  1. 1 more I forgot to mention I don't know how I left him off my list above but........

Anton Silayev. LHD this guy is huge 6'7 207lbs. Has come out of no where and is absolutely crushing the KHL with 6 points in his first 6 games wtf no really who is this kid? he's done relatively little in previous years to garner any attention then all of a sudden goes PPG in his first 6 KHL games. He only needs 14more in his next 24 games this season to beat Michkov. Hes already blown away the next highest scoring u18 D ever in the KHL by 4 points.

  2. I think the nux will be going for it this year.  This is now the 3rd year for this mgmt group who promised Aqua another re tool on the fly. I think it's pretty likely that they trade our 1st this year. In the event that we do keep our first the Canucks IMO need to add size with the IQ and hands to play with skilled players.

    FWDS

Simon Zether RHC 6'3 Former team mate of Willander. He's got NHL 2/3C written all over him. He will get SHL time this year as he's got good details to his game and 2 way ability. He's also just way too good for the J20 put up a hatty in his first game this season and currently has 4g 5a in 5 games. He's got an October b day which will make him one of the older kids in this draft class but also means as an incredibly young kid in the J20 Nat last season he went PPG and put up 6g in 6 playoff games. What I like most is he pretty much just has his way down low at this level.

Emil Hemming 6'2 RW was a standout at Hilinka his shot is wicked and can score from everywhere. Looks like a very worth while project.

Michael Hage 6'1 RHC He's got the total package we need in a 2 way C. He missed most of last season due to injury I think his ranking will rise into the top 15 but he's certainly one to watch. Works his butt off at both ends and has enough skill to punish teams stars when they get too cute with the puck.

Sacha Boisvert 6'2 LHC Skates quite well has NHL size and is slick with the puck on his stick. Ill be paying attention to him.

Matvei Babenko 6'3 RW Not sure where to rank him yet. He had a pretty good year last year in the MHL and has been promoted to the KHL he might be worth keeping tabs on.

    The D's

Cole Hutson listed  5'8 -5'10 143-160lb LHD IMO he's a top 10 pick with top 5 skill. He's gonna drop due to his small stature  how far I don't know but it better not be past us.  This kid is fire and doesn't shy away when the going gets rough. He's a "difference maker".

Adam Jiricek 6'1  RHD no way he makes it to us but a lot of rankings have him in the bottom half of the class right now so maybe there's a chance?

on to the more realistic targets.

Charlie Elick 6'3 RHD He's ticking all the boxes I am looking for in a shut down D that can hang with skilled players and log huge minutes.

John Whipple 6'1  LHD  Puck hound. He battles all over the ice if you're going to get by him you're going to have to earn it. He's got a decent shot from the point too.

My preliminary "late round" watch list.

Daniil Ustinkov 6'0 LHD playing in the Swiss NL and even laced up in 3 playoff contests last year for the Lions this kid is a late August birthday the Lions coaching staff must reallllly like this kid. Plus wicked name.

Adam Jecho  6'5 RW skates pretty well and claps bombs this kid is an absolute beast. We will see if the move to the WHL hurts or helps his draft stock sometimes these kids struggle adjusting to NA. If his stock drops we should snap him up.

Colton Roberts 6'4 RHD those of you are Giants fans will be familiar he's got some nasty and is excellent in transition. He is tidy with the puck in his own end.

Arseni Marchenko 6'6 monster LHD. It will be interesting to watch how the former captain of the Belarussian u17 squad adjusts to the USHL. I can't say I've ever seen him play but his stats lead me to believe he is going to be worth checking up on.

I'd tend to disagree. I recall Archibald famously telling him "work, work, work!" on the bench during one game. Probably too much to glean from one comment though. Either way, lazy or unwilling to do the details required--both will keep you out of the NHL.

seems to be fine for Kuzz

He's extremely skilled, but unless he's improved his work ethic, I don't believe he can make it in the NHL.

I don't think his work ethic was poor. He hit the gym hard and worked in the offseason. He just wanted to play loosey goosey and gave our coaches fits. he wasn't lazy though.

