    Good grief!  Myers just positioned & standing still & like any good hockey player had his stick on the ice! FLA dude skates over top the stick blindly looking back & does some acrobatic worm dive!
     

    Oh yah,..that’s way more ‘legit’ than the non-call when Pearson went down &without all of the ‘bonus’ scoring chances involved.

    First & last questions being asked & answered in this sit-down are all about fights & fighting. Burkie’s  KB3 story at the end says it all. 
     

    Both guys are from a by-gone era. Their chat says a lot about the way things were. Now the NHL signs a lot more of their kids mature & out of college, where they call it “smart” hockey. 
     

    Where both Cherry & Burke got the majority of their pride, bravado & inexhaustible amount of hot air is no longer found in the same way or in the same places, today.

    I don't think all of your facts are entirely accurate in your post, namely the following;

    - Mike Gillis, who was Bure’s agent, proved in court that the Vancouver Canucks dealt with their star/player unfairly = This is just business and it reflects worse on Bure and Gillis if business dealings forced Bure to want to leave. Most players go through tough contract discussions at some point of their careers.

     

    - 4-game suspension to Aron Rome.......essentially neuteuring the Canucks defence = Unfair as the suspension seemed, Rome was a borderline NHL player as depicted after his exit from Vancouver where he had a short NHL career thereafter. If anything neutered the defense it was the loss of Dan Hamhuis and a lack of depth on the Gillis built team. That hurt the team immensly.

     

    - Why then was the son of Brian Burke on a committee deciding suspension-lengths and/or monetary penalties to players/teams as a short-serving team scout? VAN received controversial suspensions to mild-mannered players like Edler & Hansen while serial bad-boys like Marchand & Lucic received fines only. = Edler is not a mild mannered player, in his prime he always played near the edge which is what made him effective. Marchand and Lucic have lengthy suspension histories.

     

     

     

    I am not implying Burke is perfect as he has likely made a lot of mistakes as have we all. However, he is fiercly competitive, outspoken and loyal to those close to him. To a large degree his outspoken nature probably cost him his job in Vancouver but he did establish the core of players that gave us the exciting 2011 playoff run.

    I think that a number of your points reflect back on Mike Gillis more so than Brian Burke. Gillis as an NHL outsider and union guy created a lot of friction with other General Managers, the league and Canucks alumni.

     

    Brian Burke’s vindictiveness caused him to lose my respect, over time.


    I used to admire Burkie’s savy  tenacity, good humour & frankness, but now I just see him as another old-school power-brokering bully of the league, who regularly abuses that power to gain unfair advantages for his allies & punish his perceived enemies. Sounds Trumpian, right? Do you see the parallels? 
     

    Advocating that players police themselves thru on-ice fighting & vigilante-justice, is essentially asking them to model in-game violence for their kids & other amateur players, and this is something Burke regularly does. That messaging is contrary to the NHL’s own rule book & code of conduct, where the participants agree to respect & obey the rules of the game & “the best officials in the world” (on & off the ice) as a matter of contractual agreement with their employers & their fellow union bros. It’s an ironic juxtaposition to all of the anti-concussion advocacy Burke & his family members profess to be doing. It is NOT ‘dishonourable’ at all to misrepresent ‘law & order’ in hockey, according to Brian Burke however, who in his own lawyer-speak prefers to use words like ‘truculence’ instead of ‘violence’ to play-down the real effects of vigilantism in hockey-culture & society.

    ^This was also the guy setting standards for on-ice conduct as a  former league-sheriff. Now, he advises anyone who will listen to him, in the absence of rock ‘em - sock ‘em, Don Cherry. In fact, Burke’s arrogant North American hockey-guru act is often in full ‘Neanderthal’ fervor - even in this new era of helpful technologies, scientific knowledge & what-should-be-more medical enlightenment.

     

    Burkie lays claim to being a feisty Irishman. He admits to vices & jokingly states his son will be expected to carry-on his father’s grudges, after Brian’s own death. Before that happens tho’ - please have him answer a few simple questions to be more accountable to Vancouverites, media-types & the more-principled hockey community….making up the majority of folks whom he’s either burned or cheated, along the way. 


    ^Admit to all of the reported interventions, pressurings & manipulations of on/off ice officials -  please! Acknowledge being an integral part of a biased O-6/So-Cal voting block that still exists at the helm of the NHL’s Head Offices, today. All the consultation (lobbying) fees paid to Burke over the years, by these particular teams, already speaks volumes.


    An honest confession, accompanied by a few suggestions on how to fix things…via term-limits, perhaps, upon DPS members, BOG executives & the Head of Officiating…would also be sweet!  
     

