  1. In the freaky armchair gm department : thought Nylander looked really good for TO in last seasons playoff bubble. TO may be looking for a Josh Anderson style player. Virt is tantalizing and has yet to arrive, if he will ever arrive, we are all dreaming he can be that kind of player or just be some kind of nasty. Is there any value in that dream, maybe. Nylander had arrived and I agree with some who think he'd thrive in Van. Problem is Canucks need the space on their expiring contracts for next season too. Still need LE on permanent IR... so much dreaming going on. The team is playing better and, as per usual, Canucks are interesting. I mostly like that Benning seems a bit of a dreamer with balls.
  2. Finding a way to give back to the community he wants to be a part of is admirable. I bet we'll see some Huskie alumni NHL players as a result.
  3. He has been really good on the PK of late. With Motte out, #26 is in. Agree that the 3rd line 5 v 5 needs to be a lot better.
  4. We've seen this Markstrom before. Tired out and losing his cool. Not abiding Clark and shutting the door Rushing up ice, a goaltending fool.
  5. Wow! OJ. Drafted by the Canucks because he had all the right tools incl. an A + in hockey IQ. Now impressively showing it in game action.
  6. Statement game to the fans. Team should be rested. Time to prove that being tired and not having enough pracice time with new additions was the problem. Time to prove the team we saw last game is for real.
  7. Anybody see the play where Jake turns away from what would have been a massive hit on Lucic along the boards in the neutral zone. That was Jake being a pro. Lucic would have had to thank him for passing up on that hit. I disagree with the whole no hockey IQ thing with Jake. He made it look easy to play Green's system last night and stayed disciplined. His size and speed is so tantalizing, we want to see it better utilized by coaching and the player.
  8. TSN 1040 has been eliminated. a Vintage Post. !!! serious, for real and we'll be reminiscing about TEAM1040 and TSN1040 here?
  9. I'll have to buy out my phone, but I'm cancelling Bell because of this. #boycottbell
  10. Stoked about Kole Lind. Canucks likely have their 3C. Really like the #13 as well.
  11. Current team has too many free agent mercenaries on it. 3/5 of the roster could probably be waived to the AHL right now and no-one would pick them up. That's on these players and how much money management is paying them. Burrows, Kesler, Bieksa, the beating heart of the '11 team all grew up the AHL. Makes me think the current roster should be looking to the Comets to replace some of the current roster players. If the rumours are true about players whining about the current state of the team why not replace them with players that want to play fast and hard.
  12. Big game coming up on Friday, Kole Lind about to prove himself at the centre ice position. Will Kole Lind be the third line centre of the future for the Vancouver Canucks? Will the Canucks end up protecting Kole Lind in the expansion draft? I may be dreaming, I may just be hoping, but I'm thinking yes.
  13. I'm talking Tofolli and the cap not going up as Benning anticipated. A lot of people anticipated the cap going up. I didn't say Benning can't do any wrong. I dislike and have disliked pretty much all of Bennings UFA signings, but you have to consider the context of the signings, Benning anticipated more spending room, not less, and yeah, the Vancouver Canucks with their million plus fan base deserve an owner not worried about losing money in the pandemic.
  14. No way, when Benning trades for Tofolli he is anticipating the cap going up. Benning is still the guy that gets Tofolli for this team and likely wanted to sign him. His pro scouting looks pretty good considering how good Tofolli is looking for Montreal right now. I put this on ownership and it is * heartbreaking to Canucks fans.
  15. following a thread on Twitter : Aquilini said no to making money available to sign Tofolli by way of a buyout of Sutter and/or Baertschi. I do have the feeling that ownership cheaped out this offseason and the non signing of Tofolli wasn't Benning's call. I don't care about the current economics of the NHL, this team deserves a real billionaire owner who wants to win at any cost.
  16. When Canucks make the trade for Tofolli they are anticipating the cap going up. A few weeks later, everything changes. I agree that Benning gambled on the cap going up and he gambled wrong and many of the contracts Benning handed have come back to * this team. Still, if the cap goes up as he anticipated they likely find a way to keep their players and he gets to complete his plan and the Canucks are an improved team this year.
  17. It has been incredibly disheartening for Canucks fans to see Tofolli lighting the lamp against us. It seems likely to also be a real bummer playing against Tanev/Markstrom in Calgary. Right now it seems obvious that the team has not improved this year, but taken a step back. Toffoli + Tanev + Markstrom > Virtanen + Schmidt + Holtby + cost of a buyout/trade (money saved somewhere, somehow) Although much of what has happened to our team is the result of economic circumstances, some of it can be squarely dropped at the feet of management/ownership who appear to have made the wrong decisions about the current team and why there is so much debate about the Benning management group's ability to scout pro players.
  18. Mtl vs. Van is the tale of two teams differently affected by the pandemic. Where Van was anticipating more cap space and the opportunity to sign their players to continue to improve their team they were stopped dead in their tracks by the new economic reality of the NHL. Meanwhile, Mtl was well positioned to sign good players at lower dollars, to provide capable veterans to their emerging young core of players and greatly improve their team.
  19. yeah saw this first 5 minutes, playing with cement legs. they need to gameplan for when they are feeling like this. swap in three fresh players instead of one, mix up the style of play.
  20. i'd trade Pearson right now. any money they can send out the door, they should send it.
