I guess it's more just submitting to the fact that we are gonna suck next year too..... Doesn't really have the same ring to it. I mean that projected lineup is capped out and it ain't pretty. There won't be any takers around the league for Loui or Roussel and we need Beagle. I don't see any possible way to avoid this outcome so JB needs to act relatively quickly to recoup what little he can on the movable pieces before they are completely worthless. Pearsson, Virtanen, Gaudette, Sutter are quickly depreciating assets.
-
I think at this point Virtanen out of any value whatsoever. Best we can hope for is a project for project swap. or a Kassian Prust type exchange. If it is true Nashville is interested in Gaudette Luke Prokop is a guy I would target. Unless Gaudette can be converted to wing he's going to end up like Baertschi with nowhere he seems to fit. Youre probably right about Holtby. That being said the Canucks will need to procure another 1B goalie. Swapping Roussel for Whites 4.75m through 2026 seems like a step in the wrong direction even if you buy it out wouldn't it be better to just let Roussels contract expire next year?

They have tried the re tool re build on the fly and in the past I have advocated that approach. However I believe we are now at the tipping point. It's time for a new approach. Bo, Pete, Boeser, Hughes, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Demko, don't need overpaid has beens for mentorship. They are in the drivers seat now what they really need is a 2nd wave of young hungry kids nipping their heels. I for one am of the mind that 8x8 for Pete and Hughes would be far more desirable long term VS slightly cheaper bridge deals however that doesn't leave any meat on the bone at present to ice a competitive team in 2021. So let's just embrace that strip it down and re arm ourselves for 2022 and beyond. -Sutter 50% to FLA for a 3rd or whatever we can get wherever we can get it. -Gaudette to Nash for Luke Prokop and a 3rd. Luke is a prototypical shutdown D with size and great skating. Just what the doc ordered. -Virtanen to Cgy for the 18 yearold. Fresh start for both. Sam at least shows up for the playoffs. -Pearsson 50% to MTL unite him w Toffoli. In return Joni Ikonen and a the lower of their 2 2nds. I think if we are retianing 50% on Pearson he should return late 1st quality however most teams will be clutching those tightly it will be very hard to procure one. Ikonen could be found money he has very high upside but has been derailed by injury and passed by Poehling and others. I think since we won't be able to afford to re sign Pearsson most teams will not be offering fair value. Toffoli may do his bro a solid and twist Marc's arm in MTL the way Pearsson did JB's. Buuuut on the plus side Beagle, Roussel and Eriksson 12m influx the following season to super charge the team and finally boot the window wide open. EDIT: Thread name changed due to public outcry.

[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
hammertime replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Im not really for or against trading Gaudette. I just don't see him as a 3C and would like to see him converted to wing. That being said the wings are getting crowded with Hoglander cementing himself and Podkolzin comming. Hoglander Pete Boeser (Hoglander has been elite on the wall Millers bread n butter) Motte Bo Podkolzin (best way to shut down a top line is punish them on the scoreboard) Gaudette Miller Lind (Miller is our prototypical 3C we desperately need, Lind looking ready for the show) Roussel Beagle Zack (Status quo) Its not fancy but when you factor in 14m in raises for Pete and Hughes it is probably the best it's going to look next season. Until we get Loui off the books. -
Rewarding Alex Edler (Proposal)
hammertime replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think Tryamkin is very wishful thinking I hope you are right. I think trading Edler and then re signing him is also incredibly wishful. It has happened however it is incredibly rare and we both know any time the league has an opportunity to punish the Canucks they throw the book if there is any whiff of tampering you can bet we will be losing a 1st round pick. Loui shows no signs of doing us any favors. Would be nice for sure. Myers I mean sure maybe seattle takes him I don't see any reason to expose him other than shedding cap. if Seattle did take him and Tryamkin decides to stay in russia until he's UFA that would be Canuck luck. Buuuut Lets say all this did work out. All the stars aligned and everything came up roses. On paper we are still worse off than we currently are. Soo like it or not the rebuild is ongoing. All I am saying is if we are currently this bad brace yourself because we are going to get worse before we get better. Adding 2 2nd round picks is a start. However adding 14ish mill to our current cap situation (Pete Quinn)is going to make it pretty difficult to ice an NHL caliber team. I too remain hopeful for the future. While setting my expectations low enough for the present that there is a remote chance that they could be exceeded. I made the mistake of coming into this season hopeful to see a step forward which has been too disappointing for words. -
Rewarding Alex Edler (Proposal)
hammertime replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
One thing that has me genuinely concerned is if we are this bad now with Pete and Hughes on ELC's how bad will the Canucks be with them on new contracts. Canucks 2021 Hog Pete Boeser Motte Bo Pod Loui Miller MaK Rous Beagle Lind Myers Hughes Edler Schmidt Woo? Juolevi This lineup is flaming hot garbage and we would still be up against the cap. Remove Edler from it and I think it may qualify for the worst squad the Canucks have ever iced. -
I cant understand how so many posters have so much hate for luo . if this is really how so many nux fans feel about him that really only serves to prove how under appreciated he was by this fanbase. it's truly too bad. He was one of the very best we ever had. and we didnt deserve him. why would anyone want to play for us.
-
Suppose he did steal that game. You still don't win 0/0 well maybe in AV's heart. But in real life you dont. He already pitched 2 shutouts in the series but its his fault he didn't pitch 3? Na Virtanen made his bed he deserves no respect.
-
You know full well that was just the straw. Honestly that was just another terrible decision by one of the worst coaches of the Canucks in history. And what kind of career did Lack go on to have anyway? Luongo was consistently disrespected by the coach, media, and fans in this city. And yet people point the finger at him as the catalyst in how this saga played out. Luo remained a competitive tender right up until his retirement at age 40. He also returned Jaccob Markstrom so I guess we can blame him for that too.

