  1. Every other Canadian hockey city for rooting against Vancouver in the finals (WPG exempt). People simply did not want Vancouver to win. They treated us as though we were somehow not Canadian. And yet they back any other Cdn team? Screw them all for that betrayal. I'm not rooting for any of their teams for "Canada"'s sake.
  2. Benning has never fleeced anyone in a trade before. He's not about to start here. The OP is way off in trade value.
  3. He is precisely that. A dependable second line centre who is deserving of the 6 million during his prime years. Boeser is probably going to get $7 million. Just accept it.
  4. Not an easy life to fight forest fires. Cook the tofu he has brought and move on. Instead we have this madness.
  5. Basically they did him dirty. This is just the consequence of that. Guy buys tofu, doesn't see it again. Guy gets vegan burgers, and then gets it handled with meat. Sure hes making a bigger deal out of it, but wars have been started for much less.
  6. These playoffs have already cast a large shadow on the regular season. Hockey is a sport of chance and luck. Even when a team like Tampa works hard all summer to make a great roster and crushes the regular season, they get rolled unexpectedly in the first round. But even then, Columbus earned a spot. Vancouver did not. Our team was not good enough and undeserving of a chance for the cup. Ottawa was undeserving. First figure out a way to include Montreal, who DID deserve a chance but the current format denied them that.
  7. How dare you insult the Kingdom of Saud they are our strong allies and leaders in human rights
  8. When alternative energy sources were being discovered here in NA (shale, bitumen), OPEC plummeted the price of oil. Now the shale industry has died, and the oil sands are a mess right now. The Saudis know what they're doing. And they have such strong control over the market that there isnt much we can do about it.
  9. His world in the books has become a mess. Yes, he is getting writer's block because he only has two books left to wrap everything up and tie up his infinite loose ends. What I'm saying is that he deserves some of the blame for season 7 and 8 not meeting expectations. D&D had no choice but to keep writing despite their lack of source material. GRRM owes it to himself and his own creative work to just finish the damned books. If he has had such a block for so long, then pass it off to a successor. Because he is 70 and unlikely to finish them. Cersei has convinced herself she is a master manipulator. But you have to remember she is written to be incompetent. She is vengeful and makes rash decisions. She is only half as smart as she thinks she is. But... she is also not afraid to use sex to get what she wants. Did she have to sleep with Euron? Hard to say.
  10. The more I think about it, the more I think the blame falls on George RR Martin. I understand if he took a little extra time in getting the material out, but he knows his story is ****ed. His last two books were not well-written and his side plots have spun out of control. Now he has to tie everything up in two books... all because of a mess he made. How much can be blamed on D&D? Once the series took off, certainly they didnt expect Martin to come out with NOTHING new since their first season. 8 years and nothing new. If JK Rowling didnt finish her books, the Potter movies would have been screwed. They would still have to make the films, and the writers would have no choice but to come up with random things. This has been the outcome for D&D. Sure, they suck at this, but GRRM deserves flak for not keeping up his end of the bargain.
  11. The Raptors lost control because their players ran out of gas. The Bucks did not play well but their depth helped their starters get the needed rest and crush us in the 4th quarter. There is a fleeting rumour of Carmelo Anthony considering a return to New York. How exciting it must be to be a Knicks fan today.
  12. This is basketball. Unless there is something that happened in the last few possessions, games are decided by multiple momentum swings. Powell's miss deserves criticism for sure, but he only played 10 minutes. And there lies the problem. What the hell happened to our bench depth? We are supposed to have excellent backup guards (McCaw, Lin, Meeks, VanVleet, Powell). I understand Nurse's hesitation to use his bench - they did nothing. But Toronto's problem is that they're forced to overuse their starters. Leonard was tired. Gasol was tired. Siakam was tired. Bucks had extra rest from last series and then they had better bench scoring. Their starters got good rest going into the 4th and it really showed.