It's not just that, we overplay the first unit, give them the first 1:30-1:40, then as soon as they lose the puck the second go around, Myers jumps over the boards with only enough time to gain the zone, pass once or twice  and get at most one shot away, which almost always ends up giving them back possession, right when the penalty expires.   At least they shoot the puck though and aren't looking for the perfect play.   We haven't had a second unit since we traded Co-ho, and by then every team had the book on our first unit (went from 24. something, down well below 20 right away, and during the 2010-2011 season, the second unit was shoring up the first unit).   The peak Sedin era was good at keeping the puck and hemming in, but didn't score as many goals as people might think they did or remember.

    This ^

Brock is the wild card if he can get that shot back that he broke into the league with it will change everything. CoHoesque would be great heck I'd settle for Vanekesque.

  6. Honestly more so than anything else the guy who can make the biggest impact on the success or failure of our PP this year is Brock. If he can turn our PP2 into a weapon that needs to be respected we will feast on the PP. The reason our PP sucks is because our PP2 sucks. As long as the opposition can kill off the first minute their pretty much home free.

To Nashville: Anthony Beauvillier, 2024 4th (NJD), Linus Karlsson

Predators were bottom six in offense last season (before trading Johanssen and Duchene), averaging 2.7 goals per game.

They receive the best player in the trade, at the cost of ~$2.4M (of their remaining $7.9M) cap space. He’s young enough to re-sign and support the rebuild if he fits well. If not, he can return a higher pick at the TDL, as a proven playoff performer, to support the rebuild.

They receive a mid-round pick and a near-NHL-ready prospect, to balance the value of cap space.

    To Vancouver: Yakov Trenin

Canucks swap a middle six, skilled winger for a grittier, bottom 6 player PK'er , and $2.4M in cap space. Trenin adds size (6’2” 201 lbs) and toughness we’re missing and is the same age as Beau (26). He’s signed for one more year at $1.7M.

    SCOUTING REPORT

The Russian forward is as tough as nails and will drop the gloves with anyone. More than just a fourth-line scrapper, he has patience, vision and good playmaking skills. Plays well without the puck. Is still learning when to pass and when to take the shot himself. Can play either wing or center and is a solid penalty killer.

Long Range Potential: Big, tough two-way forward.

“One player on the Nashville Predators who doesn’t get nearly the amount of praise that he deserves for how important he is to the team is Yakov TreninBeing primarily a depth role player who plays hard minutes on the penalty kill, Trenin can sometimes be easily overlooked in the box score. However, if you watch the games closely, you’ll quickly discover just how vital Trenin is to this team and how it operates.

Trenin is the prototypical high-motor player that makes the most of every second he logs on the ice. He only gets an average of 14:08 of ice time per game, but still manages a lot of shots. He is sixth on the Predators in shots on goal with 80. He is on pace to set a career high in that category. The biggest attribute from Trenin is obviously his role on the penalty kill. A part of the team that has become a strength and calling card for the team. They commit a lot of penalties, but more and more they’re showing that they can be called upon to kill off some big penalties in critical moments. Trenin is never shy about laying out a big hit, either. He’s sixth on the team in hits with 97. He uses his power forward abilities to pressure puck handlers and often times creates scoring rushes of his own by powering his way up the ice like a bull in a china shop.”

    Would Nashville entertain this?

Would you be happy with this for the Canucks?

@Bob.Loblaw appreciate any insight on his advanced stats - especially the PK

I like this if we couldn't get Cole Smith, Trenin would be a great target. I think they win this trade but we get the capspace we need and a more balanced roster.

    thumbs up from me.

The Canucks can get under the cap if the send him down to the AHL. But obviously that would be a last resort rather than a trade

Only if they run a 22man roster. Which would be very bad management.

  9. I'd bring in

Gemel Smith. Great special teams PK/PP guy with wheels to keep up and ride shotty with some skilled guys, Right shot C went PPG and the AHL not an enforcer but willing to drop em.

ZAR The guy hits n PK's decent bottom 6.

Aaron Dell we seriously need a backup.

