I think the West plays a more physical brand of hockey and is the tougher conference to play in. Also, western teams are more used to the travel. Eastern media guys will be surprised how good the Canucks are and the quality of their depth players. Edmonton will start the year off hot, but fall back when the going gets tough. I remember the line of Baertschi Gaudette Miller looked good in preseason. Fans insisted Gaudette stay with the club and were shocked by the Baertschi demotion. Maybe Miller just makes everyone he plays with better.

This was likely my favorite moment in that whole Willie coached season, Tryamkin making it look easy to knock the tough guy team Ducks around.

Have heard this since he was playing junior, but I don't think Virtanen has a hockey IQ problem at all. Ever notice he never extends a shift? He has a pro level conditioning problem. This is fixable. Good to hear that he is working out with Myers. I'm glad the Canucks are taking another chance on him and I believe it'll pay off.

Benning is the most exciting GM this team has ever had by miles. He's just so ballsy and takes huge risks. Some work out, some don't and yet here we are with a pretty damn good hockey team. For this season he decided last year's D just wasn't good enough. Status quo GM brings back Tanev/Stetcher. Not GMJB, he adds Schmidt instead who could be the JT MIller of the d corp of this hockey team.

Canucks should run with the content they have and look to develop another two or three top assets out of there young players.

What if the Arbitration takes into account the new economic realities of the league and there are new contracts signed as comparables in the current climate in advance of his hearing?

The Oilers or Flames, a lot ot teams really, would have greatly improved rosters if they added both OEL and Markstrom. That has to be on Benning's mind right now working out this trade and signing.
