the dentist will try and shortchange you.

  10. "All things considered, the NHL DoPS has decided to not dish out additional discipline. We feel his deadweight contract and garbage play is punishment enough for the Calgary Flames."
  11. I love trolls. Nothing riles up CDC more than when someone trashes the team after winning.
  12. Different culture where they will do whatever they can NOT to inconvenience others. Can you confirm whether the drivers were still getting paid during that time?

  14. Damn 8 years and only 8 players left... who's left for our 2011 team? Edler, Schneider, Hamhuis, (?)Kesler(?)... 3 and a half players left. Wow.
  15. It's Connor McJesus. He will try his best to earn that mammoth contract.
  16. Neal does it again oh the humanity But look, guys! Milan is on pace for 500+ PIMs! That is grit and truculence.
  17. Lack of urgency, slow breakout and drop pass means you've just spent 25 seconds setting up the play (even when everything goes according to plan). Alex Edler is a great defenseman but his sluggish movement drives me absolutely nuts.
  18. Don't get me wrong - they're goaltending and lineup in general really shouldn't be able to sustain this pace. But just better them than us right now. That trade, people. Even then people were actually impressed that they unloaded Lucic.
  19. They actually started with two losses last year. This time they're on the right side of a streak. Levelheaded Oilers fans get that they probably won't grab all the points out of this 4-game road trip, but they got the first two. Better them than the nervous confidence we have over here.
  20. Okay, but do you think Canadian gov'ts at the local, provincial and federal level have done enough to combat man-made climate change? How great of an influence has the human population affected the earth's natural climate cycle?
  21. I would actually be okay if they did this on a regular basis and actually shed light on various govts doing nothing to stop climate change. Look at Hong Kong and their protesters. You have to go out there every day to send an actual message. A one-off like this won't do anything.
  22. Totally depends on this. Why are they giving such old guys so much term?
