I wouldn't. Eventually the fans would turn on Linden after a few bad seasons, and his legacy would turn sour. If I was him I would join as something less in the spotlight, maybe like a scout or something.

LUONGO TRADED to Florida - Official Discussion Thread
hsedin33 replied to -SN-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Does anyone else think the Canucks will now be the ones who won't get a shut-out for two consecutive years? -

1-8-1 in the L10 Just awful. Vancouver needs to put a restraining order on MG to keep him away from this team. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
hsedin33 replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You know Luongo wanted to be here right? That is why he signed a massive contract. He wanted to play every game if he could and he never took a night off. He did put the team first by asking for a trade, he knew the team couldn't compete with 5.3 sitting on the bench every night. That is not Luongo putting his interests first, that is Luongo putting the team first. Even if its true Cory outplayed him, Lu still did the right thing and asked to be traded because he knew they would be better off with Cory in the long run. Hell, even Cory thought he was the number one goalie. Either way, Lu was only doing what was best for him and the organization. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers

Yah, because they traded away Cory than pretty much begged Luongo to stay. Aqualini personally flew down to Florida to tell Luongo in person, in his actual house, that he was their number one goalie and asked him to reconsider. Aqualini, MG, Torts, all told Luongo he would be their number one go-to guy. Where was the writing on the wall at this point? So two years after he asks for a trade and they trade away Cory and beg him to stay, they trade him. Face it, management botched this whole thing, they traded Cory and Lu, and now Lack will be thrown to the wolves in a rebuilding franchise, and we likely won't even get to use the 1.5m in cap we got because we will have to sign another low end goalie for us. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers

He wanted to leave because Cory Schneider took his job you inconsiderate dick. He was maturely stepping aside for the next younger goalie as MG and the fans likely wanted. He put the teams needs in front of his own. And you have the nerve to call him a quitter??? This team and its fanbase is the one who quit on Luongo, that is why he wanted out. Also Kesler isn't a quitter, you don't get to be a Selke winner by being a quitter. Don't you think it's funny how the two hardest working players on this team, two players who bled green and blue and were destined for the rafters, wanted out? They aren't quitters, they simply have enough respect for themselves to know when to leave a bad situation. And no one can blame them. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers

People have different hero's in different places for different reasons. For me, Luongo was a dedicated pro who withstood an incredible amount of negativity and controversy, especially from people with attitudes like yours, yet they flourished and got better while pouring their heart into this city. I won't bash the people you look up too, because it's not my place, so show some respect for others. -
I think of all the games we have left, this will be one we can win. Not that it matters anymore, I think they are playing to salvage a little pride at this point. Won't be able to watch this game, probably a good thing though because I'm not sure how much more disappointment I can endure right now. This team is in really sad shape, from the owner down.

Hello Florida? Me again, do you have any more players you don't want?

Any bets Kassian asks for a trade?

Team is officially rock bottom. Process complete.

Are the 'Its a process' jokes out of style now or is still safe to use them?

Just fyi we only got around 1.5 in cap space from trading Lu. The was another one of MG's classic trades where he traded a bona-fide NHL'er for 2 not so bona-fide players. Looking purely at statistcs, Shawn hasn't really done much more then Hansen. Though I agree with you that this team is no where ready to compete, espcially without a #1 goalie. I think I parallel the Luongo trade to letting Ehrhoff and Salo go, we haven't yet understood what we lost until we play half a season without them. To me trading Luongo signalled more a withdrawal from the playoff race, not the commitment to get in.

Lol, I'm no MG fan but wow, that article rips into him pretty hard, like, damn lol.

I think people who hate Lu will find ways to hate him regardless. In terms of being outplayed, I am going to disagree with the Canucks look on it. AV and Torts, both played who they think will give them the best chance at winning a certain game that night, in other words, their decision really wasn't based on anything solid. At what point does a goalies track record come into consideration? Luongo was given no credit for his larger body of work. The fact is, Luongo won a lot of games, he was the one guy who would always give the team a chance no matter who they played and how bad we played. how many times have we said the only thinkg that kept us in games was our goalie? The difference between Lack and Luongo: Luongo was at the point where he could back stop a losing team like ours and still come back to fight the next game even harder. Lack is going to get absolutely shelled (especially if we make the p-offs) and we better hope he is as mentally tough about losing as Luongo, he is really all we can count on now.
-
This team is failing because MG is asking too much from too little. He gutted this teams talent, never made a real attempt to improve this team or correct his mistakes and expected it to go farther then it did before. Now too much will be asked of Lack. Lack is going to do well in the future, but he is going to stumble and fall for a long time, especially with what is being asked of him to make the playoffs (and do something in the playoffs). I think I see where Torts 'lost hope' expression comes from now.

Luongo isn't to blame, he signed the contract because he thought he would be the #1 starter here and the go-to guy for this franchise, any other player in this league would have done the same. At no point did Luongo do wrong to this franchise, he signed a contract that MG offered, management made the decision to play Cory instead, Cory was made #1 and Lu conceited, they traded Cory and made Lu #1 again, they then traded Lu. Where did Lu go wrong exactly? Luongo likely would never have asked to be traded had management not created this controversy. Luongo did what was asked of him at all times. They told him to play, he played, they told him to sit, he sat, Lu is no back up goalie though, especially at 5.3m, so what else could he do but ask for a trade? Of all our options, I think had management just kept its promise about making Lu #1 after trading Cory, I think Lu would have been fine just staying here, but the whole starting Lack at the big Heritage classic game was really uncalled for, he could have played even if he was going to be traded. Lu bled green and blue, and all he wanted to do was play, and he was damn good at it, but we can't handle someone like that in this town, nope.
-
Hate to break this to you, but we didn't really get any cap space from it (2 contracts + lus 800k), we got maybe a 1.5m in capspace from trading him, which is not much, and we downgraded the team. Luongo brought way more to this team the Mathias will (no offense to him Im sure hes great). Also, MG was the one who signed that bad contract in the first place. At the end of the day, we are at a loss still. We are handicapped 800,000 every year for a long time now because of his mistake.
-
Has nothing to do with thick skin, its a dig at MG and Aquaman. They are his bosses, anything you say in public about your bosses, especially if it has a negative connotation, is bound to come out wrong.
-
I know it was likely made in jest, but I highly doubt upper management takes it as one. I don't really think they liked the Luongo joke either.

no freaking way he said that........ wowwww
