Glass half full. (Discussion)

So what you're saying is be patient with our prospects they may actually pan out if we allow them to grow over time and flourish. Got it! I think we agree. Maybe some kids don't peak at 21. -

Yikes "mercifully" is bit harsh. Why is the top scoring defenseman in franchise history the bar for Rathbone being able to to be a contributing factor for the Canucks. Makar is the obvious comparable. LoLz. We don't need Rathbone to be a top pairing guy. What we lack most on D is a guy other than OEL who can get a puck on net for a rebound. and a guy other than hughes who can transition the puck up ice other than Hughes. He doesn't need to play either of their minutes to be a contributor. The canucks needs aren't insurmountable what we need is a bottom 6 not littered with guys making 3+ mill and a bottom pairing D that can walk the line and keep pressure on until Hughes or OEL can catch their breath. I think we are close to having what we need internally without having to deal picks or overpay free agents. We "fans" need to be patient. Draft a homerun who dropps or trade down for Bichsel/Lammoroux + Jani Nyman/Owen Beck and cook them slowly like Pitty did with many of their late draft picks. Ideal world they play 2 years in the CHL or over seas and sign their ELC at 20yo making them 23 when they hit RFA. I think if we just stay the course hopefully win a few playoff rounds without any more inbound bad contracts and shedding dead wood in 2-3 years we may be in real contention. There is a nucleolus here that is just budding. -

Um yes we can. What we need to do is fix the future not the present. OEL Myers are an effective 2nd pairing. As good or better than most 2nd pairings in the league. I know you have a hate boner for Myers but I think youre holding mentally onto a few bad plays (OT dump in, bad pinch, missed assignment) and not really appreciating the player as a whole (Edler Syndrome). I won't argue Myers with you it's a waste of energy. Hughes Schenn this is great it's fire and ice. We could be paying 7-8m for a D partner for Hughes and only marginally improve that pairing's effectiveness. Enjoy it while it lasts our 1st pairing costs less than most teams 2nd pairing and is twice as effective. What we need is not a defense overhaul but a forward group that plays cohesively with better team systems. Look at Calgary's D are they elite? Yet they manage to hold us shotless through 2 periods. I'm not saying we need to go full Sutter hockey but we do need the forward group to contribute more defensively. I think you're looking at it wrong. We have a youthful top 6 group. It's not the end of the world that we don't have an upcoming super star in the minors sure one would be a luxury. But it's not as though our team is about to age out. What we need to be getting from our prospect pool are bottom 6 guys who can stop the hemoraging cap on grinders. We need Karlsson, Bains, Klim, Lockwood etc to end the era of Dickinsons. I have faith that they will. Have to think if something like that was on the table it would have been done by now. Potential Playoff rental? IMO we should be planning for Bo Millers next contracts if we end up too far apart on Miller we will need the cap space to trade for a top 6 player. -

Agree to disagree. I like Myers dispite the occasional mental gaffe he would be much harder to replace than you think and we shouldn't be throwing money at guys like Manson just compounding the problem. Plan for succession. -
I'm actually pretty optimistic about our prospect pool. Mark my words. Klimovich and Arshdeep are going to absolutely shred for Abby next year. These kid's are gamers and are exactly the kind of personalities we need to be inserting into our line up. I can't wait to see them earn their call ups. IMO I think we already have our Right Shot 3C I think JB........................ Got this one right! Linus Karlsson..... I've gone back and watched a a bunch of him. Completely ignoring the points I am incredibly impressed with his 200ft game. He's great in all 3 zones and somewhat reminds me offensively of Michael Samuelsson. I'm very excited to see him get a chance next year. Defense I think were sleeping on Rathbone..... Well most of us aren't but MGMT seems to be. I worry he will be a toss in on trade and we'll look a gift horse in the mouth. Lockwood boy I love this kid's devotion. He plays soooo hard somehow he needs to find a way to maintain his intensity without spending half the season in the infirmary. I guess what I'm saying is we've crossed the barrier..... We don't need bottom 6 vet's like Beagle, Sutter, Roussel, Dickinson, to some extent Pearson to shelter the developing Pete, Bo, Boeser, Pod, Hog. What we need is hunger and energy from a youthful cockey bottom 6 with something to prove. It's time that our top 6 prove their mettle and start burying teams in hard matchups. We need to take the next step.... It's time for the kids to make this their team! Looking at Pete and Bo...... With that being said I think with respect to Brock we try to make a deal there.... We can't be paying more than 4.75 for what he does. So it's kinda a non starter if we can't make a deal to send him somewhere in the Minni region STL/CHI/COL/CBJ/Nash or we do the right thing, shake hands and hope that he finds a fit in free agency anything over 5m is prohibitive to us making the deal IMO. I think we should spend the money we were hoping to spend on Brock 6-7m on Nichushkin who does all of the stuff Brock doesn't. Maybe he isn't a 30 goal scorer but he win's games and brings hard play consistently. If we are goin to ask our top 6 to play hard mins we need to give them the tool's to win those matchups. I say we go into next season with. Miller Pete Podkolzin Nich Bo Garland (5V5) Hog Karlsson Pearsson (Utility) Abby call up Lammiko Lockwood/Pest (Energy) Hughes Schenn OEL Myers Rathbone/Dermott Burr I'd leave the D alone and look to the future through the draft (Bichsel/Lamoureux) for a stabilizing big minute big nasty D to slot in when Myers contract expires. Demko/Martin I think we do playoff damage with this lineup.