  13. I think Swedish people have one of the strongest grasps of English as a second language. Think of another country (where English is not native) that has better grammar and a better accent than Sweden's. Maybe that is just my lack of exposure to Finns and Danes, but I'm sure WPG thinks the same way. But I also think it depends on who you hang with as well. I know that guys like Ehlers and Laine have really picked up their English since the draft. Even Nail Yakupov had the best English from a Russian before he went back to the KHL. I have grown up with a few ESL friends. Some of them didn't focus on learning the nuances of the English language and didn't hang out with Canadians. Others did just that and now English is like a 1B language to them. If that makes sense.
  14. Jon Snow burnt his hand throwing a lantern at a wight. But it is season one stuff. None of that matters anymore... not with this crap.
  15. Two years ago, the Ottawa Senators were an overtime goal away from making the cup final. Even then there were signs (poor playoff attendance, Burrows trade, Alfredsson debacle), but it took a year for us to truly realize how ****ed of a franchise they were. Two years later and it's even worse. The Duchene trade, the Eriksson trade, the Hoffmann scandal, the Uber scandal, the Stone trade, the firing of Boucher... did I mention Melnyk, the best owner in the NHL? Not much has changed from that team in terms of management. Bryan Murray was not a very good GM. Dorion inherited a mess. But he has somehow made things even worse. The most positive thing he could come up with this year was "We're a team". But of course, as long as you make the conference final, you have a well-managed team. Unlike WSH or TBL or WPG. It is like saying Columbus is a better-managed team than Tampa because of the sweep. They gutted their future to go all-in and now their core is going bye-bye. But at least they won their first series so I guess it must be okay. You are correct to say Carolina has turned the page. Dundon has been great for the franchise's survival (football fans may disagree). Don Wadell and Rob Brind'Amour have done a great job assembling a young, exciting team led by cup veterans. But you must also understand that they have gotten lucky with McElhinney and Mrazek between the pipes. They are playing well, but this is the sport of hockey. To quote Ray Ferraro, a team can have "more talent, more all-stars, more everything than we do", but guts and pure luck can get you a lot further in this sport than basketball or baseball. TL;DR - A deep playoff push can sometimes say a lot about team management, but it can also say nothing. Hockey is a sport of luck. Carolina has just turned the page with new owner/GM/coach but it takes multiple years to be considered a "well-managed team". You'd think someone with 50 years of hockey experience would've figured that out by now.
  16. Hahaha Carolina good management!?!? You must be new to hockey. That team has been utter garbage this past decade. They had a ten year playoff drought. Their ownership was going down the toilet and the team was about to move AGAIN. Their goaltending was trash. It has been a long and painful rebuild process for them, but I guess you can say it's finally paying off. They have formed one of the best blue lines in the NHL. They are finally exciting! But bear in mind... they bet on Scott Darling and failed. They are very lucky to have okay goalies this year. The Skinner trade sucked. I am happy for them. They are fun to watch (traditionalists can suck it) and the new ownership has done well. But to put them in the same boat as SJS and BOS is crazy. You should've said Nashville.
  17. I don't think our population is dense enough. Greater Vancouver sprawls outward. There is a lot of land for our transit system to cover. And we are not a very large city anyways. Even with an ever increasing amount of commuters (people cannot afford houses in Van), ridership is not super high. And then you have people who are stupid and don't believe in paying taxes for public transit. Imagine the outrage of making it free.
  18. You're crazy. Quenneville is probably one of the highest paid coaches right now. He wanted to enjoy some time off... his last chance before his eventual retirement. He did not settle for Florida. He was the John Tavares of coaches this offseason.
  19. The atmosphere is realistic enough. Dark and very smoky. No visibility. It's war. But Game of Thrones is television. Entertainment. The decision not to have strong lighting was a poor one.
  20. A lot of people here are theorizing using book characters or the introduction of just someone new. That's not happening with such a short timespan. The story is going to come to a close using all the current pieces left in play. Others are saying the lighting was okay. It was not. I honestly think they used the dark and the smoke to do less work on the cinematography. It's a show. You need light even when there is none. Night battles can be enjoyable on screen. This one was not.
