Loved your post - with the exception of calling ‘Ron MacLean’ a superstar. His villification of Burrows in support of a justly disgraced & discredited former NHL referee & then enabling Don Cherry’s pro-Bruins-brand of hockey propaganda to proliferate across this nation for the majority of his CBC tenure - is frankly unforgivable. He chose to vilify Canada’s last 2011 team standing, to all Canadians coast to coast, simply to appease an NHL BOG President for his contractual security. Well, that apparently back-fired when the following year, true hockey fans & corporate sponsors protested on mass. His incessant name-dropping & appeasing of “the man” only gets Ron so far….& when/where character mattered, he was on the wrong-side of history attempting to vilify & demean players & persons of such quality as the Sedin twins. ^He wears that shame forever & cannot be lauded with any praiseworthy superlatives, as a result.

Should we wait to see if Brandon Sutter re-emerges after it is known that the Canucks may or may not be making the play-offs? Probably shouldn’t joke about someone legitimately struggling to return to the game. And - he would not be as big of a play-off score as “Mr. Stamkos” & Mr. K were in Tampa Bay in subsequent years, but what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, eh?. It’s clearly a way to hide your aging veterans on expiring contracts, who may still wish to take a run at a cup with your team…yet not wish to put in a full season, in order to be much healthier to do so. ^LTIR-Cheating-the-Cap-gate

Yet, they wouldn’t let a legitimate long-term creative contract stand by grandfathering it in & our non/O-6 or southern US market Canucks got screwed-over with recapture penalties on Luongo’s contract. This league is so controlled by insiders. By a pack of old-school insiders. I’m hoping that Rutherford has amassed enough clout that can be extended to cover all of the affronts Aquilini has made to those very same power-mongers. We may not be an old-school franchise, but perhaps it’s time for the more progressives to rule the day! Other keys to victory is the favour of the NHLOA & who assigns officiating crews, or who is appointed to sit upon the DPS & helps to levy suspensions. Right now, the DPS doesn’t seem to have enough regional representation upon it….or term limits. With league parity, these variables can easily exert influence & help decide hockey games, play-off spots, series & Scup/winners. And when it gets bad, you’ve got to wonder if it’s merely a series of poor calls & some mildly biased decision-making by certain zebras or is it a calculated effort to interfere in the process & favour certain teams & marketplaces over others. Where there’s investigative smoke there’s fire & the NHL’s head office, board rooms, back rooms & chat rooms are full of smoke & noise! (Campbell-gate, Auger-gate, Fraser-gate, Brian Burke’s consultation-fee-rewards program, the NHL’s violence/anti-violence mixed-messaging in the Mark Messier leadership award, etc) cough* cough* cough*

I hear ya! How they could have let the situation drag-on so that the fans actually needed to demand Benning’s firing en-mass in a chant, is beyond me! A few turn-around wins even a week earlier, may end up being the calculated difference. Aquilini’s hesitancy is to blame if they fall short. But, they are making a charge forward & their faith in one another & in this coach is something to admire. It’s seems far & away from the position they were in just after the Christmas break.