Derek Brassard He still moves pretty well 50% in the dot great 4th line guy put up 13g last year. Money on the PP.

Alex Edler lets try to get him another contract around the league. If there isn't one out there at least he retires a Canuck.

The remaining pieces from those deals:

Jim Benning must have absolutely hated the idea of Vancouver being a successful team.

    Thats your take away?

The nostalgia in me wants to see this happen...

Aqualini's buy the Pacific Coliseum and make that the Canucks practice facility. They upgrade it obviously and if possible build an addition that would give the players their fancy new gym, sauna/therapy rooms, pool and hottub with all the fancy best features for the players. Maybe allow fans to come to some of the practices where families can watch for cheap compared to attending an actual game. Season ticket holders get to see some practices I think...not sure maybe you can attend some practices already I really don't know!!!

This likely never happens but would be cool if it did imo...

why do they need an entire stadium to practice?

Imagine we kept OEL and he sat in the press box (healthy scratch) and a guy making 1.5 pkk kk sued his bottom pairing minutes. That’s close to 9 mil allocated to a sixth D man. The buyout was a must.

Wonder Florida signed him to sit in the press box?

Lol just because you couldn't stop comparing Kemell and Lekkerimaki doesn't mean anyone else was. But you were obsessed. Every conversation about Lekkerimaki you had to make about Kemell. It was boring by the time of the draft, it's insufferable by now. Kulich, Snuggerud, Ohgren, Yurov, all great prospects. I don't know why you insist on forcing everyone to talk about the prospect you want to talk about, especially when it was over more than a year ago.

Don't try to make it sound like I'm some Kemell-hater either. He's a fine prospect. But you should take it to the Joakim Kemell thread, maybe on a Nashville Predator forum.

I guess I just don't see why Kemell needs to be constantly brought up in a Jonathan Lekkerimaki thread on a Vancouver Canucks forum. We've been through it over and over. Talk to me about Liam Ohgren or Danila Yurov and maybe I'll be interested.

In 2022 at the draft the discussion most were having was Kemmel vs Leks for best shot in class. They were the guys being compared that year. If I were to bring up the other guys that wouldn't be relevant it would be like bringing up Kulich or Snug.

The discussion in 2022 was between JK and JL

Would be like saying we should have drafted Pasta instead of Virtanen.

The everyone but Virtanen Juolevi discussion seems the be fair game. I'll take the down votes. I want this team to win. I want a team nobody takes lightly.

  15. Party pooper here.

    Kemmel>Lekkerimaki

I'd like to see Lekkerimaki prove he is > Kemmel before we pat ourselves on the back. To me that's min 25g over 52. To come close to the 36g pace over 72 Kemmel put up last year in the AHL. 8G in 14 playoff to lead all rookies. If we extrapolate Kemmels 14g in 28games or 36g over 72 which would tie him 1 shy of 1st in goal scoring amongst AHLers. Of course this is just "pace" We will see what he does this year. Could we use a goal scoring pest in our top 9 right now?? How good would JK look on Miller's wing? Cough Beauvellier, Brock, Garland conundrum aside.

My guess is that we start to see Kemmel get NHL games this year and put up NHL goals and gain a rep for agitating NHL players maybe even get his first NHL suspension out of the way haha. We could use a Ruutu on our squad. While Lek's is still what 2 or more years out?

I'm really hoping Leks turns out and I have egg all over my face. Right now I have a hard time getting excited on Lekks I wish I shared your exuberance. To me he's a perimeter flyweight I can't see him playing w Pete and Miller needs guys who play the wall like Pearson did hopefully that's Pod and maybe Lek could fit on the other side? I have a hard time seeing where he fit's in our long term top 6. He's a bit more of what's already ailing our club soft perimeter winger's.

So far Bains/Raty look like the best FWD prospects MGMT has added cudo's those were shrewd acquisitions. I'll be watching a good amount or Orebro this year hopefully he will grow on me and I'll start to see this player you saw at 7oa. What I want to see is him take ice not just operate in the ice given to him because he won't have that ice given to him in the NHL.