    Converting one stubborn curmudgeon at a time is the goal. Altho’ Burke has been meddlesome at ‘key’ times in Canucks’ history, he did help to build a successful organization here in the beginning alongside the legendary Pat Quinn,..only to doggedly entrench systemic biases against this organization, after twice departing. He also resisted those more  reforming efforts of progressive GMs/owners to the extent that he effectively helped to rob our glorious Sedins of their best chance & opportunity to raise a SCup here in VAN. 
     

    On the night Brian Burke wept during the Sedins’ jersey-raising ceremony, I hope it signalled some ‘remorse’ for his more selfish & vindictive acts,..that may have indirectly harmed, for awhile, the Sedins’ league-wide reputations, careers & long-term legacies.
     

    The Sedins WILL assuredly become  hall-of-famers someday - despite men like Brian Burke continually choosing to tip-the-scales in favor of different kinds of players/men. I, for one, believe certain administrators like Brian Burke should be feeling a little  embarrassed…if not totally ashamed of themselves for that.

It was an infamously bad deal for Abbotsford. Even so, he would not help Abby, VAN or the Aquilinis, negotiate a fair arrangement to make a franchise switch, even as attendance remained poor. 


    - Burke was fined for tampering, in speaking with both Sedins prior to them becoming free-agents & while he was GM for TOR. It was reported he floated talk that VAN management was trying to trade away their closest teammates, (Bieksa & Burrows), to lure them into signing with TOR. 


    - after being consulted in the 2011 SCup/Final Burke recommended a 4-game suspension to Aron Rome for a borderline-hit to a previously-concussed Nathan Horton, essentially neuteuring the Canucks defence for the remainder of the series (after a same game series ending injury to Dan Hamhuis was known).


    - Burke was responsible for drafting & selling to the majority of league governors a series of make-whole cap-recapture penalties to teams giving out long-term contracts that aren’t played in full. This rule change went ungrandfathered & was Unquestionably unfair to the up-start non-O-6 teams, specifically VAN, who gave out large extended contracts to compete with the lure of O-6 teams to their free-agent star-players. 
     

    - When establishing the DPS, Brendan Shanahan noted it would be made up of long-serving persons of experience & expertise in the league and be a body of the players’ peers. Why then was the son of Brian Burke on a committee deciding suspension-lengths and/or monetary penalties to players/teams as a short-serving team scout? VAN received controversial suspensions to mild-mannered players like Edler & Hansen while serial bad-boys like Marchand & Lucic received fines only. What was up with that?!
     

    Boston-born Burke is also very tightly-knit with the BOG President & other league  head-office cronies like Colin Campbell - a man proven to have meddled with officiating matters concerning his son, who played for the Bruins.
     


    ^That’s not all, but it’s more than enough controversy for Burke to address & explain here, please.  
     

    I’m waiting for ^THAT book.

    He also has sent in players alone on net several times in the past two games... the fact they didn't convert is no reflection on his passing.

     

    He is not shooting as well as he used to.... we all know that... his percentage is way below his average, but if he can get back up to normal, he will put up the goals as well.

     

    But as Boudreau said, you don't get your best players going again by stapling them to the bench... you get them going by playing them.

    Just because EP is back from a season ending injury and playing once again, doesn’t mean he’s recovered 100%.
     

    As a university athlete, it took a couple of years before I recovered from a ruptured Achillies with regular physio & rehab. Being pain-free is quite a different thing from being “as good as new” or better.

     

    EP might be on a journey adjusting to his new normal, or still working to recapture that acute muscle memory & timing of his once amazing shot. 
     

    I wish him well, but Bruce shouldn’t be leaning on him exclusively to lead-out in shoot/out situations -  if or when better options present themselves, amongst his younger, & perhaps even more confident & eager players like Hogz or Podz. 
     

    That’s all I’m wondering…will our Canucks’ future-stars get some  experience in shoot-out situations vs the NHL’s elite goalies, soon, too?

    Bruce was playing psychologist,..but the money-call was not made at the crucial time. 


    That’s a fact. 
     

    In the long game, I don’t know what this will mean, either.
     

    Tortorella played Lack over Luongo, claiming it was the money-call in Vancouver’s “Heritage Classic” years ago,..but clearly playing in a rare stadium “Classic” game was really more of a tribute/reputation-prize or fan-experience event over some mere regulation NHL-hockey game.
     

    Tortorella’s heartless-ness missed that particular call badly, or perhaps his aim was to core-bust in that particular locker from the out-set.   
     

    This is where I will give credit to Boudreau for perhaps knowing   “something extra”, but he seemed to be holding-up a hoop for his star-player to jump thru, when all indications were that Petey’s marksmanship was simply not sharp in tonight’s game. I thought most coaches try to reward those players who have their mo-jo going,  during the game? 
     

    Also, there are other young Canucks’ players with the skill-set of shot-making, who need experience in NHL shoot-outs vs elite goalies, too. I just hope they eventually earn the nods from Bruce, to do so soon, too.
