  1. No more book theories, no more new characters, folks. The episode was too dark and smoky. Nobody actually enjoys watching shadows run around. And we are not watching for realism.
  2. We should be having this discussion before the playoffs. The first round shouldn't have an impact on how we think about these coaches and their regular season performance.
  3. They thought they were getting recyclable products but ended up getting rotting garbage and used diapers.
  4. I don't get the hate for Couture. He's soft-spoken, a hard-working, clean two-way player. He's ugly, but we have ugly players too. He is nothing like Marchand.
  5. Let's see how good Benning really is with re-signing players. The core of this team needs to get paid in the next couple of years. Horvat has a great contract. But our GM has also made some very poor decisions in free agency. My biggest fear this offseason is that he'll give out millions to another deadweight player we cannot afford going forward.
  6. I don't think I want to see Benning do any more free agent signings. He is very weak in this regard.
  7. Such high expectations placed on Jett Woo here... top pairing D-man? That's crazy hype.
  8. Zero weight gain he will be the superior Mason Raymond
  9. @Slegr Edler is almost 10 years younger and you think they are at the same points in their career.
  10. One must wonder why he doesn't just live here. His family must be well off to do hockey in Japan, so just have him live here and try to develop him in Canada.
  11. Okay guys. So be it. Let Benning burn the first year for the sake of starting off on the right foot. Then I suppose there's no point in even asking what the criteria is then. The rules behind that are still very unclear to me.
  12. I dont see your point with Seattle. I do understand that Boeser would demand more money after three successful seasons as opposed to just two. I get that he will probably earn a little less because Benning burned the first year.... ... is what I would like to believe. Benning is a mercurial GM. Sometimes he is really good and sometimes he just isn't. If burning the first years of Boeser and Hughes means we save a bit of money when we re-sign them to 8-year big boy contracts, then that's a win. But it has to make a difference or otherwise the first years were burned for no reason.
  13. I feel like this must have been talked about in detail somewhere in this thread, but I am honestly concerned with this. Brock Boeser played 9 games and burned a year on his contract. Benning is treating Hughes the same way here. I do not understand why Benning is always so eager to get the college guys straight into the NHL, especially when the team isn't a playoff contender. The only reason we are pushing this year is because the West is incredibly weak. If things go right the rest of the season (so far it hasn't), then we will be a wild card. But we really need one more year to finish that rebuild. We do not need Quinn Hughes to be this year's 11th hour hero. To burn his first year would be as pointless as what Benning did with Boeser. My other concern is whether Hughes plays out the rest of the year with the Comets and plays 10+ games. Will that burn his first year?
  14. Could've gone to Werder Bremen. He should play well but I'm confused as to why he didnt go to Europe.
  15. When someone has played for a club for their whole career and really put it all on the line for them, then you let them leave in style. If they aren't playing well and you want to move on, you let them retire at the end of the season. Don't let them play on a different team in the same league. Let them play in Sweden if they want to keep going. The point of all this being that calling sports a business is too cliche. Now the Raptors not only have the dubious reputation of being the cold Canadian team up north, they will now be known for betraying the only franchise player who actually committed to them.
  16. Sometimes it's about doing the right thing and letting your old guys go on good terms. Now DeRozan is a player in his prime who was nonetheless betrayed by his ball club. Free agents don't care about coming up to Canada... do you honestly think this drama is going to encourage suitors to sign with TOR? I think it's going to be even harder for the Raptors to sign FAs and I think our future franchise star is more likely going to leave after his contract is up. Unlike DeRozan, who was the only guy in franchise history who committed to Toronto and Canada. If you are too forward and too aggressive, your club doesn't build a culture or prestige. A team like that won't have any fans. Look at Ottawa right now. A team can't treat its heroes like trash and not expect any backlash. Call it a business as much as you want. I am not going to root for a hockey team or basketball team that treats its most loyal players like bait. You will never get away with that type of garbage in European sport, where they take things way more seriously and way more personally than here. Again, casual fans don't know who Siakam and Anunoby are. ACC isn't going to fill seats with those names.
  17. There are lot of people saying this is just a business. That sports is just a business. **** that. The Toronto Raptors have certainly lost my business. Sports is more than just a business. We are on a fan forum. We idolize the players on our team. We are not robots. We take things personally. Any owner or GM who completely ignores their team culture will be in trouble. Don't tell me that people aren't giving Trevor Linden slack because of what he did in the past. Don't tell me that people gave Henrik and Daniel slack because of what they did in the past. The twins' swan song wasn't business. It was a defining last chapter for them, their family, the fans, and the franchise. You've watched them grow as baby-faced teenagers into grown, mature men. Now... just imagine if they were traded at the deadline for a second and third round pick. Those are high-value picks we're missing out on at the expense of a couple 37 year olds finishing out the season. From your viewpoint, this is bad business. Not trading is what made the Sedins proud to retire as Canucks. It's what made the fans proud of their team and its great history. And it's what ultimately improved the Canucks brand. While I can't speak from a player-team perspective, I know that when a team throws away a franchise player (especially a loyal one), the consequences can be catastrophic. PK Subban. Wayne Gretzky. Babe Ruth. Sometimes when the value is there (the infamous Celtics-Nets trade), it's worth trading. In this instance, it's a poor business decision. Kawhi Leonard wants to go to L.A., and he will likely do so in one year. Management straight-up cucked DeRozan and lied to him about his security on the team. He's the only superstar that's really showed any loyalty to the Raptors franchise and they just traded them in really poor fashion. And if you think the fans will be excited about this, think again. Assuming Leonard leaves TOR next summer, I predict draft lottery right after that.
  18. I've rooted for the Raptors since the really bad years with Bosh and Gay. With the Grizzlies moving and Expos games never being played the Toronto teams became Canada's teams by default. The only reason they're being marketed like this is because both teams are pretty competitive (first time in forever). I am completely okay with this. Hard to root for another team when I can't watch their games.
  19. Groups C and D are flaq quizzes. I mean WTF are some of those countries lol
  20. I read Yahoo Sports for everything. Less than 24 hours ago they were gushing over the previous win and how this is a golden generation (with your precious golden boy from Dortmund). I come home, back from the Canucks game and OH GOD WHAT DID I JUST MISS I see that Johnson was not on the team these past weeks. That is truly mind-boggling.
  21. Howard to Charlotte for... Miles Plumlee and Marco Belinelli?? And a late pick? Superman sucks now.
