  1. I dont think professional NHLers have any problem finding rink and resorting to pond hockey.
  2. I was making a reply but I sense you are not asking me in good faith. That is, I don't think you care what I have to say, since you've already made up your mind. If you are genuinely interested in this subject then a simple google search will pull up tons of legit scholar material. Maybe even YouTube might give you something, especially regarding yellowface.
  3. Yes but leave that alone. African Americans have had a rough ride. Blackface takes that struggle and turns it into a costume so you can look cool. As I've already said... Would you be okay if some kid was respecting Bruce Lee by yellowing his skin and slanting his eyes?
  4. Your mom sounds very wise. I understand where you are coming from. You loved Hendrix and wanted to emulate him in the best way possible. But blackface has a long, dark history. It is appropriation and exploitation. Today it is extremely offensive and disrespectful to a lot of people because of it. If you wanted to be Bruce Lee, would you have painted your skin and slanted your eyes? Would that be giving him the respect he deserves?
  5. Probably one of their best two-way players right now. I dont think you've been watching any Oilers games in the past couple years. He is a very solid player who is on a great contract.
  6. Sure there is. Just like you thought smoking was cool when you were a kid. Now it's all about vaping 3 Juuls at once. Nothing cool about the things you and I did in our schooling years either. Sucks to be teenagers today.
  7. I mean, he was still money last year. Totally could still hit 40 points this year, but good on him for taking care of himself. Easily makes my playoff roster.
  8. Good playoff run? They limped their way into the postseason and barely got the last wild card spot. Nobody actually wanted to match up against TBL. But the gods smiled upon their gusto and gave them an epic sweep. And what do they get in return? A completely gutted team. Forget hedging your losses and trading away Breadman and Bob. I can understand wanting to keep them for a playoff push. But actually going all-in with a team like THAT? It would've been infinitely smarter for management to stay the course. They were not contenders. Instead they completely sold the future and went nuts on the trade deadline. That is simply not how you manage a team. I would not be okay with Benning selling every prospect and draft pick just to push for a wild card spot. Would you?
  9. Keep telling yourself that. Ultimately you and I have no effect on Hockey Canada's big picture. But if they continue to act like a bunch of old men set in their ways, we will lose to the Swedes and Americans more and more.
  10. If the Canucks do not make the playoffs Benning is definitely going to get fired.
  11. Injuries will happen to our team, especially the blue line. We know Tanev and Edler are likely to go down at some point. The question is always whether the team can push forward despite injuries. The teams that survive make the playoffs. Pretty simple rule to live and die by, without much exception. Everything going right teaches a fanbase or team nothing about perseverance. It's about things going wrong and still gutting out wins. That's a team worth rooting for.
  12. Power forward culture is dying. The NHL is getting faster and smaller. Its biggest problem is that it is not getting safer. And no, self-policing isn't going to become a thing again. A proper reffing protocol and a proper disciplinary system can make the NHL an exciting, clean sport. We are not there yet.
  13. But in that sense it seems weird that the Caps won the cup many years into Ovechkin's career. Boston is a great example also. As long as a team is managed well with prospects and they move that cap space, they can stretch that window a couple more years. Or you can be like Edmonton and mismanage your team straight into cap hell.
  14. The title and thread have very confusing wording. Are you implying the world's shrewdest economists become player agents? And that they are trying to get their players paid the big bucks before we enter another recession?
  15. A couple things here. First is that I dont see the point of timeout forfeit if the first failed challenge penalizes the team. Then you've just lost your timeout AND you're down a man. Seems harsh. Which leads to my second point. If they're gonna burn coaches that harshly, you need to give them an extra 15 seconds on their tablets to make a challenge decision. Raising the stakes should mean more time to decide. You can see that a lot of these rule changes are almost completely reactionary to the playoffs. The Eakin-Pavelski high stick play can now be reviewed. The Eriksson goal can now be reviewed. The Perron goal with the Bozak hit cannot be called back, though. This is going to happen again, and I can see the NHL putting that rule in next summer.
  16. Suuuuree We can all trust Carrie Lam to do the right thing.
  17. Sometimes stubborn support pays off. I remember those days of supporting the Craptors. Supporting Bosh. Bargnani and Calderón. Gay and Patterson. DeMar. I was actually choked over the trade. What can I say now but... WE THE NORTH
  18. Honestly, I would've started getting testy with them. I've been on teams where we get blown out. Fine with that. But if they start rubbing it in our faces like the USWNT did, I start looking for revenge. I dont care if they are bigger and faster - my emotions get the better of me. The scoring is fine. No shame for playing hard to the final whistle. There will be greater challenges for them up ahead.
  19. But what doesn't bode well is that 13-0 from USA v. Thailand. Canadian media is going hard on the Americans for celebrating too hard and being disrespectful to their opponent. It's weird because I understand the immense pressure and injustice. They are the faces of women's soccer and have worked hard to get even this much attention and exposure. And I still hate them for their arrogance, front to back.
  20. You have to understand that most kids who are bullied mercilessly dont turn out that well, though. I am happy for you, but no education system is going to be okay with their schools if there is extensive bullying going on. Now what the school today is not teaching is teaching kids how to cope. And by that I mean cope with anything. There is no struggle, and imo no room for personal growth. Less and less responsibility put on the child. But some of the opinions on this forum are quite harsh. I respect what the article criticizes about dodgeball. As a P.E. sport it does not improve personal growth but merely survival of the fittest and a showcase for the strongest. That is not a good activity to promote exercise for everyone.