Appreciate the nodd. I'm in full on work mode training greeners up for the season of forestry appraisals. Trying my best to work life balance with family. Haven't had much time for prospect watching lately. One number that really stood out without watching the games yet was Kulich 39 shots in 6 games seems like a fake made up number lol. Curious on your impressions of him. Looks like Mcgroarty did his job in tight 8G 1A sounds to me like a guy who planted himself infront of the net and buried greasy ones. looking forward to watching him and seeing how he got his point's. Is Lutz a sleeper in this draft?

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
hammertime replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sign Nich Brock? Miller Podkolzin Hoglander Pete Nichushkin Pearson Bo Garland Gadjovich Lammiko Zack Mack (Grumble Grumble) -
I basically got the same impression. Status quo! I think it's Rathbone time which excites me! But I have this pit in my stomach that he'll be traded and it'll be Rathbone time somewhere else.
-
That's fair to clarify I think WPG should be more interested in futures if trading Sheif. And I like Garland!
-
Player Name Yes! You're fighting the good fight brother!
-
I think WPG should be rejuvenating Garland isn't really what they need rn. Plus I really like Garland.
-
Scheifele has really killed his value with his uninterested play. I'm a bit of a closet WPG fan don't tell my friends. Somethings up w Sheif The potential is there but the spark isn't right now the way he's playing love might be strong wording.

I get your sentiment but also Brock held JB over a barrel to get that back loaded contract with the high QO that he hasn't lived up to. At the end of the day unless he's taking a significant pay cut MGMT's hands are tied. Best case scenario is JR finds a way to make a deal with Minni we take a lil cap back Greenway/Foligno/Kulikov? Brock takes a deep paycut to play at home. I feel for Brock I really do but signing him for 6m because you feel sorry for him is not the right reason.
-
So pumped for this kid. Love the way he plays can't wait to see him in Abby! Something tells me he and Klim are gonna be fire next year.

2022 Canucks end of season media availability
hammertime replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
My heart really goes out to Brock. This must be an incredibly difficult time for him. Kuzma is kind of a dick. I haven't been the most forgiving of Brock this year. I'm not about to recant now but I really do feel for him. Hopefully a situation can be worked out with Minni. -
Why does Myers have to go?
-
Thanks bud! My bad. I know better.

A Rutherford offseason (Proposal/Discussion)
hammertime replied to KKnight's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I'll take the bait..... I think Cuylle is a fantastic target. If there is a Miller deal to be made with the Rags he has to be part of it. Losing Gadjovich on waivers was stupid. Maybe something like.... Cuylle + Othmann + 2023 1st......??? I think Zub straight across for Brock and 3.5m cap savings is a solid hockey trade. Bergeron retires a Bruin don't be silly. Kuzmenko would be interesting. I'm going to be following that situation to see what happens. He and Pod have had chemistry in the past but I'm also tapering my expectations a bit. Kuz has put up the majority of his points on the PP and it's not as if the guys flanking him in KHL PPG% Gusev or Shipachyov are world beaters. If he's a 30-40pt 3rd liner I think that would be at the high end of reasonable expectation. Which is by all means fine and dandy but he will need to buy in to that role or he will be watching from the bleachers. We don't need Vey/Goldobin in the lineup. Accari sure why not could do worse in FA I suppose he's a decent 4c. I don't think an elaborate overhaul like you have outlined will be beneficial. Moving Brock is addition by subtraction. Say we land Kuz and Zub at that point I think we are starting to put round pegs in round holes. Bains I think will translate surprisingly well to the NHL. He plays hard nosed hockey with very high IQ playmaking. Brent Sutter has molded this kids game and he plays the right way I think he grinds 10-15 goals 30-40 pts Hog Miller Pod Pearson Pete Garland Bains Bo Kuzmenko Lammiko Accari? Highmore Lockwood Hughes Zub OEL Myers Rathbone Shenn Burr Dermott -
So he can't get mad he just get's sad? It's rough I feel for Brock really like the guy. Like I said I have no doubt he'll score 30. I cheered harder for the crosschecking penalty he took a couple games ago that resulted in an immediate goal against than any goal he's scored this season. Was the first time I have any memory of him letting the other team 'know he's there"
-
But why though asset mgmt?? Is it worth it? I can't watch Brock beer league it for another season I just cant. If we can get something great. If not at least if he walks we have 6m capspace to play Miller/Bo.
-
I think this is a really good post. However I think you missed the biggest pro/con. We can talk about foot speed we can talk about slumps we can talk about career average point pace comparable contracts bla bla etc till were blue in the face. I'm here to talk about the real problem with Brock....... Has anyone ever seen him get mad? You could stand right next to Brock and speed bag Demko. Brock might hug you. I see no emotion in his play no heart. He isn't battling for his ice or for his pucks and he isn't making life hard out there for the opponent. I have no doubt in my mind that he will be a 30 goal scorer and that's all well and good. My problem is that 20mins of Brock are 20 waaaaay too easy minutes for the other team. Where that leaves me is addition by subtraction. Our team has no room for Brock playing every game like it's an all star game. When he goes into the corner with Crosby he's trying to figure out dinner reservations for after the game. I have zero time left for Brock. We need to cut out the fat and get harder period.
-
Haha I just did the same friki'n thing 1 I'm not ready to trade Bo. There needs to be a substantial disconnect between him and the team to consider this. 2 I like it Laughton is a bit over paid but I can live with it.
-
Sure they can sit on him I guess. The reality I think is they will just bury his value further.