Honestly I'm fine with leaving JB where he is he has assembled a great young core his trade history I'm fine with. We just need someone to prevent him from being his own undoing. the window is beginning to open. I am terrified of leaving him in charge of the Hughes Pettersson extensions and future FA signings.

Linden wasn't the right guy for the job I would have loved to keep him in the org a la Stanley Steamer but that just wasn't realistic. Realistically we very much need a Prez someone to handle contract negotiations, cap management the finer points that JB seems ham fisted with. I'm curious if Claude Lemieux could be a candidate. He is currently one of the top player agents. 3 cups knows what it takes to win. Just a random thought I'm not even really sure if it would be allowed.

Wow I couldn't disagree more. What a ridiculous take. Remind me how many goals the Canucks scored in game 7? If I remember correctly the Canucks won 2 games in that series 1-0 one to nothing sooo hanging the loss on Bobby is simply the stupidest narrative. The Canucks scored exactly 8 goals in 7 games and somehow it is Luongos fault we lost the series. If MG hadn't circumvented the cap Luongo would have been a 9m dollar goalie and we would have never made the finals and we would not be having this conversation at all. Give back the recapture money?? You realize it's a penalty right? He isn't being paid the money. It sucks he retired a Panther but he doesn't owe the Canucks org a damn thing he did what was best for him and his family as any normal human being would. I for one am pretty sick of butt hurt nux fans besmirching Canucks legends with their false narratives. You are the reason we can't have nice things.

[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
hammertime replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Luke Prokop + 3rd would get it done for me. https://thehockeywriters.com/2020-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-luke-prokop/ 6'4' 220lb shut down RHD who skates really well seems exactly what we need. A 3rd in this draft if it happens is a lotto ticket. Gaudette as much as I like him may end up like Sven Baertschi not good enough to play top 6 not stiff enough to play bottom 6 with no defined role he may find himself the outside looking in. Maybe he finds a role in Nashville Luke has a defined role if he pans out which I think it's pretty safe he will. He would be a stabilizing punishing bottom pair D and PK specialist. -

Would love to get Tolvanen 1 was pretty high on him in 2017. -
I mean if they postpone the draft that gives our scouts another season to be certain they are getting it right. So having a high pick would be great. If not I feel like a lot of teams are going to hit the jackpot later in the draft. Hopefully JB can amass some bulk late picks. I feel like Tanner at 50% should be worth a late 1st or a late 2nd +. Sutter at 50% you have to be able to recoup a 3rd or 4th Jake for Bennett or a 5/6 Defensive D I don't wanna give up on Gaudette yet though I think he needs to be converted to the wing. JT Miller probably doesn't need to baby sit Pete anymore IMO he could take his rightful place as our 3C

Few concerns on Power. Cam Robinson - Dobber Prospects - : "You can’t teach size and skating ability as Power has. But it’s all about the upside with the 18-year-old. If he breaks right, you’re looking at a high-end 1D. I just wonder about the decision-making. "Dylan Griffing - Dobber Prospects - Feb. 3rd: "Positively, he has a very strong shot and he is really effective in the neutral zone because of how much ice he covers. However, he cannot handle pressure at all. He makes poor judgments when the opposition closes him down.

as neat as Luke would be we kinda gotta get D who play defense.
